Very tasty sauces and lovely spices. But all the chicken was overcooked and very dry. Indian restaurants tend to do this. I think they cook large amounts and don't cook each meal from fresh. We were very surprised that the front of house person asked if we would like chips ? That's not really what we were expecting from an authentic Indian curry house. They were very busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves enormously. If they could just sort out the chicken I think this could be a seriously above average restaurant. All the chefs specials just had names. So you had no idea how why or in what way they were special ! Very often Indian restaurants just do the Bhuna, Daal. Masala. Madras, Jalfrezi, Korma boring list of almost indistinguishable varieties and people get a little scared of the Vindaloo.
The Ashiana menu was pretty good but they could give a bit more detail. I always love a Massaman from my favourite Thai restaurants. I was surprised to see a Massaman here, It Wasn't classic Masssaman which should centre around a peanut, cashew, cinnamon and cumin but it was wonderfully tasty with a good punchy spicy sauce, The head of house came round regularly to ask if everything was fine. I didn't mention the dry chicken. I'm a nice guy. We English never complain. Go to this restaurant .....and just nudge them about the chicken. read more
