I am in fact living in the Pittsburgh area and I am talking about Aspen Dental in West Mifflin on Clariton Blvd. I can't figure out how to change my location on my Yelp profile I would give negative stars if I could. Came for an emergency filling. Was told I needed a crown. The woman at the check out told me that all the work I needed would be about $1900 and was told that there were options to finance. (I have dental insurance so with?) Was told me dental insurance had $1500 available after previous claims for that year. Told the woman that I could only do the work for the tooth that I originally came in for and that I would think about it. She made a audible "tick" sound. I felt like I left a used car lot and not a dentist! I went home and called my dental insurance provider. I have unlimited preventative care and $2000, of which NONE WAS USED! So what scam were they trying to pull on me? I came home after going to a different dentist, who gave me novocaine, drilled my tooth, and gave me a filling totaling $56. I recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to any dental work done here or even just steering clear completely. read more

Have not been to this office in over a year now, receive a bill from a YEAR ago talking about my husband owes x amount of money, but was told A YEAR AGO that he owes nothing and is all good. Get it together and stop trying to rob people!!!! Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! Then when calling to get some kind of clarity on what the hell is going on I GET HUNG UP ON!!! After traveling through 45 minutes of backed up traffic on Clairton Rd and communicating with the office the entire time, I arrived 3 minutes late for my cleaning appointment. I was made to reschedule because I was late. I was never informed that I would need to reschedule (as I was in communication with the office staff while in route). There is nothing posted regarding time/rescheduling on the website or in the waiting area. I waited 10 minutes to be seen for my first appointment at Aspen. I will never go back to Aspen Dental and I will tell all of my friends and family to find another dental office. They are unprofessional and do not know how to accommodate patients' needs. Went to Aspen in West Mifflin, PA for a tooth abscess under a bridge that I'd had in place for 40y. I wanted the tooth removed, plain and simple. Dentist did Xrays and said that one of the teeth holding the bridge in place needed a root canal and to see an endodontist because the bridge was fine. Ok, fine he talked me into it. I went to the endodontist for the root canal, and they took xrays too. Guess what? The tooth is cracked so it needs removed, like I wanted in the first place. The capper? I overheard the Aspen Dentist say as I was leaving that he 'didn't do' molars. So my take is that he sent me to an endodontist because he didn't want to deal with removing my molar because he was a hack and couldn't handle it. Stay far far away from these guys. read more

This place is like the Burger King of dentists. The only "perk" of coming here is the individual televisions for each patient. I asked for my television to be turned off during my treatment and my "doctor" got a little upset because clearly they were watching the television during my treatment. This place is seriously the worst. Do yourself a favor and avoid this joke of an establishment at all costs. read more

I've gone to two locations and still don't recommend it. Aspen is a dental chain and doesn't offer the service of a private practice. If you want to see the same dentist, you have to request them and follow them to other locations. My two biggest issues are that they always find more problems you are never aware of. They make a treatment plan, and unless YOU closely follow it, they try to change and extend it. If you want your teeth cleaned, you have to keep telling them. The big excuse is that the hygienist isn't in. The second issue is when you're finished and you assume you're paying your balance in full, you receive a bill with a balance even though you paid your balance to zero. This is because they refuse to accept the insurance allowance like almost all other providers do and bill you for the difference, even though they told you, you were paid in full. I've had friends complain of the same thing. I now refuse to pay these "balances" and toss them in the trash. Screw my credit rating, it's been worse. read more

Tried to scare into some type of deep cleaning they apparently they tell everyone they need and a bunch of fillings. Did not get my free cleaning covered by insurance. Also hurt and cut me with the X-rays they claimed I needed because the pieces they put in my mouth where huge. They actually spayed my mouth with numbing cream. My boyfriend used to work in insurance and said they've received many complaints about them. My mouth still is in pain from this place. They are a scam corporation. Look up reviews online about them. They tried scaring me into 1400 dollars on top of my insurance. I will tell everyone I know about this place.. never got my free cleaning that I'm supposed to get with my insurance from employer. Also they wanted to sell me their fancy oral b toothbrush that I already own that they said would keep me from having these procedures. read more

Absolutely will not be back. First red flag is that the front desk guy asked me to write my Social Security Number on a Post-It note. I asked if he wanted to see my virtual Met Life card or for me to tell him the policy number, he said no just write your social here. I was so bewildered by the request that I complied, but, in hindsight, there's no way this is in line with whatever HIPPA and customer data privacy policies they have in place. I'd like to think that he shredded it when he was done, but, there was also a giant pile of used post-it's on the desk next to him, so it's probably just in there. I definitely should not have written it like that, instead of on a form or something more official. Then I get my X-rays and initial exam. I'm told that I need to come back for my teeth cleaning, which takes me by surprise since any other dentist I've ever been to does a teeth cleaning for new patients during the first visit, but then, to my greater surprise, I'm told that it's going to be $300, even with insurance, for the teeth cleaning since it includes de-scaling. I've never been quoted so much for a teeth cleaning in my life. All in all I'm told it's gonna be $700 after insurance for everything I need, and 3 more total visits. Seems pretty extreme for a patient who's experiencing zero pain, zero symptoms, just trying to be proactive about my preventative health appointments. I was also told i would have to pay up front before I could even schedule appts, another surprise, so i declined service and left. Upon getting home and reading my quote more carefully, I see a line item for $135 for a toothbrush! I can't believe the medical coder didn't share this fact and line item with me when i expressed surprise about the cost for service. Shame on all of you for sneaking in a line item which is so expensive for something that is 1000% unnecessary, as I can purchase it for way cheaper at cvs, target, Amazon, etc. All in all a pretty gross and disappointing experience and I will not return. I think I'll try the Pitt dental school as they seem to be first and foremost focused on patient and student care, not just hungry for money like Aspen. In summary, please shred my social security number, cause you won't be needing it again. read more

