I bought it when I was 25, but 8 years later I was divorcing my husband who had been abusing me, and who was convicted of stalking me. Larry Martin was recommended to me by my church at the time- a church that promoted women being submissive to men. Larry acted so judgmental and pompous. He would roll his eyes, cross his arms, and sigh during interactions with me. He would hold his chin up high and look around the room avoiding eye contact or even looking in my direction. He always seemed busy. He acted like I was taking up his time, like I was a nuisance, like he was better than me. I was always polite and respectful to him. I apologized profusely for asking questions. I never called his office, requested meetings, or took up extra time. I filled out paperwork on time. Yet he acted like I was disgusting. While filling out paperwork to close the property, I was trying not to cry but a few quiet sobs escaped me. He sat stone faced across from me, sighed, and rolled his eyes. There were never any words of comfort, never any condolences, never any prayers. Just displays of annoyance and superiority. I would never recommend Larry Martin to anyone. Even though it's been 12 years, I still see his signs around town and they remind me of how small Larry made me feel. I referred my boyfriend to his company in a nearby town because he loved my apartment so much. When we moved away from Michigan, we were really sad to move away from these properties because they truly valued their customers. The communities were very clean. The maintenance employees were friendly and approachable. I think the only thing I would have changed was the lack of a dog park. However, there were many walking trails all around, which my dog loved. We often saw deer right next to my apartment. The squirrels were also a nice window distraction for my dog. Still, I think the best part of the company was the management team. Claudia was the best! We would walk in and Claudia would always greet Sunny and give her a treat. The fact that Claudia knew her name was an added bonus! I remember when I moved out Claudia had everything set up for me to break my lease early. The day I moved there was someone else helping and they seemed confused as to whether I had paid my fee to break the lease. However, Claudia immediately handled it and clarified without issue. I hope Koetje NEVER let go of Claudia because I don't know what you guys would do without her in this property. Her commitment and hard work are evident every step of the process. Her thoughtful demeanor also results in a pleasant transactional experience. The thing we really liked about her is her pro-activeness - we are typical paranoid first time home sellers and had a lot of doubts/questions at every weird hour of the day; she would respond to our questions/emails/text messages within 15 mins ; be it morning 7:00 AM or night 11 PM.
