    Chicken wings

On a Friday night the music at this place is rocking (but not so loud you can't maintain a conversation). The average age of the clientele is probably around 40-45 and much more yuppie/dinkie than hippie. Staff is generally pretty friendly and the atmosphere is good. Review of eats and drinks: Chicken wings - Great Pizza & quesadilla - OK Croquettes - Surprise (we expected potato-y, but they were chees-y) If you're tossing it up between "margarita for 2" and the mojito jug (both in the low $30s): both are good, but the Cubans win this handily based on quantity (2-3 times as much).

Nice atmosphere and their service is great. The place looks amazing and there is a decent amount of seating. The menu is what let's this place down. For the style of bar I'd expected a better spirit selection and the night we were there the food wasn't worth the money. Although they did say they were in between chefs at the time.

    Cool bar with sweet lighting

Great atmosphere and descent bar food. I tried the pizza, meatballs and the quesadilla and thought they were all good eats. Unfortunately the pitcher of mojitos was very weak and tasted aweful. Ordering is done at the bar, so find a good seat either inside or outside and then head over to the bar to order your food and drinks. The food runners will find you and deliver your eats.

A quaint little place on James street

A quaint little place on James st with yummy American food and a fully loaded bar. Unfortunately the service was a little bit slack. We ordered our food at the bar and that was quick, however when o went up to request some water I was left standing there looking like a ninny for about 5 minutes despite the place being empty and two girls on staff. The food was relatively slow coming out despite the fact that we were the only customers. Not sure if I'd go back based on the fact that it was lunch time and we had to wait for 20 minutes for fish tacos and blackened chicken salad. Oh and the chicks at the bar.

Wow, went to At Sixes and Sevens for lunch today and loved it!! Had never been before (I know, unbelievable) so didn't really know what to expect (apart from it being funky). Well funky it was, and many other things to boot. The interior was very groovy. The service was prompt and friendly. The house Sav Blanc was really delicious. And the share plates were to die for. We ordered 4 between 2 of us and it was plenty of food. We got the spicy chicken wings with chipotle sauce, the haloumi salad, the meatballs, and the croquets. Yum yum and double yum!! All 4 plates came to just over $30, so it's extremely reasonably priced. If you want the place pretty much to yourselves, follow our lead and go for lunch on a Tuesday. Enjoy :)

It's a semi-fancy-ish bar & restaurant and only offers a wide range of drinks (of course), but also has some delicious food you must try. The menu lends itself to sharing with small & large plates on offer, but if you're feeling hungry, you can have it all for yourself. Small share plates range from $8- $22, & large share plates range from $22-$42. We highly recommend trying the Pork & beef ragu pappardelle ($24), and the pan fried house gnocchi with guanciale, lemon sage & truffled peccorino. These two dishes were so heavenly. The pork & beef ragu was so tender & full of flavour, & the Pappardelle pasta was amazing. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly;light & fluffy like clouds. The pecorino & guanciale gave the right amount of saltiness, & the beautiful addition of the lemon sage was devine! Yum, yum, yum! We also ordered a side of the sweet potato wedges with taragon aioli. This is a MUST! So tasty! Service at the time was a little mixed, but it was only their first night, & it improved as the night wore on. We love what they've done with the place, especially the Frank & Mimi mural, & some old pinball machines near the bar. We unfortunately were way too full to fit in dessert, so we will definitely be back!

Very decadent and can even be shared if you aren't feeling too greedy. The coffee is yummy and service is excellent. The moment you signal that you're ready to order (sailing a little flag on the boat which decorates the table) the waiters swoop in. It's nice because you aren't heckled or bothered like in the USA. When you are ready to order, the mast goes up and the service comes running. The restaurant is pretty loud because of the concrete floors, so I try to avoid it on the weekends or grab a table outside if at all possible. We visited early one weekday morning for a lazy breakfast at the new kid on the block. I selected from a large menu which unfortunately didn't identify which dishes were gluten free. The staff were very happy to help however, and advised all of the breads could be substituted with gluten free versions so I could satisfy my toasted sandwich cravings. I opted for the Truffled Cheese Toastie with gruyere cheese and truffled salsa. It was presented on a wooden board with fresh greens and red onion to help liven it up. My beverage was aptly named "Sunshine" and contained a mixture of pineapple, orange, apple and strawberry. All up I paid $22.50 for my breakfast and was happy with the serving size and quality of everything. It was fairly quiet at that point with most of Bulimba at work, but I can imagine it getting busier on weekends or Friday afternoons for after-work drinks and food. My toastie was golden and crunchy and the truffle filling was gorgeously decadent when paired with the copious amounts of gruyere. Surprisingly I ate all of the greens and found they helped avoid getting overwhelmed with the big flavours on my plate. The juice was fresh with just the right balance between the fruits and was definitely filling for what I paid. Service was friendly and accommodating and the food arrived quickly. As we were paying our bill I noticed an array of baked goods in the front cabinet with some interesting looking gluten-free options. I think I can see at least one other visit to Ambrosia & Co in my future..

