I feel like I've been scammed into services at Aspen Dental that I didn't need, require nor ask for. I simply had a tooth pop off my denture. I had the tooth and I had the denture. All I needed was for Aspen Dental to put a drop of glue on the tooth and reattach it to the denture. I didn't need anything done to my body. But first I was required to fill out a medical questionnaire which would require $ 29. Then I was required to have X-Rays of my mouth. Note that I have no teeth. And later, the dentist would do an oral exam of my mouth. The cost $ 220 + plus the previous $ 29. Total $ 249 to have a tooth reglued to my denture. The normal price for such a simple job is $ 49 as listed on the Aspen Dental website. How would anyone feel if they took their car to a mechanic to have a headlight replaced but he said it is required to hook up your car to his diagnostic machine to see if there's anything else wrong with the vehicle? Cost $ 200 plus the headlight replacement. Wouldn't a normal person feel SCAMMED for extra goods or services that they didn't need nor want nor asked for? First of quality needs to be figured out. I had my first pair of Dentures. They lasted 11 years. I go to replace them, at Aspen Dental they were horrible quality that broke in half in less than a month. I ended up upgrading to their "best" denture. Technically, they were better. They lasted 11 months before breaking in half again. When I called about it, they said they would "print" them out and would call when ready. They called the next morning saying they are ready. Great, when can I come in to pick up. Their answer, a week. They could have cared less. I do not and will not ever recommend their services. To sum it up, horrible quality, horrible customer service, So, I decided to come to their office, and I will wait for them to take me in, the longer it takes, the more people I can inform of this disgusting business. read more

I left feeling ashamed, embarrassed, and taken advantage of. They required me to schedule an exam appointment before they could schedule me for a cleaning, and they wouldn't even tell me how far out they were scheduling with the hygienist until AFTER my exam. I completed the exam, and they said that the soonest I could get a cleaning was in 14 months!! When I said that I couldn't wait 14 months and that I wanted to transfer care, they tried to discourage me by saying most Aspen Dentals do not accept transfers, and that I would need to pick up a hard copy of my records to transfer, both of which were not true. During the exam, they told me I needed extensive work on my teeth that would total about $9,000. They didn't show me my scans to justify the work they said I needed. I didn't feel comfortable asking questions because the dentist's bedside manner was harsh. Another Aspen Dental I visited months later told me that I needed only a few procedures that would cost less than $400. This place is a scam. read more

Went her to get dentures for my mother. Do not go here under any circumstances. They use bait and switch techniques. Will call you when they need money from you but when you try to call them about something you need you will ALWAYS be redirected to voicemail and maybe someone will call you back someday, but more likely than not it is after you have left them several voice messages. If the dentist says you need any work, even just a filling, they require that you pay their specialist $540.00 for a second opinion. This is not optional. If the specialist says you need a root canal, you do not have the option of a dental implant. Notices left on the coffee table made it clear that if your gums are less than perfect, they will require a gingivitis treatment. These policies are not industry standard and not rational. Taking money for xrays and a check and THEN telling the customer about the $540 fee is unethical and possibly illegal. read more

CAVEAT EMPTOR! when I finally got dental insurance recently (Humana), I was introduced to the Big Con. My insurance covered a mere 10% of my bill. Aspen Dental requires payment in full, up front, before they will do any dental work. They required me to take out a loan (the cost for dentures is running me $6000). The "best deal' loan I got is charging me 30% interest. I had scheduled to be anesthetized for the extraction process. *This was neither $1000 charge.) Aspen Dental's utterly inflexible policy requires my ride (a "responsible adult") to stay with me the entire time. My only options are medical transport by Humana (their inflexible policy is the driver cannot say with me) or to take a taxi and let the meter run for the two hours I will be undergoing the extraction and recovering from sedation. whenever I have undergone anaesthetization for surgeries I was never subjected to such bullshit. read more

