Now I'm not a religious person; but I am college educated, healthily skeptical, and was previously employed as a digital liar. So I would if I could have poked holes in Kelly's opening salvo as she described, in impressive detail, the twin reasons that inspired me to make an appointment. But, dear Yelpers, I could not. Because she was able to layer them with such nuance and specificity that it seems unlikely she could have done it with any but natural ability. An example: When we had gotten far enough that I felt comfortable divulging some basic facts (that I was a graduate-level design student), she correctly identified the topic of my thesis. For you inquiring minds, here's how that worked: When I told her that my area of study was design, she immediately began contextualizing the nature of my work, describing my thought process, which was accurate. She then used a very specific metaphor (i.e. "it's almost like..."). Except that it was not "almost like"; it was, indeed, the exact topical framework I had chosen for my thesis the week before. Until Kelly, only my professor and my mentor had been aware of it. Fairly, I cannot guarantee that anyone else will have this experience. I chose Kelly very deliberately based on the feeling that I would know immediately what was up and went in with specific intentions to check against. Kelly very quickly passed my test (in my defense, aren't we all being tested?) and we wound up having an excellent and encouraging session, for which I am now grateful.
