To me, there's nothing like wandering the aisles of bright shiny department stores and spending lots of money on things I don't really need. Sadly, there are no Targets or Walmarts here, so I had to find another place to relieve the spending itch. This ginormous Tesco is perfect for that. Aisles and aisles of goodies to peruse. Lately I've really been enjoying their selection of Easter candy. The store is mainly a grocery store, though they do have clothing, electronics, household items, etc. I drag my husband here once a week for grocery shopping and am always impressed with how low the prices are. This place is always a madhouse, which I guess can be expected at one of the largest Tesco stores in existence. But it sure does make me feel at home!

But when I first visited this store, I was very impressed. The store almost seems too big for the number of customers, there always seems to be plenty of room to get around. The selection of non-food products is extensive, although I still am very choosy about what I buy, & closly inspect the quality of items (particularly clothing). I get the impression that this store isn't as busy as it's size requires it to be, so there seems to be a higher percentage of discount/clearance lines. We've used this store for christmas shopping over the last two years, & I truly believe we've got excellent value for money.

They can be more expensive than the cheaper supermarkets, but all their food is really nice and made with good, proper ingredients. There is parking for two hours in the multi storey behind it and there is always parking here, plus you might have a bit of time to nip to the city if you need anything else! It is much smaller compared to Tesco's but it still has everything you need. There is less hustle and bustle, the queues aren't super long. I really like the atmosphere of this store; they sell good quality meat and very nice cakes, which I am always tempted to buy as a treat. Their online shopping is of a high standard when they arrive they have boxes one contains frozen food the other chilled ect they come into your home and practically pack everything away for you. If you get any items substituted on your shopping list you get a better version of what you ordered and your money back from the item you originally ordered. There is plenty of parking outside this store and it is free for 2 hours, so plenty of time to see what Waitrose has to offer.

Parking is always available and helpful staff. They also do special items, either seasonal or anything trending at the time. These are always of great quality I have found and brilliantly priced. They do electronics too, and these always come with a nice guarantee to provide more confidence when purchasing items. One star short due to the Covid19 measures which could be enforced more and made stricter. It gets far too busy here and I have seen many people not adhering to the social distancing. They have security, so why not monitor the customers distance more during these times? They have sanitising stations located at the front of the store before entering and trolley wipes etc. They do not have speciality items or stock everything, but what they do have is good.

If you go in not expecting to be able to do your weekly shop then you may be disappointed. Look for their flyers to see their current bargains. Quality of food and produce is generally quite high considering they are a cheap store. Do always compare prices as sometimes they are actually more expensive than competitors.

There is also a tesco's café outside and a costa nearby. There is plenty of free parking although I believe it is a crime hotspot so take all your valuables with you and do not leave them in sight. There are also a number of other shops nearby, including boots, M&S and Mothercare. This is a great place to do your week's shopping, but very big if you just wanted to pop in - make sure you know where what you want is!

Always clean and always busy but plenty of staff so no long wait at the check-out. Interesting architecture, a previous review suggested that it used to be a railway station - Nope! It was the Kayser Bondor until the 1980's when it was bought by Tesco. Kayser Bondor made ladies stockings - but switched to making parachutes during World War II. This Tesco's is a large Tesco Extra located on the old A505 just as you come into Baldock itself…read more The store front itself is not a modern one but it looks nicer because of it as its not just a glass front as most newer Tesco's are. As it is an Extra, it stocks everything from TV's to toothpaste, so everything you need is under one roof. The car park is large (and needs to be as it does get busy), and the store also contains a petrol garage.

They have a large selection of international and basic food stuffs, the store is always clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, and their produce is fresh. My favourite thing about the store, however, was their sale food. I've never seen such a regularly good selection in one place. If you live nearby I highly suggest coming at around 6 or 7 pm and looking in the meat cases. The butchers puts a lot of meat in there, and if you're willing to hunt through it a bit you can find some real steals. The veg and fruit had a bit less selection, but I could generally get a fair amount there as well.

The store is always well presented, the staff are more than happy to help (although the checkout staff can sometimes be a bit miserable!) and you can usually find a great range of products at a much cheaper price than you'd find elsewhere.
