Any time I'd ask about testing for something based on my symptoms, he'd say I didn't need it. I'd insist. He'd test me. And each time, I was right. Women know their bodies. When I started menopause I opted for an outpatient procedure to alleviate my symptoms. The anesthesiologist brought in for the in-office procedure couldn't find a vein to use. He ended up sticking me 27 times in both hands and arms. I was in pain and angry so they rushed things along so I wouldn't back out of the procedure. I was also told the procedure would cost me nothing. His office manager messed up. Later she said I owed $3000. Or maybe they knew that up front but decided they'd trick me into the procedure - then bill me for it. I have no way of knowing but I surely don't trust them. Oh, and once I had the procedure, they never called me to check on me. And they never called again to see if I wanted to schedule my annual checkup. I was no longer valuable to the practice, financially. I switched my OBGYN care to my internist after that last debacle and that was an awesome decision for me. I only wish I'd don't it much sooner.

I've found out from my new gynecologist the surgery could have been avoided all together and my issue was resolved with simply increasing the frequency that I take my birth control to 365 days a year. I was called back from the waiting room and placed in a small, dirty, area (old, crooked, posters and handwritten signs on the walls, vials of blood two feet from my face sitting in a tray) where a girl took my height and weight, then asked about my medical history. When I saw the doctor (30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time), she was also unfriendly, and was not willing to listen to me or allow me to participate in making any of my healthcare decisions. It was almost like she was trying to be confrontational for some reason, and this was my first time seeing her. She was dressed in jeans and dirty tennis shoes. I'm all for casual workplace attire, but this, much like her whole demeanor, came off as unprofessional to me, especially when I was dressed in business attire and on my way to work. Overall, with so many other doctors to choose from the the area, I wouldn't go back to someone who disrespected me like Dr. Mehta did. If you're looking for a new PCP, I would urge you to look for someone who is kind, caring, and a good listener, someone who wants to work on your medical problems with you in a constructive, collaborative way. She had a major hematoma on her head and her eyes were glazed over until her death 15 days later. Mind you this is the same day my father died whom I loved more than anything. Two days after the first fall she was pushed and her hip was fractured. The 15 days my mom was in their care before she died was filled with pain and abuse.
