We walked a couple of blocks and were impressed with the California feel about the place- definitely living up to its name! We walked in and were greeted by the hostess, they have tables outside, and we chose to sit there. The menu is a QR code. I ordered drinks, and then we ordered a couple of appetizers. The drinks and food came quickly, and we had was excellent! There was a big office Christmas party happening near us, the huge platters of food looked amazing- I would LOVE to have a Christmas party here! We came back a couple of days later with some friends and had another great meal. Service was great, although using the online menu takes away some of the personal touch, but the staff were still attentive to our needs. Chicken fingers were awesome, as were the wings and the fries- crispy and delicious! My wife said the tacos, while not up to California standards, were still excellent. Highly recommended just for the vibe!

Came here on a Thursday night for dinner - it was busy but a table for two was found and menu in our hands in no time. Drinks order taken and quickly the drinks provided - usual beer selection with some local craft options, includes cider. We went for the pasta - creole style and it did not disappoint - the taste was just right. Dessert and a coffee topped off a good meal. Found opposite the Johnson Art Series Hotel - it too convenient to miss. Enjoy

The location is a bit out of the way, and characteristically open. They have some nice affectations, notably Crystal hot sauce and some New Orleans beverages. They can whip up a nice pasta dish, and offer plenty of customization options. I was quite happy with their mushrooms, and you can see them cooking stuff up fresh. Of course, that also makes for slow service on a crowded night, and the prices are a bit high for what it is. My other notable downside is that the menu just doesn't offer the range I might have hoped for; it's almost all pasta and pizza and very little of it is vegetarian. Not that this isn't a feature of New Orleans, but I would really have liked some red beans or some okra in there somewhere. It isn't a terrible restaurant, but I suspect it is no substitute for the real thing.

The…read moremenu is hearty and unless you have super-human eating ability you really won't be able to experience the best of the menu as a solo diner. Still with me? Okay let's begin. I stopped in for lunch and dined solo mid-week. Despite being school holidays it was relatively quite. This is definitely a place that needs the atmosphere of many diners to make it feel like (what I imagine) a true Honky-Donk American bar would be like. The waitresses on duty were so lovely and polite. She explained the flag system they have. Just pop the flag atop the menu holder and it signals to them you would like to ask them a question / order / ask them the meaning of life. This worked fairly well with but a handful of patrons, but I do wonder how it goes when they're at capacity. Defeating the very purpose of dining in an American-style venue, I ordered the Mad Dog Tortilla Salad - grilled chicken, mixed lettuce, smoky bacon, tomatoes, avocado, corn, beans (green), goats cheese, sour cream, house made dressing and tortilla chips. It's a hefty salad and it's probably an illusion to think it's remotely healthy, but I did figure it was more virtuous than a burger or hoagie. As far as salads go, it was filling, a good balance of all ingredients but, and this is entirely personal preference, something this robust needs to be served in a bowl not a silver platter. It's just easier eating. All in all: a solid addition to Bulimba and gives them a part of the Brisbane fixation on US-style eateries.

I pursued the menu and the first thing I thought is "YES 'MURICA!" Eager to try them out, I mentioned to my DH when he was finally 'settled in' (and in the midst of removing his shoes) that I'd like to get drinks to 'celebrate.' He put back on his one shoe, and off we went! We ended up sharing a 'Southern Special' 10 Hour Braised Brisket with our chosen sweet potato fries and Bourbon glazed carrots. There's a few of those specials (it's on the second to last page of the menu, just after the BBQ page) - reasonably priced and they come with two sides. I'm not a big meat eater, but daaaammmn that brisket is fiiiinnnnne. And naturally, I came for the drinks - I got the Chipotle and Grapefruit margarita -- perfectly sea salt rimmed Mason wide-mouth jars. Yummily sweet with a nice heat at the back of the throat. I winkled my nose at my DH's choice of Long Island Iced Tea, because I was being a snob as that drink was my 'young, stupid, cheap, and often watered-down preferred drink' - but I am pleased when I tasted it -- good mix and definitely not watered down (just don't let the ice melt, k?). We also ended our meal sharing 'Mum's Milk Punch' (my original desire for one of their Chocolate Peanut Butter milkshake was denied by DH - he's looking out for me). I enjoyed looking at other people's meals, and had a giggle when I glanced at a pretty lady taking a bite out of one of their German hot dogs (...sorry, I know.) In all, we have been impressed, especially as it is a sister restaurant to La Quinta next door (we weren't terribly impressed with the food there). They have the same ordering system where when you're ready to order, put up the flag on the Longhorned cattle head at your table.

Oh woooh wwooooh woooh for the longest time…read more... I have waited for the best rib joint in Brisbane. Ribs done the American way, meaty on the bone, tender oh so tasty, homemade BBQ sauce. You definetely need to book before you head here, I've tried going there off the cuff and no sir. They just don't have the space for stragglers. Probably a good thing, I had my tracksuit pants on. The onion rings are to die for melt in your mouth orgasmic, I can't even write a sentence there that makes sense because it's making my drool just thinking about it. The beef ribs, forget about it. You can't get any better. They are tender, and sauced with that homemade BBQ sauce, you just die. The buffalo wings... very spicy... thank god I got the mild ones, even they were a bit kick you in the guts peppery. My husband ordered the hot ones... yeah, I can handle it. Yeah right. There was no more ice in the ice bucket. So if you want ribs done the right way and want to try your hand in the American Buffalo Wings experience, this is where you need to be. Oh, and don't forget to starve yourself beforehand, it's a lot of meat. Not for the vegetarian and not for the faint hearted... literally.

Not only do they have a huge selection of craft beer, but they have this awesome cellar bar downstairs. They play some pretty cool beats on the weekends, and the staff are really friendly. In fact this is one of those places that is quite unpretentious, which is what I really like in a nightspot. Like many of the bars on Brunswick Mall, it has an outdoor area, with a designated smokers area (like a lot of the Queensland pubs) crammed into one corner away from all of the food. They have some pretty awesome meal deals, as well as a vodka bar - in fact they have three separate bars. Okay, maybe this place doesn't get as crowded as some of the other places in The Valley, but honestly, that suits me just fine.
