Staff (night…read moreteam member Ahm** and manager Den***) are horrendous and displayed incredibly racist behavior, as an AfAm woman visiting the UK for the first time. Den*** specifically mocked me by snapping his fingers and rolling his neck around like a caricature (I speak with my hands) in our dispute over the quality of my room. A truly, deeply traumatizing experience that almost ruined the beginning of my vacation in London. Thank goodness for credit card purchase protection. Long Version: I checked into this hotel at around midnight and immediately experienced rude and dismissive behavior from Ahm**, the night team member. The hotel itself was in poor condition, with mold, dirty floors, exposed dishes in low cabinets, packing tape over the baseboards, sticky traps in kitchenette. By 1am, I saw a mouse run into my room. Let me tell you: this mouse was not scared and had been there before. Lights were on, noise was being made, water running...ran in like nothing was happening. Ran in the room like, "hey bunkie". Finally ran back under the door to the hall when I stomped toward it with my foot. After notifying Ahm**, he literally said "right yeah, so what do you want me to do about that." He refused to move me to a different room until the manager arrived in the morning. By 2am another mouse appeared, and despite multiple requests, Ahm** laughed off the situation, AND CALLED THE POLICE when i rightfully expressed frustration (I wasn't yelling or physical in any way). The police say to me, "I understand you don't want to be here. He's refusing to give your money back. There's not much you can do other than go to a different room". I tell them that's what I asked for in the first place!!!!!! They asked Ahm**, "why don't you just move her to a different room, it's the least you can do". He insists there aren't any. They ask him to check again. MAgiCallY, a room appears, and we sleep there for the night. In the morning, I call the front desk looking for the manager. Front desk woman tells me, "you need to leave that upgraded room immediately. You didn't pay for it, and there are guests that need to check in there. The manager isn't here". I go outside and ask the cleaning staff (who were truly the only polite, friendly employees at the hotel) is the manager here? The lady says, "who, Den*** ? Sure, he's downstairs in his office." Den*** says, "you've been reported by the night staff making a drama at reception, which we do not appreciate." He told us that we would only get a room of identical quality in the same building infested with mice, and "zero refund of any kind". He concludes "I will make it very very hard for you...your drama has not paid off". This statement came after he cartoonishly waved his fingers around and twisted his neck in a circular motion, to mimic the archetype of a ghetto Black woman. Needless to say, I had to make last minute alternative arrangements at another hotel, incurring additional expenses. Despite attempts to contact corporate (you can't) I received no apology or refund from NOX. If you are a person of color, a woman, ANYTHING, stay away. Go with a reputable, big name hotel and save yourself the abuse. I ended up dealing with this crap for months after my trip to recover my money from my bank. We took the train into the King's Cross station, where you can take the bus or walk over. And there were nights we came back from the Angels station. And finally when we left, we left from Pancras International which was across from King's Cross Station. Upon check in staff was nice, checked if we had food allergies, and gave us their delicious Doubletree cookies. We were given a 1 bed room on the 5th floor, which is their top floor. For my friends in the states, this is equivalent to the 6th floor because in London the first floor is 0 or ground floor. The elevators, or as they call it, the lifts were small in space. It can fit about 4-5 people without luggage or maybe 2-3 people with luggage. I liked that you needed to scan your room card to access the elevators, but I didn't like how our cards kept getting deactivated. Staff told me it can't be near phones or credit cards or it will deactivate. Pretty silly cause the card is card size made for wallets. I have been to many hotels and even many DoubleTrees all over the world, and this was the first time my card deactivated, and multiple times, during my trip. As for the room, it was very tight for 2 people. It would still be tight for one person. There was only one side table. Barely any space for 1 piece of luggage. The bed was hard and the pillow was flat. The TV only had local channels and the guide didn't even display what the channels were. Other hotels I have been to lately all have streaming options these days. There was a mini fridge that wasn't too cold and a blow dryer. The bathroom was so cramped it was hard to maneuver around. Barely any counter space. Good thing I have a hanging toiletries bag to give myself extra space and prevent my belongings from getting wet. Overall, the location is the main selling point about this hotel. Being walkable to nearby main stations is important when travelling.

The studio was compact with usable water pressure in the handheld shower. There was a bottle of body wash cum shampoo along with a mini bar of soap inside the loo. The closet featured a digital safe along with an extra blanket and ironing board. The kitchen was fully equipped with crocket, hood, convectional oven, and mini fridge. There was also a glass bottle of water along with a small biscuit on the kitchen counter upon entry. The staff also left a personalized computer typed note welcoming me along with a few mini packs of Jelly Bellies, a nice touch. The TV featured mainly British channels with little to no International Business channels that I could locate. There was also Chromecast that was integrated with the TV. The bed was comfortable with a relatively firm mattress. The windows were able to be opened and would disable the A/C. Wifi was complimentary and reliable The Laundrette in the basement was scheduled using the app and had wipes next to the washing machine. A £5 load of laundry includes detergent and conditioner dispensed from the machine. The dryer was £4/load. Reservations for the single set of machines are done via the WeWash app. There's also a laundromat directly across the street too. The serviced apartment was very close to the Barbican tube station, a mere 3 minute walk. There are also grocery stores, cafes, and barber shops along the way to the station too. This last visit, though, Moiz went above and beyond. I'd had my phone taken right out of my pocket in Picadilly Circus, and he was incredibly helpful in not only putting me in contact with people back home so no one thought I'd fallen off the face of the planet (and got some suggestions from someone who'd experienced a similar situation in the past), he also printed out a map and directions for me to use the next day so I could get a replacement phone from a shop near Covent Garden. If you're looking for luxury - this isn't the place for you. If you just need a home base that is safe, clean, comfortable, and has a fantastic staff, though? It' wasn't the apology that stood out to us, it was the fact that we genuinely saw how apologetic he felt about the mishap and how hard he tried to fix our issues. The very next day we were upgraded to a bigger room. Not only did he ensure our stay was perfect but he answered all our questions, helped us get transportation to the airport, and recommended so many great restaurants around the area. I truly can't thank him enough for all his help and the professionalism he showed us. The staff and our stay here was fantastic and I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

Because we had reservations for other attractions in the morning, I wasn't able to report it to the staff until I got back in the afternoon. They immediately denied having any bug issues and instead said I should go to the pharmacy to get the bites checked out. Thankfully the staff moved me to another room and arranged for the room to be inspected. I was later told no bed bugs were found. However, that does not erase the fact that I experienced unexplained bites and lost sleep because of it. That night after my room was changed, I was also awakened by a late-night call from a manager discussing the inspection, which further disrupted my sleep. What was most upsetting was how I was treated afterward. I made multiple attempts to speak with the manager, only to repeatedly be told he wasn't available. When I finally spoke with him, I explained how significantly this had affected my stay and asked for consideration for the two disrupted nights. The hotel ultimately refused to compensate me for even one night. The only gesture offered was to cover my car to the airport. The issue wasn't simply whether bed bugs were found. It was how I was treated after something happened to me. My experience in London was overshadowed by being constantly itchy from the bites and frustrated by repeatedly feeling ignored. I expected a four-star hotel to show much more empathy and take responsibility for the impact this experience had on a paying guest. There were so many glowing reviews from other guests so I was especially surprised by how poorly I felt I was treated. I came to this hotel expecting a welcoming, respectful experience and instead left feeling dismissed and unheard. That contrast was deeply disappointing. I would not stay here again.
