Extremely disappointed with the service and lack of integrity and compassion I received at this location. The chief dentist and owner of this facility recommended I have all my teeth removed and be fitted with a full set of dentures without conducting a mobility test. I've been battling periodontal disease for quite some time. In an effort to preserve my teeth as long as possible, I have gained a full understanding of this disease, routinely undergone many deep scale cleanings and have taken in home care to a high level. When I told her I thought her recommendation was an extreme approach, and inquired about other options, she quickly handed be a referral form to Maine Dentistry and proceed to walk out of the room begrudgingly. Needless to say, her diagnosis was alarming and I knew her only concern was to generate additional revenue for her practice. Shortly after my visit to the Topsham, Me location, I booked an appointment with a periodontal specialist who told me her diagnosis was extreme and my teeth did not need to be removed. He also mentioned that my in home care routine was exceptional and recommended that I continue moving forward with my quarterly cleaning schedule. read more

TLDR; This is by far the worst dental experience I have had, and this is including a dentist I went to in a third world country. Our dental insurance changed, and this was the only nearby place that is covered. I wasn't expecting a great experience, but I was floored by how bad it was. My wife and I had to get appointments an hour apart, so I was waiting for an hour before getting in. The entire time I am sitting in the waiting room, I have to listen to the staff talking about patients and how stupid they are. When I finally get in, I noticed that the X-Ray machine's license expired a year ago. Machines need to be regularly certified to make sure they are working. The plate they put in my mouth for the pictures moved out of place several times, but they never retook any pictures. I can't remember anytime before where I got all my X-rays taken correctly on the first try. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they didn't actually take any X-Rays at all. They barely looked at my teeth before telling me that I had periodontal disease, and launched into an obviously well rehearsed canned sales pitch that mingled scary sounding imagery with dental jargon. They had given this pitch to my wife, and I overheard it being given to another patient. Finally, I am asked to go into this little, dimly lit room, to speak to a financial advisor about how I am going to pay them the $2600 they want me to pay out of pocket (after insurance, it was near $6000 before insurance) for the services they wanted me to get (4 fillings and a cleaning service that included antibiotics). The guy talking to me has the air of a seedy used car salesman, and is talking down to me pretty hard. I left without making a follow up appointment. There is no way I would ever step foot in this place again. What makes me most sick, is that the clientele was primarily made up of low income people. This place is set up to take advantage of them; they treat people like they are less-than, and try to scare them into paying for overpriced services they don't need. Avoid this place. read more

Made appointment for a broken tooth 5 days in advance. They changed price on me once in office, blamed it on call service. Then said they don't do same day procedures. Waited 15 minutes past appointment. Was taken back for X-ray then put in chair. Dentist. Some in for no more than 3 minutes. Said there was nothing to be done and it needed pulled. And that they didn't have time. I watched many people get their prices change once they spoke to front staff. Again blamed on call service. I spent $200 for 3 mins of time. Horrible place. read more

I had a broken tooth that had become infected. The pain was very bad and the oral surgeons I contacted were booking three months out. Topsham Aspen Dental took me as a walk in. xrays were done promptly and professionally, The dentist was calm cool and collected. She asked if I wanted to have the tooth extracted. I said Yes. Please! it was all over in three minutes. I had read about the legal problems Aspen had brought on itself in Massachusetts and was very skeptical. I was so very pleasantly impressed by all of the staff. And am so very grateful they did what needed to be done. Probably goes to show that each oraxtice should be assessed on a case by case experience. Mine was superb. read more

Definitely a scam. I normally go to a different dentist which is way better, but I chipped a front tooth and they got me in sooner. Well I regret that. They insisted on doing an x-ray of the chip and then sat me down in a chair and said we don't have time to fix this chip for 2 weeks?? Okay then why did you do the x-ray after I already stated I have another dentist anyway. I ended up getting into my own dentist the next day and they did not ask for an x-ray nor want one. I came in for emergency tooth extraction. They scheduled me a week after I called, I told them I needed this tooth pulled because it was ripping the side of my tongue. They overbooked that day and didn't have time to pull the tooth but grind down the tooths sharp edges. The time they took for that, they could have pulled the tooth. It cost me $187.00. They scheduled the extraction 4 days later. I asked before leaving, "Will i get charged the office visit again?", and the lady told me no. It would be $211.00. I was ok with that and came in for the next appointment. They charged me $380.00, which I had to pay before they would even check me in. Since I was self paying, I had a problem with this, but I knew I was over a barrel. I paid the charges. So... I paid almost $600.00 to have a simple tooth pulled. I got scammed and can't do anything about this. I should have read all these reviews first, but I didn't. I had a good visit the last time I came here. However, that was years ago. I know I will never go to Aspen Dental again. They will never get a recommendation from me either. read more

