The selection in most areas is fine, and I do like the fact they have Amazon Lockers here which is the one big plus compared to Sainsbury's across the way. The central location makes it easy to access from Bolton town centre, as it is a stone's throw away from the train station and nearby retail park, access as a pedestrian can be a little tricky as it means having to walk the whole length of the road outside, it's a shame they haven't made a cut-through which would be easy to do for any reputable construction company. It was a little hard to find staff members on the shop floor, perhaps this is due to ongoing social distancing guidelines due to COVID-19 as I have begun to notice this more often lately, even at other supermarkets. 3* - OK, worth an upgraded rating.

It is also just across the street from Sainsbury's as well as some other stores. So it is fairly central and hard to miss. The traffic in the car park is a bit of a nightmare... taxis waiting, cars not being able to get by because of the awkward shape of some parts of the car park. That is one of the reasons, I can't give the place five stars. However, there is a car park below the store that doesn't seem quite so busy and is great when it is pouring down outside. It is a paid car park... we missed that the first time, but fortunately it was such a quick trip we didn't have to worry about a ticket. Oops. There is a petrol station, which might also be causing some of the traffic problems. There is a covered area where you can wait for a taxi, but it doesn't seem to be large enough. There is an ATM as well. Another complaint I have, the large spinning doors to the store. One of the reasons for parking below the store... not having to put up with the spinning doors! There always seems to be someone who doesn't know how to use it and the whole thing just stops. Not to mention carts and this contraption are just not a good combination. They have a cafe and while it is cheap, I think I would prefer to pick up a snack at the deli or bakery at the back of the store. The store is always super busy and can make a quick shop a bit of a challenge. I do like their bakery and actually think they have some better looking (and tasting) dessert options than some of the other supermarkets in town. I also like their deli... really I like the part next door where they are baking pies, pasties, and sausage rolls. They always have fresh pasties and sausage rolls... sometimes they are still warm! Their pork and cranberry sausage rolls are my favourite! I think their produce area could use a bit of work as sometimes it looks a bit of a mess. I also tend to skip the frozen section. There are usually queues at the tills, but the staff are friendly. There are usually a number of self-checkout machines that are not working, so I usually skip the self-checkout here. Overall, there are some great parts of the store, but I wouldn't consider this for my normal, weekly shops.

Before Tesco arrived in Failsworth, I used to shop in Morrisons quite often. One day they decided to stop me from buying more than 6 of any one item, even though I had been doing for about a year or so. The different staff to whom I was used to dealing with was so different - they were rude and very unhelpful, one morning when I was told I couldn't buy their product, I pushed my trolley at them and walked out (without my pound I had put in the trolley). Bad customer service. It has been about 3 years since I have been back, and nothing has changed, with one exception - less customers. All the products were the same, in the same place with the same packaging. The store was the same - very old fashioned and dimly lit , And the staff are the same. Rude, bad mannered and don't seem to have been trained in keeping the customer happy. I wandered round the very very empty (customer wise) store I was feeling more and more depressed and just wanted to leave. I had just nipped in since I had visited a friend who lived near by, for some sauce for my noodles. I picked them up and headed for the till, paid and went to the Lotto till. The woman behind the counter was a little further up from me leaning on the counter chatting to a man. She looked over at me and leant back on the counter to carry on her conversation. I tapped on the floor with my foot and waited patiently. A few minutes later she wandered over. I handed her my winning scratch card and she looked at me, looked at the emblem on my jumper and looked at me again - so what if it was a pole dancer. She scanned my winning card and looked at me again. So i looked back. She took the £2 from the till and I asked for two more cards with the winnings. She looked at me (without smiling once) and asked "you are over 16 aren't you?" so I replied "yes, I am 24". I have always looked young and am always being ID-ed so always carry my driving license. She didn't ask me for it. Just tutted, walked over to the other till and then shouted "that'll be £2". Confused I said "what will", "the scratch cards", "no, use the winning £2". She had forgotten I had just given her a winning card and she had put the money in her hand and it was still there. She tried explaining to me the scratch cards would cost me £2. Anyway I explained her job to her and she put her hand out to give me the cards, tutted and looked away. Skanky woman. I will never be returning to this place. And I didn't win on the new scratch cards. That is her fault. She probably fixed it.

