My husband called Airport Automotive in West Columbia, told them we had a Landrover that was…read moreleaking anti-freeze, we needed the brakes replaced and would like an oil change. The person he spoke to assured him they could handle the repairs. We took the car to them and dropped it off on a Sunday night. After 2 days we hadn't heard anything so my husband called them and spoke to a different person who said, "Oh, yeah, we don't work on Landrovers." My husband said he had spoken to someone else there that said they did so then we received a call back and they said they could work on it. By Thursday they still hadn't fixed it but called my husband to say they could do the oil change but really didn't feel as if they were qualified to do the other repairs on a Landrover. So on Friday (after not having the car for almost a week at this point) my husband goes to pick it up. They charged us $191 to run diagnostics on it even though they decided they cannot work on Landrovers and for the oil change. Why run diagnostics if you have decided your mechanics are not qualified to work on Landrovers?? To top it off, they had apparently kept it parked under a tree all week which dripped thousands of tiny drops of sap of some sort all over the car that will not come off. Multiple car washes later and the sap is still there. They gave us the run around, kept the car for a week, charged us to run diagnostics for repairs they were never going to do and I now have sap all over my car! VERY UPSET "customer" here. Will never go back.

I got the lame excuse to drive the car 500 miles to give the new distributor time to learn your car's comp system. Even in idle, the car was shaking , right after they worked on my car. It wouldn't transition to the next gear. I was on the highway driving 50 mph and the car would jolt back and forth ... Revs at 2k rpm and jump up to 2.5k rpm back and forth. I immediately took my car back. Then I waited since last Fri til now for my car. They kept saying the 2 distributors they ordered were bad and kept doing the same problems. Imagine, I bring my car to mechanic and pay almost $600 and my car comes out of their shop 1000 xs worse than when I first bought it in to them. It was running smooth but the engine and hold lights came on and I didn't want my car stuck on the highway one day soon. Then they have excuse that the mechanic's mom is dying of cancer. I'm sorry to hear that but they got their money. It's their job to find another mechanic. My friend Eli told me that the distributor is a minor repair and shouldn't cost too much, but definitely not anywhere near $600!

Which was said to buy time to test my car leaks, for a car that hadn't been touch for 3 days. The manager said she would call me back to she had to talk to the owner. I was called back and told he would reimburse me half, because he fixed half the problems and I could pick up my car that day. I picked up my car which was soaked in water on the passenger side which had the leak issue, which meant my car was not being worked on until I called and they scattered to test it again for the leak issue. The owner would not come out to discuss this issue....very unprofessional and he could care less. I called a few days later during a big rain and stated my car was not fixed and I was very upset. The manager took the message and my call was Never returned. I should have received a Total Refund. This place clearly did not know how to fix my car and is dishonest. I will never go here again, I lost money by using this place.

I just believe that they are so incapable of being efficient and accurate that they create poor customer experience. I presented my vehicle to be repaired over two months ago. The problem was simple. It was a squeak with some vibration in the front end. To make a long story short, almost $2000 later and the problem persists. I have no intention of returning to the shop because I have absolutely no faith that they will diagnose and fix this problem. Once again to be fair. Everything that they did needed to be done but could've been done without four visits and did nothing to fix the problem. The relationship killer was when the mechanic who had been working on my vehicle came into the office area and started defending his ability to fix my car. He seemed to be in some kind of conflict with the other mechanic and got very agitated when I mentioned that the other mechanic was the only one who understood the problem. The reason for this is that the other mechanic had been on a test drive and heard the noise and put the car on a lift and visually inspected it. The manager heard the angry mechanics outburst and did nothing to de-escalate. I counted 7 easily preventable failures ranging from repeatedly putting my truck on a lift that was too small to failure to confirm resolution of the original problem, inadequate communication and in fighting.

When the motor returned from the machine shop, that price went up to $8500 because he said he underestimated the cost of the machine shop work. The lack of communication was unreal. Then the week of installing the engine he gives me a bill for $11,984.01 because he said the quote did not include his labor. Additionally, the parts HE ordered (headers, radiator) did not fit. His solution to this problem was for me to reorder these parts at my own expense!! And he was very disrespectful about it as if I ordered I made the mistake! It took ALL of my military bearing to remain calm with this guy. He initially told me he had to order all of the parts for this project and now he wanted me to order parts for a misquoted job. I refused! I forfeited my engine and deposit and just took it as a horrible and costly experience. I wasn't giving him anymore money because if you're incompetent enough to order the wrong parts then who knows how the motor will run..especially for nearly $12k!!! I was fooled by the good reviews and did not read into the bad ones, which point out the same issues I experienced. There were several flags you should pick up on if you ever consider using this place...heck I should've picked up on these flags but he starts off very professional until he gets your money of course. 1st flag: the business does not take Visa, Mastercard, etc. or that's what I was told. I had to pay all in cash. 2nd flag: his quotes are very vague, sketchy, misleading and he won't give you much in writing. 3rd flag: he is a very rude guy who lacks customer service skills. He will turn belligerent as soon as you question him on something. 4th flag: He rarely has any customers at his shop. (This is when I realized I had been scammed) This is a shady establishment, please BEWARE!! Don't be like me, READ THE BAD REVIEWS and do your due diligence. I would not recommend this business to anyone! Very disappointed!

I've gotten a lot of maintenance work done here. Throttle body cleaning, tires (alignment + balance…read more+ rotation), a serpentine belt and tensioner pulley. But after my check engine light came on for EVAP codes. I started to notice their lack of communication. The EVAP codes could be multiple things like a purge valve, vacuum switching valve, charcoal canister, hoses etc. I ordered a vacuum switching valve after some research and they said it was the wrong part. It wasn't the wrong part, because I just had it installed somewhere else, and the VSV already on there wouldn't click at all. So the part I previously ordered was the right buy. But old school wanted to put a new part in that they ordered. A vent valve. I had no issue. They're professionals they know what they're doing maybe my vent valve was faulty. But when I asked how they diagnosed that it was indeed a faulty vent valve. They wouldn't tell me. Keith said "you can't really tell if it's bad". So you're replacing a part that you're not sure I need? Sheesh could at least run the smoke test. Then trying to ask for more info about the part they're ordering and putting in my car, was a hassle. I felt like a nuisance. As a customer I shouldn't feel nervous asking about my car but they sound extremely annoyed talking to me. I'm at performance express and was just told I had a massive head gasket oil leak. Old school didn't catch that. Thank god I was able to catch it. But old school is good overall. Parts come in quick. Labor prices are pretty good. Just communication is meh. Chris is awesome tho.

Keith and his team are the best in the Columbia, SC area! I had a massive project on my 4Runner…read morethat I almost gave up on. It required a huge tear down to take out the left engine head and send it to a machine shop to extract two cross threaded bolts. I hired a local mechanic before to do the project, but he stopped working on it after tearing apart about 80% of the parts under the hood. I collected all of the parts and hundreds of screws/bolts in bags and towed the car to Old School Automotive. I thought it would be impossible to figure out where every screw and bolt goes when putting it back together. Somehow, Keith and his team of expert mechanics were able to solve the puzzle after pouring hours and hours into organizing all the parts to put back together. It's up and running like new again, and I couldn't be more blown away. There's nothing this team can't do. They were very detailed oriented and fixed what needed to be fixed, and left alone what didn't. It's not easy to pick up a project that you didn't start yourself. They were extremely fair and transparent with their service and pricing too. Whether you have a small job, or a massive project that requires reassembling the engine, Old School Automotive can do it. A good mechanic is like a good surgeon. I won't take my cars anywhere else (and I live 100+ miles away in Greenville, SC now).
