I later found out that this facility was waaaay cleaner than the SF Zoo or Fenton's in Vacaville.

The trails were clean and scenic, with towering trees that made us feel like we were in Tahoe. We spotted some lifelike animal statues along the way and enjoyed a relaxing 2-mile loop past playgrounds and open fields. The fresh air and serene surroundings made it perfect for biking or just clearing your mind. Highly recommend this spot for a refreshing outdoor escape!

Walked in from Willow campground, settled in, and immediately felt that "why haven't we done this before" feeling. After dinner we hiked through Cottonwood campground and found a trail out the backside with a panoramic view that made the whole trip. The sunsets here are next level. Saturday's weather was perfect; we fished, caught and released a few nice ones, and just relaxed. The day-use and launch area was recently repaved and is in great shape. Now, the honest stuff: Friday was extremely windy (upside...zero mosquitos). The mosquitos showed up Saturday night, which is just nature doing its thing. The bigger nuisances were neighbor-related: a big group of kids with flashlights running around until 3am Night 1, and someone blasting bass while cruising the campground multiple times Night 2. Not the campground's fault, just worth knowing if you're a light sleeper or in a tent. Bathrooms: one was consistently clean, one was hit or miss. Toilet paper ran out and the exterior water spigot wasn't functional. Landscaping could use attention. Camp hosts were around but hands-off, no complaints, just not super visible. Bottom line: beautiful location, great fishing, gorgeous views and sunsets. The infrastructure needs a little TLC but nothing that would stop us from coming back. We'll be back for sure.

Come visit Locke, a tiny little town within the city of Walnut Grove in the delta. There's lots of history here and the town is charming, been coming here all my life. It's the only town in America built by Chinese for Chinese. A great spot to stop while taking a leisurely drive through Californias Delta. If your hungry have a bite to eat around the corner at Locke Garden Restaurant or a drink at Al The Wops. There's even an old 1 room schoolhouse.

Have been there a few weeks during the week.And weekend without a problem, but this morning, everybody who launched their boat out approximately fifteen to twenty boats got tickets. They decided to open up the payment both without announcement. Very upset and disappointed with the city or county, who manages this very poor customer service.

February 2, 2020 Sunday…read more Accessible by Docent led tours only. To protect the sacred 10,000 year old Native American site and the pictographs. Warnings !!! Don't even try to go there on your own cuz there's a gatekeeper who is an ex special force military guy with night vision and all kinds of "stuff" to prevent people from going into the preserve and vandalizing this place. He lives on the property up on the hills not too far from the gated entrance . (The preserve is fenced in with locked gates ) We met up and got on the docent led bus at the Round Valley Regional Park parking lot. There were 18 of us , a naturalist named Kevin who led the tour and two interpretive student aids. Kevin was a great guide because he was energetic, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the environment. I could tell he is very passionate and loves nature and the wildlife . We got to see some fairy shrimps in the vernal pools which are endangered species . We also got to see a golden eagle, red tailed hawks, a kestrel, frogs. And of course the highlight for me was the cave art , pictographs. Awwwww it was so awesome to see pictographs inside the wind caves. Could be as old as 10,000 years old. IT was hella windy up there , well which is why there are wIndmills up there. Super super windy and cold. Bundle up if you are signed up on the tour to go up there. It was so awesome to see everything up there and gained new knowledge on biodiversity. Well worth the money. The tour was $40 a person but subject to change so check their website at East Bay Regional Park.

I went on a guided tour to see Vasco Caves. It's part of the East Bay Regional Parks and the only…read moreway to see them is to Sign Up and go on a guided tour. For Alameda County residents it's $30 per person, others pay a bit more. It's about 45 min away from San Leandro to Round Valley Regional Preserve in Brentwood. FREE parking there, 2 pit toilets. Leader Eddie was our guide w/ an assistant. They had a van that the assistant drove, while Eddie rode w/ the 20 paid ppl on the tour in a small shuttle. Bathrooms available at the parking lot at Vasco Caves, some picnic tables too. Hike was from 9am-2pm, there were lots of breaks and stories. We had a 20 min lunch stop. We hiked about 2.25 miles total, a few steep areas, but not hard. Saw some birds, lizards, tadpoles, sheep. Didn't see the fairyshrimp or tiger salamander - bummer. Caves are more like wind caves and not something you can go into. There was a very faint rock art w/ some old stuff & new stuff (graffiti). I'll have to go back maybe in a few years: Dec-March. Love the fishing pier and backing into the Sacramento River that's a plus. Such a relaxed vibe. No community restroom or showers though. Giving this place a 3.5 for that simple fact.
