Took it to Minnie's bc I was so impressed w the first visit which was just a basic oil change. This was on a Monday and they were booked til Friday so I set the appointment and came back later. They did a full inspection and determined the issue was a failing coolant pump on the electric side. They said they found no leaks etc.They detailed what the issue was and what the fix was. I'm definitely impressed w how they break down what they do into digestible bite sized bits for non-car folks. They offered I could pick up the car and pay the diagnostic/inspection fee of $50. Said they didn't have the high voltage equipment to work on the car and advised go to a specialist. Lucky for me I do have one ( Woodards in Florence, I just moved here from there. ). They work on hybrids and electric so I took it there. The only grip I'd have is that I did ask if Minnie's handles hybrids. I believe I was told yes and the person ( the owner ) stated they drive a hybrid Camery. Maybe I should have said "work on the electric side of hybrids bc I could have dropped it at Woodards 60 miles away but I'd rather pump money into a reliable, friendly place. Not sure I'll be back. This has been over a period of many yeas including today. Heyward has always been extremely nice and accommodating. I am a retired mechanical engineer (BSME 1969) and have always been impressed with Heyward's knowledge and diagnostic ability. If you see a negative review (about not keeping an appointment or calling) I'd bet whomever posted that was confused about who they had called since in my experience Heyward has always been very punctual and I can't believe he would fail to call anyone he had an appointment with if he was not able to keep it. Zigglers automotive stated the truck DID NOT need a bigger transmission cooler and engine menders only put 3 quarts of transmission fluid in my Allison 1000 transmission and split my transmission line! The VSC light, Anti-lock brake light, Power-steering light and word BRAKE showed up on my dashboard 3 weeks ago, so I took my Toyota to the dealership Midlands Toyota on Killian so they could tell me what was going on. After charging me $167 to run the diagnostic test, they told me that the Brake Master Cylinder and brake booster pump assembly needed replacing to the tune of $4,400. I asked the representative if this was covered under recall or warranty. He said no. I called later that same day to Midlands Toyota to ask the same question in hopes of getting another representative who would actually look. I was told no--it wasn't covered and that I'd have to come out of pocket for the cost. I called a family friend and mechanic and he recommended Chapman's Auto Tech. I went over there and talked to Mike. I showed him the diagnostic from the dealership and asked what would they charge me to replace these parts. He gave me a lower estimate for the total job. Not only that, Mike and Robert (the owner) told me that they have a year warranty on parts AND labor. I left my car with Chapman's Auto Tech. While waiting for the parts to come in, I got a call back from Chapman's. Robert asked me if I was sitting down. He told me that Mike took the time to do some digging and made phone calls to Toyota. Sure enough, the whole job WAS COVERED under the warranty. He found it written plain as day in the Customer Support Program. It seems to me that someone at Midlands just wanted to skim $4000+ from me instead of doing their job and honoring their own Customer Support Program. Chapman's Auto Tech could have done the same, but these guys actually mean what they say when it comes to customer satisfaction and being an honest business. Chapman's has been in business over 32 years. Seriously, if you have car troubles in the Columbia Midlands area, try Chapman's Auto Tech first. They really are good guys.