Don't worry, she assured us - it would take a little longer but it was on it's way, and we were OK with the apology. It happens. After everyone else finished and there was no sign of the remaining meal, I went up to the counter to find out how far off it was - they had no idea about it. They pulled up the receipt and flatly told me it had already gone out. I explained the conversation I'd had, and that it had been taken to the wrong table and that we had been told it was on the way. The response I got was "well, why did someone claim your meal?". Basically, I was treated like it was my fault. Staff begrudgingly agreed to "sort it out". A few minutes later after seeing several staff in conference, I had another follow up visit at the table telling me they were preparing a meal for us (I guess that wasn't a given before that, I really got the feeling they felt like they didn't think I was entitled to have received what I paid for). I flagged that we had ordered on the QR code and it should have come to our table, we were given an excuse about their QR code system and the table numbers being confusing. I consider that to be an operational issue and entirely their business, not mine. After everything, the meal eventually arrived, and I did get an apology ("we just don't know how this could have happened"), with no other good-will gesture of any kind offered to us. The attitude was that they were doing us a favour to just bring us the meal at all. Since the meal was over an hour late, and then we had to deal with having a finger pointed at us for their own issues, it really soured the evening. I certainly will not be back. I would definitely warn anyone else against eating here, and to consider one of the plethora of alternative options along Oxford St. I didn't think customer service could get this bad, and you shouldn't take a chance eating here.

I stopped in for lunch and dined solo mid-week. Despite being school holidays it was relatively quite. This is definitely a place that needs the atmosphere of many diners to make it feel like (what I imagine) a true Honky-Donk American bar would be like. The waitresses on duty were so lovely and polite. She explained the flag system they have. Just pop the flag atop the menu holder and it signals to them you would like to ask them a question / order / ask them the meaning of life. This worked fairly well with but a handful of patrons, but I do wonder how it goes when they're at capacity. Defeating the very purpose of dining in an American-style venue, I ordered the Mad Dog Tortilla Salad - grilled chicken, mixed lettuce, smoky bacon, tomatoes, avocado, corn, beans (green), goats cheese, sour cream, house made dressing and tortilla chips. It's a hefty salad and it's probably an illusion to think it's remotely healthy, but I did figure it was more virtuous than a burger or hoagie. As far as salads go, it was filling, a good balance of all ingredients but, and this is entirely personal preference, something this robust needs to be served in a bowl not a silver platter. It's just easier eating. All in all: a solid addition to Bulimba and gives them a part of the Brisbane fixation on US-style eateries.

I pursued the menu and the first thing I thought is "YES 'MURICA!" Eager to try them out, I mentioned to my DH when he was finally 'settled in' (and in the midst of removing his shoes) that I'd like to get drinks to 'celebrate.' He put back on his one shoe, and off we went! We ended up sharing a 'Southern Special' 10 Hour Braised Brisket with our chosen sweet potato fries and Bourbon glazed carrots. There's a few of those specials (it's on the second to last page of the menu, just after the BBQ page) - reasonably priced and they come with two sides. I'm not a big meat eater, but daaaammmn that brisket is fiiiinnnnne. And naturally, I came for the drinks - I got the Chipotle and Grapefruit margarita -- perfectly sea salt rimmed Mason wide-mouth jars. Yummily sweet with a nice heat at the back of the throat. I winkled my nose at my DH's choice of Long Island Iced Tea, because I was being a snob as that drink was my 'young, stupid, cheap, and often watered-down preferred drink' - but I am pleased when I tasted it -- good mix and definitely not watered down (just don't let the ice melt, k?). We also ended our meal sharing 'Mum's Milk Punch' (my original desire for one of their Chocolate Peanut Butter milkshake was denied by DH - he's looking out for me). I enjoyed looking at other people's meals, and had a giggle when I glanced at a pretty lady taking a bite out of one of their German hot dogs (...sorry, I know.) In all, we have been impressed, especially as it is a sister restaurant to La Quinta next door (we weren't terribly impressed with the food there). They have the same ordering system where when you're ready to order, put up the flag on the Longhorned cattle head at your table.
