The interior is modern, light and airy, although the photographs on the wall are, from a…read morephotographer's perspective, unremittingly awful. The food here varies, sometimes it's almost OK, sometimes it's a ghee stew. If you are in medical need of a curry when you exit Sevenoaks station, then this is the place, otherwise, you can do better.

A bit of a pickle. Average for food and unacceptable for the rest …read more I was after a good Indian food one evening . Having the magic TasteCard with me I have gone through a list of places to spot the best in the area (accepting the TasteCard). Service seemed good and attentive to start with. Then, it took a nose dive, when the bill discount was due (as per TasteCard promise). I did mention the "card" to the welcoming waiter but the serving one knew nothing about it - at the time the ratio of waiting staff to the diners was 2:1 at least!(( The whole situation made me feel like I was trying to rob them of their money. I dread to think what my companion thought of it all! Embarrassment springs to mind. The bill was corrected promptly, but instead of a discount I was rather given a..."good will gesture" and an incorrect guidance, that the deal applied to main courses only. Thanks Raj Baj!! Probably in your place, that is. Without prejudice one part of the food was as expected. The other part - main course of Monk fish - overcooked, dry and flavourless. I wrote a complaint email to the restaurant about my poor dining experience. A week later I'm yet to receive a reply... Perhaps a good customer service refreshment course and a "deal with the problem" training for the management would not come a miss? ArtPe

The Pathia is to die for! Food taste and quality is always consistently good. The place is clean, friendly, has comfortable seating and has undergone some decor changes to improve the overall ambiance as it was a little stark. Why, you ask, if it's so good doesn't it have more customers? I think that there were a number of issues, most of which have been addressed but there are still a few niggles. There were problems with the speed of service if they were unexpectedly busy (2 hours on one occasion) and the lack of anything but basic decor. The music system used to jump tracks every time someone went into the kitchen and some of the waiters spoke little English. All of these have been resolved but the restaurant still lacks a little of the personal touch. You never get offered a free tipple on the house or coffee if you've spent a lot or are a frequent visitor and the obligatory hot towel is now a naff moist hygienically sealed paper tissue yuck! Don't let any of this put you off as the food more than makes up for any shortcomings and you definitely won't be disappointed. Part of me doesn't want the world to find out how good this place is as it means I won't be able to turn up and get a table without booking!

I have heard a few people describe this place as the best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

You can never have enough good quality Indian restaurants (so says I), without doubt Shahi Tandoori…read moredeserves to be added to that category. It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).