PLEASE read this before considering Aspen Dental!! I wish I could give zero stars. I have been going to Aspen for years. During my recent appointment I was told that I had early onset periodontitis. With that, I was quoted some $2100 for treatment to stop the issue from spreading. I was also told that they would NOT do a routine cleaning until I had this procedure done first. A good portion of the cost would be out of pocket even after my insurance. I decided to wait to schedule the treatment because I didn't have the cash at the time and I didn't want to put it on credit. After thinking about it more, I felt uneasy with the diagnosis. I felt that perhaps I created an easy opening for Aspen to recommend a treatment because I mentioned early on during my appointment that periodontitis runs in my family and although I practice good oral hygiene it was a concern of mine. Ultimately, I decided to get a second opinion from a highly recommended periodontist. They essentially told me I have no periodontitis and didn't understand why I was there. I have thick gums, but no inflammation indicative of the disease. They were perplexed. I left there feeling relieved but very upset with Aspen for pushing this procedure on me, along with antibiotics, which I didn't need. I felt used! I feel that Aspen took advantage of my concerns and used them to push a procedure on me that I didn't need and also refused to do any other treatments or cleanings until I paid up and had this procedure done. Furthermore, I went to a new dentist for a routine cleaning and they too said that they didn't see any signs of periodontitis. That being said, places like Aspen Dental are convenient because they offer a multitude of services ... but they will take advantage of you. Go find yourself a good quality dentist that has a private practice. I am so glad I listened to my gut and got a second opinion. This out of pocket cost would have really added extra struggle to an already tight budget, furthermore, I felt a huge relief knowing that I didn't need this procedure to be healthy. I was anxious for weeks feeling that the longer I waited to get this procured done, the worse off I would be and the more degeneration that would result- as told to me by one of the Aspen employees. I Please note, this is not aimed at any specific person or individual- I appreciate the folks that provide the services they do. This place is running a total scam. After waiting months to be seen, and with no prior dental issues, I was put through and hour and half new patient appointment. At the end of which they announced that they would not be able to do a regular tooth cleaning for me. And I would need to pay $1200 out of pocket immediately to have any cleaning services done. Despite having dental insurance. They are taking advantage of people by leading them on through a process that will resort in exorbitant charges. They're only endgame is to make money. And to do so at the expense of hard-working people that are taking them to the reputable organization. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Like a number of other reviewers, I wish I could give Aspen Dental a zero. I have been a loyal customer for over 5 years in two different locations, but starting with the serious computer issues they had in the summer of 2023, I have completely lost respect for this dental option. On several occasions, my appointments were put in the system in error--I showed up twice to find that I didn't have an appointment even though it had been set several months earlier. Most recently, I arrived for an appointment that had been changed and hour before I arrived. I asked the receptionist if she could at least ask my dentist to look at panorama x-rays that had been done by a local endodontist. She agreed to asked the dentist to check the pictures, but when I arrived the next day hoping for even a minimal comment, I was told that the dentist hadn't had time to look at the information I had brought in. I am really sorry about the terrible performance of the office and certainly wouldn't recommend Aspen Dental to anyone looking for a new dentist in the Brunswick area. The receptionist told me that she had checked and the xrays were covered. They were not. Had to make a second appointment for the cleaning another 6 months out! I called yesterday to make an appointment for a routine cleaning and xrays with Aspen Dental in Topsham. I was told that the dentist had to examine me before the cleaning to determine what type of cleaning I would need and then I would have to schedule the cleaning at a later date. This is so they can bill you twice for an exam by the dentist. Who does this ? Who falls for this ? This is not how its done. As a travel nurse I've been here twice. I agree with all of the reviews I've read and wish I had read them ahead of time. I too had the new patient appt and was told I had periodontal disease and was given a treatment plan after the appt and sent directly to the managers office. The manager pulled up the treatment plan and tan my insurance and I was told the plan would cost over $11,000. I was offered a line of credit which I declined and scheduled my next appointment for 3 extractions. That appointment was cancelled when I arrived because the receptionist said the appointment had not been confirmed. I had received a text reminder but no option to confirm the appt. I showed up early and had to reschedule. After using the topical numbing agent, which likely should've been left to sit longer, the dentist came to numb with the injection. It was extremely painful. I e never had such deep and sharp pain with a numbing injection. The second appointment for 3 fillings was similar. The 2 numbing injections hurt so bad I was crying. After waiting a few minutes the dentist came back to start the fillings. The drilling hurt like hell and I told her this. She offered to use another injection which I was shaking at the thought of. I agreed and luckily was left to "let it soak in" for longer. I told the dentist after that she might consider some retraining on technique because I never have had that much pain with the numbing in all of my dental experiences. When asked if I wanted to schedule my next appointment, I declined, stating that I had to wait months for that appt and my contract would be up before then. I was told that when they hire another dentist, it will be easier to schedule appts. Kinda makes me wonder why they can't find a dentist to work there. Perhaps reputable and competent dentists wouldn't work with that business model. read more

