Sue Hauenstein, daughter of the late J.H. Quentin Beisel, and her husband continue her father's legacy of growing and selling annuals. Excellent selection of many summer favorites. It seems many customers call ahead every year to get their selection. This business doesn't have either a website or a Facebook page, strictly word of mouth, offering excellent locally grown annuals for reasonable prices and quality.

In this instance, we were on the hunt for apple cider donuts. We found the donuts (delicious!) and a whole lot more. True to the name, Mt Airy is a working orchard and farm with a very impressive farm store operation. On this fall day, there was a dizzying selection of produce, baked goods, frozen prepared foods (pies and more), gourds, pumpkins, apples, and much more. There are apparently pick your own opportunities as well. Parking is plentiful and Mt Airy is well-staffed with a very friendly team of folks. The farm store is immaculate. Note that Mt Airy is in a very rural area off winding, narrow roads. Pay attention to your GPS and drive carefully. Highly recommend this York County gem.

The Plant Witch first popped up on my social media feed shortly after it opened, and I immediately…read moreadded it to my "visit someday" list for whenever I happened to be in the area. As luck would have it, I was nearby for the City of Harrisburg's Ice & Fire Festival and realized the shop was only a short walk from the main festivities. I took that as a sign from the universe that I should probably stop in...and see about bringing home at least one new houseplant. #yolo I arrived around 1pm on a Saturday and found the shop well stocked, with the front door open and a welcoming sign on the sidewalk letting folks know the shop was open. Always a good sign when you're plant shopping. The moment I stepped inside, I loved the vibe. Crystals. Beautiful houseplants. Eclectic décor. Displays that were clearly mindfully curated instead of just being set up randomly. The shop felt welcoming, creative, and thoughtfully put together. I spent a good amount of time browsing...and browsing...and browsing some more. There were a lot of plants I wanted to bring home with me, but I also had to remind myself that my house only has so much room for plants. The prices felt reasonable, the plants looked incredibly healthy, and everything appeared to be very well cared for. The shop itself was bright, clean, and the owner was super pleasant. I had my eye on a Black ZZ plant for my collection, but I specifically wanted a smaller one so I could have the satisfaction of growing it from a baby plant into something bigger. There were a few Black ZZ plants in the shop, but they were all larger plants, which wasn't quite what I was looking for. I figured it was worth asking if there might be any smaller ones that I had missed. The owner said she didn't have any smaller ones available, but then immediately offered to split one of the larger plants and sell me a smaller portion on the spot. Talk about incredible customer service! She pulled out her supplies and did a mini repotting demonstration right there in the shop for me and a few other customers who happened to be there. It was honestly really cool watching my little plant baby be "born" into its own pot so I could take it home with me. I really appreciated her willingness to help me get exactly what I was looking for, and I was more than happy to support her small business in return. I couldn't be happier to check another wish-list plant off my list thanks to The Plant Witch. My houseplant collection appears to be entering a rapid growth phase...and I'm not entirely sure I'm in control anymore. I'll definitely be stopping back the next time I'm in the area. This shop has officially earned a spot on my regular rotation of places to visit when I'm in the mood to buy plants... which, if I'm being honest, is happening more and more often these days.

They all did incredibly well. Really delicious tomatoes - Lyda Ukraine, I think? - and the peppers were surprisingly pretty. The flowering plants all came back again this spring and are looking great. Highly recommend this nursery for plants suited to growing in the central Pennsylvania area. And at excellent prices, too. Definitely headed back this spring to pick up some more tomatoes and maybe bleeding hearts.

Was overly impressed with their collection. They also have basalt rock pieces, some pretty pots and planters. Everything I saw was so interesting and unique. They also have bonsai classed of various levels. Met the owner and he gave me a tour of his place. His specialization was so very evident in his collection.