FIRST, please read the Class Action Claim against Aspen Dental, Northern District of New York...Case 3:12-cv.01565-DNH-ATB, filed 18 October 2012. It is easily found by Googling it...70 pages long. Read through the bullets where claims are made on how they treat clients and the methods they use to increase their bottom line. I was denied care after 50% of the procedure performed. Why, I asked to many questions and had paperwork to prove my claims. Melissa, a regional manager dismissed me, and thus denied me, a senior citizen dental care which I consider senior citizen abuse. I did not fit their mold. The office is not clean, the operatory I sat in had residue and dental items from a previous procedure. I was not offered a bib to protect my clothing, and brought my own, learning from the pervious office in Cicero. The pat answer when asking price..."Your insurance won't cover that." Smart on their part as if insurance is billed, Aspen has a contract and needs to accept "fair and equitable" payment, while if insurance is not billed, Aspen retains the full amount, and they are more than happy to set you up with a financial plan of their making. A win/win for them. If folks were knowledgeable, complaints would be directly sent to the New York State Department of Heath. Read there entries below...not a lot of happy people. After 3 calls yesterday asking when they would get in touch regarding a call from my Entodontist, they promised later that afternoon and it's now 3 pm the FOLLOWING day and still nothing. Zero star at all. If there's an option to give a negative score then I'll do. I'm so disappointed and felt scammed. I visited the clinic today 5/8/2024 because I wanted to do a teeth cleaning procedure only. I was told that the insurance that I got doesn't cover dental procedures. I still said ok to be seen and assessed by the dentist. They did perform some x-ray and physical examination on my teeth. They gave me recommendations to perform procedures to address my missing tooth however I said that I'll just be doing the cleaning since that's the main purpose of my visit. I was told to sit in front of the Asst. Office Manager; she started discussing the treatments that were recommended by the dentist and hygienist. I told her that I would probably just go with the cleaning however when she told me how much it will cost I said I would rather not to it this time because it's too much for me. The amount for just the cleaning is quoted $ 2,674. She responded that I don't have that option because my insurance is already notified about my case or something like that, infected gums maybe not sure about it though. I felt cornered and doesn't had any choice to say No. Therefore, I called the customer service to raise a complaint. I partially paid already at that point ($ 1604.4) because she said that I need to pay a percentage of the total amount. I don't wanna pursue the procedure anymore. She knows that I don't but still didn't give me the right to say No. For those who will be visiting the clinic please be mindful and know your rights. I just realized it while I'm out of the clinic therefore I'll do what's necessary to get my refund. read more

I haven't seen a dentist for a while but my wife has had a cleaning and exam about 8 months ago. Both of us were diagnosed with a need for a root plane cleaning. I suspect this is standard Aspen profit motivated practice regardless of actual results because neither me nor my wife received an actual periodontal exam. Let's make that very clear. No periodontal exam was actually done!. On top of the requirement that this "special" cleaning needed to be done in order to provide ANY further treatment, the "suggested" treatment plan includes many optional, but not required things such as a $135 Oral B electric toothbrush ( I have been using such for years at $69 for 2 of them from Costco). I have some dental issues that are being delayed treatment because of Aspen's profit motive. Do not use Aspen dental. I am working towards using a different office and will file a small claims court suit to retrieve damages from the shady practices of Aspen. read more

I wasted an hour and a half of my morning, received "complementary X-rays" and a doctor looked at my teeth only to be told at the end a cleaning is $530 after wasting my time!!!!! Too bad negative stars aren't an option. I have never been treated so terribly by a medical office as I have with Aspen Dental of Camillus. To begin, I called in early May to schedule wisdom tooth extraction. I needed to come home for my sisters graduation and decided have the surgery while at home visiting family in NY. In between scheduling the appointment with Aspen, I had to have an emergency extraction with a provider in MD. They took the tooth out after giving me some Novocain. They even bent over backwards fitting in me in to a packed schedule. The insurance went off effortlessly and couldn't be more pleased. However, when I got to New York for my consultation with Aspen Dental. I was told that I didn't actually have an appointment and "would it be ok for me to come back in two months?" I had literally flown from DC for the surgery. Why would I have done all of that if I didn't have an appointment? After getting the run around for 20 minutes, I suddenly had a magical appointment. The manager Colleen never explained where it came from. She did however imply that she would need to verify the recording from when I scheduled the appointment. Basically to prove if I was lying. Next, the woman at the front desk would not take my medical insurance card, along with my dental insurance card, even though I knew that both would need to be processed. This was how the dental insurance went two weeks prior with the other dentist. I insisted that she take a copy. Then came up with a reasonable insurance quote, which made it appear everything was in order. During the oral surgery I woke up while my last tooth was being extracted. How is it possible that I woke up? Shouldn't the anesthesiologist be monitoring me while I am "sleeping"? What if something happened to me? Where they paying attention at all? The oral surgeon eventually said "don't worry sweetie, you are doing great and it is almost over". It hurt like hell. All of this would have been tolerable. I was willing to move past it. Until I got a notification from my dental insurance that my claim was denied. Of course it was. My insurance needs to go through medical first. When I called Aspen dental, I was rudely told that it is illegal for them to submit to my major medical insurance (a statement that I later learned to be entirely untrue). The woman I spoke to offered me no suggestions on what to do. Nor could she explain how I didn't find out about insurance issues until after the fact when the office manager inquired with the insurance company prior to my surgery. Again, all of this would have been tolerable. I was totally willing to file a claim on my own. All I needed was for the doctor to sign a claim form for me. Three weeks later, I have no claim form. I do have emails, as many as twice a week, from staff telling me they would send the completed form by COB that day. I also spoke to many people on the phone who told me I would have the form by COB that day. In between I would have several days of being ignored. Don't you want to be paid for your services? Even if they thought they could send me the form by the end of the day, didn't I deserve notification when that wasn't possible? Finally, I was told that the form was filled out and ready for the dentist to sign (last week). However, he would not be in the office until today 6/15/2015. We would have to wait for him to physically be in Camillus to sign it. Rather than getting angry and asking why the form couldn't be digitally signed, faxed or emailed to the dentist (this is 2015 and all), I relented and waiting patiently for the week to go by. This morning I sent a "friendly reminder" to have the dentist sign my form today. I sent the email at 8:20am. By 3:30pm I heard nothing from them, so I called. I was informed by the phone operator that the dentist would not be at the Camillus office for several weeks. Not only was I lied to about him coming in today, I was ignored all day after inquiring about the form being signed. I did just get off the phone with a FEP Blue Cross representative who told me it is entirely untrue that it is illegal for aspen dental to submit a claim to them. She spoke to Megan who told her by 48 hours FEP Blue Cross Blue Shield would have my claim. I'll believe it when I see it. What makes me the angriest about this whole situation is all of the other people who are being told their insurance is no good. Are there other people, not willing to fight something that seems wrong, who are paying for dental care out of pocket through an overly-advertised overly-convenient Aspen payment plan? It just seems criminal to me. I plan on informing as many people as I can about my experience with Aspen Dental. read more

