Masseys has been in the Swadlincote area for as long as I can remember, with a shop in the town…read morecentre, selling just about anything you can think of and a larger store selling big pieces of machinery like mowers, strimmers just out of town. They have now both been amalgamated into a larger superstore just north of Swadlincote Ski Centre. An impressive looking building with a large glass fronted façade, and a sizeable gated car park, this place is a DIY enthusiast and small business person's dream location! I wouldn't class myself as falling into either of those categories, but you can pretty much get anything for the home and garden from here, and the staff actually know what they're talking about, offering salient advice on request. On entry, there are the largest ride-on mowers I have ever seen, costing nearly as much as my car! The lower floor is packed with a fantastic range of paint, wallpaper, bathroom and kitchen fittings, as well as workwear, and a sizeable cookware area in the corner, that would outdo many stand-alone kitchenware shops. To the back of the ground floor is an area for fencing and other outdoor products for your garden. Up the sweeping stairs to the second floor is largely dedicated to the garden too, with a fantastic range of mowers, strimmers, garden tools, barbecues etc. This is also the location of the Massey's café, which has a good range of hot and cold food, made to order, as well as home-made cakes and scones, the cheese scones being particularly fine. A good range of hot and cold drinks too, but be warned, the coffee is exceptionally strong! I like my coffee, but this is like rocket fuel! All in all a great store, but it is a bit of walk from the town centre, if you don't drive.

I rang June in May to ask her for help with my friend's wedding dress…read more Unfortunately due to circumstances, my friend, Lizzie, had to move her wedding to her fiancé forward by over a year and, although she had a dress, it needed quite a few nips and tucks and alterations making. June's number was given to me by a few people telling me how amazing she was and they were right. June is so understanding and understood the time constraints we were facing. She was able to alter the dress in under 3 weeks and was so friendly and lovely throughout the whole process and made sure that Lizzie was comfortable the whole way through. 6 days before the wedding, Lizzie tried her dress on again and found out that it was too tight to go fully up (the medication she is on has made her quite bloated). Ringing June in a panic, I asked if she could think of anything. Within the hour, she had reassured me and the bride and made a beautiful bow to cover any gaps in the dress (the material her dress was made from meant we couldn't just 'let it out'). She really did go above and beyond and ensured that Lizzie both looked stunning on her wedding day and felt comfortable! If you are looking for someone who is professional and friendly and does a heck of a good job, you must call June! All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you xxx