RIP OFF, BEWARE! Unnecessary and costly procedures! I was told I needed a "deep cleaning" but it couldn't be done until I paid a hefty deposit and signed a contract that I would pay out-of-pocket if insurance wouldn't cover it. I was assured that the insurance company will cover it. Also they would only do one side of my mouth one day and the other side a week later. When asked why... I was told that if they do it all on the same day insurance won't pay. The procedure that they did was really no different than a regular cleaning. I was sent home with a mouth wash that cost $35. As it turns out insurance would not cover the cost and I had to shell out $428. I'm done with Aspen! I will say that I really liked the dentists and felt they were competent. read more

WOW!! If I could give this place a zero I would!! The blonde at the desk today was a totally not helpful at all. After I said my appointment confirmation in my phone was for that location she blew me off and did not express any care in the world I was 30 minutes early as well. I had my self together and was prepared to spend 5 to $10,000.00 dollars on dental services needed for myself armed also with a care credit approval! I would not spend one red cent in this office! This dentist has lost money had over fist keeping that lady on as his first contact person in his office. There was one other lady darker complexion who did offer me a well check up appointment. I originally called to schedule an appointment at the Auburn location, however was referred to this location due to my son being under the age of five (X-Ray reasons). When I requested an appointment before my son for bi-annual check up cleaning and my son's to be directly after mine. After much shuffling in their schedules the lady found me a slot. Fast forward a few weeks and my son and I arrive promptly for our appointments, file the necessary documents and wait. Called into the room, it was to my surprise they have large dividers (like cubicles) between stations and not the traditional rooms where doors close you can be sure confidentially is kept. So I sit down, my son is watching, and they do the X-Rays which is all good and swell, but then they sit me back down, poke my gums and do the number bit to see if I have any gum diseases and then tell me I have a cavity in one tooth and a possible one in another, but could be a stain, and there's build up in a couple of spots... so we'll need to see you again after a cleaning. To my surprise... isn't a cleaning normally part of an office visit especially for new patients? So I hop of my seat and they usher me and my son into an office to reschedule a cleaning and assessment for treatment... My son is then picked up to start his appointment he gets the cleaning and a few X-Rays of his front teeth, all well and good and we're out of there in good time. Fast forward two weeks I drive an hour from my current location to this and get called in again and I'm put in a chair and they start right into poking my gums again checking for disease, and then immediately start to prescribe me a special toothpaste and mechanical toothbrush for Hygiene Therapy, and asked if there were any other services I was looking into... I must have had look of utter confusion because when I asked them about the cleaning they said they'd do it before the filling because the need a clean surface, but they had a cancellation and they could possibly schedule later today. (Please keep in mind I am taking a day off from work again, and traveling 45 minutes one way). I also asked the about the cavity, and now I have two cavities. After walking away for the chair getting the exact same appointment twice I was completely dumbfounded. When I walked out the lady handed me a paper with all the extras included for "payment plan" and I just shook my head no, and left without scheduling any followups. I'm sorry but the lack of understanding and communication between clients,doctors and the front staff is frustrating and I can't suggest enough not to come here again until some major overhauls are completed. I now have an appointment at an older dentist that's about 1 hour away, but I figure I'd rather go to a location I've known to be true without any hassle and a diagnosis that accurate and not "flexible" I hope this helps, and good luck on your dental health! read more