I went to have a tooth pulled at ASPEN in New Hartford and was convinced to get a root canal and crown instead of just having it pulled. The crown would not stay on! It fell off many times. I had to keep going back to the New Hartford office and getting it put back in until it was apparent it was not going to stay. Now I have an ugly sharp little nub my insurance will not pay to fix because they already paid for the root canal. That was my experience last year!This year I went to the Camillus location and had a consultation to have a broken wisdom tooth removed after being referred by my primary dentist, the oral surgeon was polite and informative. I was given a break down of the cost and told to call back and make my appointment when I had the down payment as my insurance will not cover the IV sedation. Well, when I called to do so not only was the upfront cost different, $80.00 more than expected but I was not allowed to make an appointment due to the fact that the less than helpful office manager Melissa "Missy" did not know when the surgeon would be available again. I asked about the payment discrepancy and she told me all the offices charge different rates. I explained her office in Camillus gave me the quote and she got rude and said it was a mistake. I did give some attitude in my voice at this point, but who wouldn't be frustrated. She then went on to say maybe I should go somewhere else to get the dental work done and hung up on me. I called back to ask her if they could take the down payment and when the surgeons schedule would be known, pointing out that she had hung up on me when I did so. I was then told she did not have time to help me or explain things to me as she had other customers to help. I asked when I could call back and speak to someone else and she informed me she was the office manager and there was no one else to speak to. I have been in pain and waiting for appointments and dealing with this for months now. The speedy caring service they advertise seems to be completely BS! I am beyond frustrated with ASPEN Dental at the moment and Guardian insurance as well because Aspen seems to be the only in network option for oral surgery here in New York State. If you can go someplace else I recommend you do as Aspen seems to not really care about the patient only the money. I have yet to schedule my appointment and I expect even worse service now because of this review but I feel other potential customers should be warned! Hopefully someone in the corporate office has more customer service skills and will fix these problems but as of right now I am not optimistic. read more

Aspen Dental is simply awful. I tried for a year to get my son in to see an oral surgeon. First one location canceled our appointment the day before the appointment because it was the oral surgeon's last week. They admitted they had no idea why no one called me weeks earlier as the appointment was made 60 days in advance. Then I spent a couple months calling other Aspens, another location said they'd call me when they could schedule us, never called. Finally I got a consult appointment at Fairmount location. I call to confirm the day before and my appointment was canceled with no explanation! No one called and the person said there was no reason that she knew. The scheduled me again because they found a cancellation, we meet the surgeon and he agrees to do the surgery. We make an appointment a month ahead of time. I call that week to confirm and guess what? Yes-our appointment disappeared again!! No explanation! They found another cancellation and put us in, both times not allowing me to give my job proper notice. The kicker was we showed up for the appointment, filled out all the paperwork, paid the balance, and then 15 minutes after his appointment time someone tells me they can't do the surgery because they don't have nitros! The oral surgeon assumed there would be nitros there. The manager at this location is who turned my frustration to anger. She was so rude, never offered any apology, literally glared at me, I wanted a plan to reschedule, Aspen is the only provider in my network. I had to ask her to go make a call to find out when they would have more nitros! She left made a call and then said it was back ordered so she couldn't say. Offered no other plan to move forward. Has obviously had zero customer service training and has no business running a dental office. I can only imagine what kind of dentist would want to be associated with Aspen Dental, this place is terrible, they don't care about you or your time and they obviously have zero communication with each other, several receptionists have said this. Don't waste your time at Aspen, find a reputable place to take yourself or your loved ones. read more

