However, Vyla had been struggling since the beginning of her 3rd grade year, when COVID first hit. Her studies took a nosedive and we had been playing catch-up since. Although being in school was incredibly valuable, she continued to fall behind. As Vyla entered the 5th grade, we were determined to get her caught up as quickly as possible. We considered a few other services, which all looked great, but there was something very warm and positive about Marsha when we discussed Vyla and our determination to get her back to grade level. Marsha reviewed Vyla's background, listened to all of our concerns, reviewed an academic evaluation we had Vyla complete, and discussed an education plan moving forward .When Vyla began the 5th grade, we then reevaluated what Vyla should be doing, based on what was going on in her class. Marsha focused on Vyla's gaps, and with each session, Vyla became more confident, and more focused! When we started, Vyla was hesitate, as Marsha was "new" and she was not sure if she would work well due to having to complete her schoolwork; she was worried about being over-worked. But with each new session, Marsha showed Vyla that studies could be fun! Marsha challenged her with quiz's, facts, flash cards, and Vyla could feel the improvement in her studies. Mathnasium Encino is pretty top notch…read more So originally, I had my 6 year old working to improve comprehension with word problems that were read on paper in addition to word problems that were spoken directly to her as well as building numerical fluency and speed math. We enrolled only for a month because of time conflicts for months ahead. The total was $369 for one month. Evan was the one who basically walked us through the entire program and he is a fantastic director because he provided thorough explanations about my daughter's progress in addition to the ways in which the instructors would tailor and strategize her math curriculum. I can vouch for the effectiveness of their techniques and this because her progress showed in school. The techniques that Mathnasium taught her were very meaningful to my daughter- especially when her teacher administered tests to the class. The tutors are very friendly- my daughter became very close with Jackie and Moises. They mentored her, walked her through her homework, and taught her new concepts each day we went to Mathnasium. Cons- This place is pricey BUT it's a wonderful investment for your child. - It opens at 3:00 pm which is kind of a downside for us because it would be nice to hop in a bit earlier. - You need to invest at least a couple or more months to see considerable progress. Even though my daughter was here for only one month, I can tell that if we stayed longer, she would be equipped with more skills and she would have a better edge in learning math. So be prepared to schedule time in for Mathnasium lessons.