I can't speak for their dental services because my appointment was never honored. I ended up waiting 45 min for my appointment before having to leave because I would miss another appointment I had that day (I don't get too many afternoons off!). When I got to their office, I was not told of any kind of delay. Finally after waiting for 30 min, I inquired about a delay and am told that they are behind due to an "emergency." The receptionist went in the back to check things and I heard some whispering. On the sign-in sheet I was the first on the list but there were several names after mine, including a person who was taken for her appointment after mine was supposed to start. The whole thing was very sketchy. I got the feeling that they over-booked and weren't owning up to it. Things happen, I get that, but it was handled very poorly and an apology for wasting my time would've been nice. read more

Aspen may offer a free x-ray series and exam, but they will make up that cost one way or another. After my first exam, the hygienist informed me I have "periodontal disease" and am losing bone (the dentist didn't say a word about bone loss on my x-rays). They rushed me into a treatment plan and even had a first appointment available for scaling and root planing open for an hour later. While, of course, I did consent and pay for that treatment, I was absolutely taken advantage of. The whole process was quick, quick, quick and I didn't fully recognize the red flags until later that day. So, I called to ask questions about my treatment plan and prognosis and spoke with the hygienist that did the first half of the scaling and root planing. She did seem to have an explanation for everything but I still didn't feel comfortable. Well, a second opinion from a different local dentist confirmed that nothing in the treatment plan was really necessary. Neither the dentist or hygienist agreed with the perio charting findings or periodontal disease diagnosis. Nothing to warrant anything except a regular cleaning, costing approximately $100. Bottom line: I would not recommend Aspen Dental to anyone. Their practices are unscrupulous and focused on profit, not healthcare. read more

Can't say anything negative about my experience. I am a women of a "certain age" who has not taken very good care of my teeth and I was embarrassed and fearful, but everyone treated me with the utmost respect and assured me every step of the way. After my X-rays (the technician was very friendly and personable) and initial meeting with the dentist (loved her!) who did a thorough examination and answered any and all questions, I sat down with the "case manager" who spent a lot of time with me and explained all the work that needed to be done, helped me schedule several appointments and laid out a fair and reasonable payment plan. I know there are lots of nay-sayers about chain dental companies, but I found the whole experince extremely easy and has relieved many of my dental fears. read more

Do not book an appointment with Aspen Dental, ever. I have booked 3 appointments over the last 6-7 months and, even though, I get a confirmation call the night before, the day before the appointment, they cancel saying the "hygienist is unavailable." I was told to re-book, but, uh, I don't think so. I even showed up at one of the appointments and was told they "overbooked", and "were sorry" but could not fit me in that day. Not even trying to fit me in. WTF? Well, hire another hygienist! Ridiculous! I am going back to my former dentist, Great Falls Dentistry in Auburn. They are a little higher in prices, but at least I can maintain my scheduled cleanings as I wish. read more