Less than a week before we were to move back to Pittsburgh my husband broke his dentures for the 5 time in less than 5 years and we decided to just get new ones because I didn't have time to take them to the doctor in South Carolina who made them, and obviously did a horrible job. I called Aspen Dental from South Carolina, explained the situation to them and scheduled an appointment for the Friday after we arrived. Once we got to Pittsburgh, I discovered my 81 year old father (who is blind and has dementia) was in dire need of new dentures also, so I called and schedule him an appointment also. For the next two weeks I was in their office every day, one day for my husband the next for my father as they both went through the steps of getting new dentures. The staff was absolutely amazing, they understood the special needs of helping with my father (and my 78 year old mother on oxygen that came along for each appointment) and helped me keep straight who was coming on what day for what procedure. I can not say enough about how wonderful everyone in this office is. They were very attentive, compassionate, friendly, and never did we have to wait for anything, you're in you're out! They are my new dental choice! read more

I have been back and forth with Aspen dental, pleasant hills location for 5 months. I was overcharged, big time. I sent them everything they wanted as proof of the overcharge. I was even told by a billing person,that he sees some overcharges, but he was waiting for more paperwork from insurance. needless to say, he doesnt work there anymore. so, explained to new billing person. I sent everything she wanted. It has been over 3 weeks and cannot get a call back..They always want money upfront before they even know what is actually owed. BTW, they said that they do not have to go by negotiated prices .anyone ever hear of that? read more

It is not like an fashion family dentist. They are friendly enough, but it is very much a counter sale dentist My dental tech did not really seem to know what she was doing. I was getting a crown. She was having a terrible time getting the mold to fit and to fit the crown. Probably okay for cleaning but I probably will not go back for much else. read more

It's not dentistry, it's hard sell corporate america. Instead of an x-ray, cleaning/polishing appointment, they break it into three appointments. Then, they hard sell products you don't need by way of fear tactics. If you balk, you are told you should probably go elsewhere if you're not willing to listen to their dentist. Their dentist, in my case, was evidently fresh out of dental school with NO EXPERIENCE, pushing 25 at most. Recently relocated and having great teeth, I went in for a cleaning. My last two dentists would rave about my teeth and oral hygiene. Aspen Dental tells me a year after a shining review that I have bone deteriorating and that I also need a $300 "mouth rinse". I checked with a best friend's wife, a dental hygienist, who tells me that's Corporate Dental practices and that they're all about selling product with no regard to the actual condition of the patient. In short, they want your money, folks. They could care less about your teeth. read more

This place is far, far more concerned with trying to get more money out of your pocket than they are with doing any actual dentistry. I have insurance and went in for a cleaning. what I got instead was everyone, including the receptionist, trying to sell me fluoride treatments, cancer screenings, and other items my insurance would not pay for. I politely declined and said that I would only be accepting treatments my insurance covered. Apparently the hygienist did not get that message, because instead of doing the cleaning I was scheduled for she insisted on trying to sell me a deep cleaning, which I already had a couple years ago. Not only that, but the quote for this service was outrageous and far above what I had paid when I last had it done (by around a thousand dollars!!!). I just got up and walked out. Please do yourself a favor and go to a real dentist office. You will surely regret visiting Aspen Dental, especially after you get the bill. read more

My appointment was over a year ago, and I'm still fighting with the awful place. They overcharged me for a procedure, scared me into getting a deep cleaning, and I bought a 130 dollar toothbrush like a fool because of them. Still trying to get the almost 300 they owe me back, because the line of credit is still making me pay off the balance plus interest. They ensured me everything was taken care of but it wasn't. I've had emergency appointments canceled because of their dentists had other things to deal with, eventually sent me to the Brentwood location instead (only a little better than Pleasant Hills). They are crooks, won't ever go back. Save yourself money and the convenience by just finding a REAL local dentistry instead of waiting for emergencies to happen. The temporary tooth they gave me didn't even fit right either, and they refused to do anything about it...another waste of hundreds of dollars!! read more

I was really disappointed with Aspen. My initial checkup was ok, however, after reviewing the results with me they did not give me any options except the most costly, and when I met with the "financial dept." they actually wanted me to pay for several services IN ADVANCE! I had previously explained I was doing the work from highest priority down but they still tried to get me to pay in advance for work that could be 6 mos. to a yr. down the road. WHAT A SCAM! How much money have they made by doing this and people either forget, an emergency comes up, or worse. I have NEVER been to a dentist that had these practices. Maybe I've just been lucky but I will NOT be going back to Aspen. One last thing, I did make an appt. for a cleaning and told the lady I wanted the 11:45 appt. that was open because I didn't want to get up early on my day off and they sent me an appt. confirmation scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Whole place is awful. read more
