I used ASL asbestos for an asbestos survey prior to purchasing a property. In short, I would not recommend them and nor would I ever use them again.
I called 5 asbestos companies for quotes and based on the prices, I chose ASL asbestos.
Shaun, one of the owners of the company gave me a quote over the phone and also assured me that they would be able to carry out the survey the same week, which was essential for me as otherwise it would have delayed the exchange on the house.
After the initial quote I called them about 3 times a day for 3 days before they finally sent me a formal quote. This quote stated 4 times the originally quoted amount- when I queried it, a day later they came back with a revised quote for the originally agreed amount. This was already 4 days into the week when they should have carried out the survey. Finally, after another few phone calls, they assured me that they would do the survey on the Saturday and would pick up the keys fro the estate agent. This never happened and they didn't call me to let me know- I only got to know it from the estate agent. I called Shaun again on Monday to enquire about this- he was not aware of this and once he had talked to the asbestos surveyors he assured me that the keys would be picked up on Monday and the survey would be carried out the same day. To cut a long story a bit shorter, they picked up the keys at 5pm on Monday and even though they agreed with the estate agent that they would return the keys the same day, they never did- instead after a lot of phone calls they sent the keys back in the post 3 days later.
They didn't issue the survey report for another week even though I kept calling them- Shaun was very nice over the phone promising everything, which either never materialized or it happened with a significant delay.
When I raised all the issues, the director for the finance department was very rude, kept talking over me and was not apologetic at all.
A few days later the estate agent went over to the property and saw that the asbestos surveyors left damage all over the property. They left wholes in the ceiling, ripped up the wooden flooring which they taped back with black tape. He took photos, which I sent to ASL asbestos- their response was that the damage is part of the survey and they are not responsible for it- we should have known it would happen.
Communication, honesty and reliability are not a strong point of ASL asbestos and I will definitely not be using them ever again. read more