This company should have many lawsuits against them for misleading (and I use that as a nice way to say lied to) their patients. I went in for a quick exam and cleaning when I could not get in with my regular dentist and I was so sorry I did. The dentist examined me and did not state any problem. The hygienist however came back in and went into a whole snake oil pitch on how a had periodontal disease and would need scaling and root planing and have antibiotic placed in my gums and would need scaling and root planing done every 6 months because of how bad it is. Sent out to finance person and bill was around $3,500 that was my part insurance was paying on top of that. As I talked to her itemizing the bill took off a $100.00 electric toothbrush and many other upsells bill came down to $950. Really???? I have never been told I have any problems with my gums, no bleeding no swelling where did this come from? Went back to regular dentist as soon as I could and found out I was correct that I did not have any problems . They had a hygienist that once worked at Aspen and she said this is how they teach their employees to look for a little problem that they can spin into making money which is their bottom line. Wary of dentist after many stints with UNICEF in remote areas of Africa, Asia and South America, so to get me back in a dentist chair has been tough for me. I just relocated to Syracuse so I asked for recommendations from colleagues, and Aspen in Camillus was favorably mentioned a few times. I thought of Aspen as a so call "chain" would be more factory-line service, but each and everyone I spoke or dealt with was phenomenal, from the receptionist, finance manager, periodontitis, exam-technician and a great dentist. I have just begun a long process, but I am feeling so comfortable in my choice. read more

I went to Aspen yesterday. I received a free consultation when I put in my insurance information and was told that they accept the company, but not my personal insurance. I got examined and was told by the dentist that my wisdom teeth needed to be removed immediately. When they sat me down in their office and showed me the $3,000 cost of the surgery, which is money I do not have out of pocket, I applied for two of their payment plans and was denied each time. Here's the thing, I am a server and a bartender and weekends generate a lot of my income. Their first payment option of $75 a month was super generous and I'd be able to pay that and a little extra no problem. Even their second option which is a little more pricey was still do-able. But I was denied twice. Basically Aspen believes that I need my wisdom teeth removed immediately, but won't allow me to have a healthy mouth, smiling in my face as they deny me of every possible payment plan that I am able to commit to. read more

I cannot express how awful their customer service is!! After several terrible experiences my husband and I have had it with them! 1. I was scheduled for a wisdom tooth extraction. At the time, there was heavy snow, I was on crutches with a broken ankle and my father had to miss work in order to take me there. Upon arriving I was told that there was an issue with my insurance and they wouldn't be able to do the surgery that day. I was absolutely enraged that they didn't once try to call and tell me this before I showed up to the appointment!! Absolute waste of time and they never once apologized for the inconvenience! Then, a few weeks later, I noticed they charged my credit card for the extraction that I never even got! Are you kidding me?!?! Day after day, I spent hours on the phone, I don't know how many times I got put on hold or how many people I had to speak with before finally getting the situation settled. It felt like no one actually wanted to help me, they just wanted to pass me off to someone else and hope I would just go away. 2. My husband has gone in for at least 2 standard cleaning appointments (taking time off of work!) only to find out that he wasn't even on the schedule, even though they had called to confirm just a day before!! 3. Received a bill for a tooth cleaning which is usually paid by our insurance. Called them to inquire, apparently they ran the wrong insurance information. After providing the correct information and getting their confirmation that it had gone through, a month later I get another bill - a final notice threatening that it's going to go to collections! This is the last straw, we're fighting this one last battle and then we are so done with them. They are terrible, incompetent and uncaring. They do not care about the patients at all, they just want your money!!! read more

Nice staff. I brought my daughter in for a root canal but we had to reschedule her to see the Endodontist (to her the best care possible) and since they had the time, they asked me if I wanted to get my tooth pulled that day instead of rescheduling. Even though I had both my children with me, they were able to tend to my needs as well as watch over them while I had my procedure. They even let my 6 yr old come look at my tooth. Over all they were truly awesome. read more