I've gotta say that the best description that fits my wife and myself is 'foodies on a budget' - so…read morewhile we do our usual weekly shop at Aldi (where you can get some seriously good stuff), we also hit Waitrose at least once a week to pick up other 'essential' ingredients that you probably wouldn't find in most run of the mill supermarkets. On this occasion we bought perfectly ripe papaya, sushi rice, sesame oil, hot sauce, Canadian bread flour and Cartmel sticky toffee pudding amongst other items - quite an eclectic list but all stuff we really needed in to cook with. The staff are always friendly here and go the extra mile in finding stuff in the back, you get free coffee if you're a Waitrose card holder and a free newspaper at the weekend if you spend more than £10 - £5 in the week (not a bad deal at all!) Overall an always pleasant shopping experience, we could just do with a bit more cash to really indulge ourselves here each visit :-)

Good selection of fruit too in case you fancy something sweet. Great layout of the shop with everything made easy to find. The only downside is their lack of gluten free/allergen options range. The self service check outs make it fast and easier to pay if you're in a rush and cash back optional too. Not too keen on the charities that sit on chairs right next to the tills!

Tesco Extra in Altrincham is a pretty large store, it is in the town centre, with a rival…read moresupermarket nearby, a poor branch of Sainsbury's which I actually had to pass to get here. The store is really large, especially for a town centre location, it has multiple bridges going into the store, I did initially get lost working my way in and somehow ended up going in through the employee entrance, the main entrance, however, seems to be through a sheltered car-park and then up a very steep travelator or a lift. The checkout and payment system seemed to be much easier to use than other stores, while they still have the handheld devices to scan as you shop (sadly they don't have a mobile app similar to Sainsbury's and ASDA), it seemed to be a newer interface on both the tills and the scanners, which made them quicker and easier to use - it looked better too, everything was clearer which I liked. The facilities in the store are good, there is also a Vision Express opticians as well as a Tesco Mobile Shop and Cafe. The staff around the store seemed friendly and happy to help, and they did have a good selection of products. I do find their booze area could have been managed better, as well as one aisle, they seemed to have different bottles on random corners, they could have been more together, sadly I couldn't find my favourite brand of rum, Dead Man's Fingers in stock. 4* - Good store overall, getting in and out the store could be easier, especially for pedestrians. The to-go food area could also be slightly more extensive for a store of its' size, and also didn't include a coffee machine.

Generally Tesco is quite cheap due to having loads of offers on like buy one get one free etc. I find the layout of this Tesco a little confusing though, it's not the Tesco I use all the time, so I guess this is probably why! Staff seem friendly enough, and there's loads of checkouts so queues aren't too bad, unless it's Christmas eve!

They…read moremay still be located in a shopping centre with quite a few other shops and restaurants such as A Card Factory, Greggs and Subway but this ASDA store does not have a Cafe itself making it a nightmare to do all your things in one place, or find somewhere that avoids cross contamination for Coeliacs like me. I may have said for the Chadderton branch, yes this is okay but the Harpurhey branch does not have it, that is right they do have a nice range of products here but still this isn't a great store. I couldn't even get a bottled water, a member of staff told me they did not have any and for me to go over the road. I am sure a big store like ASDA would have bottled water, the staff could also of been more polite in telling me this or checked for me. It is unlucky to have 1 bad incident with a member of staff but another one in 2 constitutive visits is really disappointing. One thing I do not like about ASDA, Despite being cheaper than Tesco for most things is that they do not have a loyalty scheme like Tesco's Clubcard or The Nectar Card of Sainsburys. This ASDA Does have a large clothes section if you need to look for clothes and get your groceries, you can do both of these in the same place. This ASDA store has a nice range of Gluten Free sausage and even had some on sample, they have The Black Farmer, Heck, Butchers Selection and their own Extra Special range (Avaliable in quite a few interesting flavours!) This ASDA does also have a DVD section and follow the traditional ASDA look for most items such as Milk and Starbucks Frappucinio Beverages at the fridge on the back wall near the DVD and Clothes sections, which strech to the back of the store. This ASDA has a partnership with Cresta Cars, if you use the freephone here you can get a token which gives you 75p off your journey and they do come in a few minutes. Due to the range of some products, I can't give this ASDA one star but I really don't think it deserves more than two. This store has no coffee machine either, a few local ASDA stores do but it seems the store that is desperate for one (no cafe£, doesn't have one.