So, I went to Aspen in September. It had been a long time since I had been to a dentist and was expecting some work but they told me I had periodontal disease and my pockets were deep and needed my wisdom teeth removed, because I hadn't been to the dentist in a long time, I unfortunately believed them. I got the work done and fast forward to about a month and half later, I'm having discomfort in my gums. Because I was told that I had periodontal disease and made to feel that my mouth was a disgusting cesspool of bacteria and charged a ridiculous amount of money even with insurance, I wasn't too keen on going back. I went to a new dentist and was told my gums were healthy! They told me it was unusual for my pockets to be as deep as aspen told me and that if that were the case I would be experiencing some bone loss. My new dentist said that they were just barely hitting 3.5mm for the pockets even with pushing on my gums as much as they could. As much as I was happy about having healthy gums I was pissed to find out they were perfectly healthy and didn't show signs of periodontal. I'm pretty pissed after spending the amount of money that I did over there. DO NOT GO TO ASPEN!! I did have a couple staff members who were pretty good but some of them barely talked to me when doing work and like I said made me feel like my mouth was disgusting and when I got my wisdom teeth removed didn't care for the bedside manner of the surgeon. And they told my dad who takes excellent care of his teeth and gets regular dentist visitors from there that he had periodontal disease with deep pockets when he was there 6 months ago for a cleaning! So, one last time for the people in the back! I am not able to speak about their Dental services, as my appointment for help with a cracked and infected tooth was bumped at the last minute. I was a NEW patient who had already submitted all personal info and insurance info prior to the visit so it could go smoothly. I waited almost 3 weeks for the appointment, and just a few days before I was finally able to go in, they called me and told me "something came up" and they needed to bump my appointment. It ended up being bumped out almost another 4 weeks! Needless to say I waited another week or so and the pain got too severe, so I contacted a different dental practice in the area and they saw me right away the next day. Fast forward a few weeks later, I get an email from Aspen asking me to confirm my appointment in a few days. The same email I received last time, that they ended up not honoring. So I called the number in the email to cancel, and it just rang and rang! After letting that number ring over 25 times, I hung up and searched for a local number online where I was finally able to get through after a few minutes to cancel my appointment. We just had an extremely irritating experience with Aspen Dental in Topsham, ME. My husband broke a tooth, and due to a health issue, cannot take a chance on an infection. I called Aspen Dental at 12:38.The woman I spoke with said they could see him at 1 for an emergency visit. I told her we were about 20 minutes away and would obviously be a couple of minutes late. She said that was fine, go ahead and go to the office.We drove to the office , and at 1 were still a few minutes away, so we called them to say we were almost there. A different woman answered and said they could not see him because all patients must be there 15 before the first appointment for paperwork. I said we only made the appointment a few minutes before,and would never have been able to be 15 early. She said all patients are told this and no one would have told us to come on over. (Called me a liar....). She then discovered that I had made the appointment with their call center, and again said they would have told me about the 15 minute policy. I again explained how the appointment was made. She then revealed that the 1:00 time is not a real appointment, but just a time they hold for emergencies, and they fit that person in. Of course, that means that if we had been there 15 minutes early, we would still have had to wait to be fit in. We tried to tell her that in that case , us arriving a few minutes late for paperwork shouldn't made any difference as we would have been waiting anyway. She would not see that logic, but refused to see him. She did offer we could just come sit in the office all afternoon in case someone did not show,but if all their patients did show they would not see him. We declined,and needless to say, will not make a future appointment with them. read more

I went to Topsham as a new patient to take advantage of the free xrays for first timers without insurance. I've only had the best experiences there on all three occasions. The first appointment was for the xrays and an evaluation which was explained to me in a way that was easy to understand. I met with the office manager to set up a payment plan that was easy on my budget. The second appointment was for a scaling and Tina took care of that reassuring me throughout as I had told her I had a fear of any and all dental procedures. She's great and I walked out of there with happy teeth ! The third appointment was for three fillings, two of which were surface fillings. The third filling was down below the gumline and I had been told several times by my previous, out of state dentist that it would be impossible to fill that tooth,I needed a crown, blah,blah,blah. Dr Edwards told me at the eval that filling that tooth would not be a problem at all. She is awesome ! She filled that tooth in no time flat with Alyssa assisting and they talked to each other during the procedure... What?! Unlike some offices that insist on talking directly to the patient with their fingers in your mouth !! It was the best experience I ever had at the dentist. So I would not hesitate to recommend Aspen Dental in Topsham. They are also easier to schedule with than the Auburn office and it is a quick trip from Lewiston where I live. read more

I went to aspen dental to get a new denture. I was told they could have them ready within days. They asked for 1/2 up front ($825) which I paid. IN one day they had the impression made. After they burned my face with the hard wax they used to mold and ripped the corners of my mouth on both sides. when I went back the bite was completely off. My top dentures slid to the right and the bottom slid to the left. The dentist looked at me and said, "OH they look nice" what did they think I was blind? they were terrible. the teeth themselves were way too long and the bit was off. I told them I was not satisfied. and they said they would remake the temporary ones to come back Friday. Due to illness I missed my friday appt. and called to reschedule. I explained that I was NOT satisfied and wanted my money back. I was told she could not do that and they would call me back. that was 7 days ago I have attempted to call at least a 1/2 dozen times and they keep saying they will return my call. Now I am out $825 and have no dentures. I have contacted my attorney Robinson, Kregar, and McCullen. Do not do business with these people it will land out costing more than you think with absolutely no service. read more
