Although the interior is modestly decorated and laid out in a simplistic wooden and tiled style, you're spoilt for choice with the food as you can sit at the bar and watch the chef cook the hot dishes Teppanyaki style in front of you or sit at the back at one of the small tables for a more intimate feel; perfect for date night! Special mention for the yakitori skewers which are particularly tasty and something I always have to order when coming here! The price is very reasonable and whilst the staff are mostly not Japanese, they know their stuff and everything I've tried here tastes great and full of flavour. They lose a star only for the fact that on a few occasions when I came for dinner there were a few things on the menu that I always get that were no longer available to order which shouldn't be the case with a busy restaurant. After 1h 15min, staff swooped in to clear plates -- while one of our friends was still eating. And they still charge a service fee for this? There are two sittings for omakase each day, one at 5:30PM and one at 8:30PM. The interior is very intimate and each sitting serves 7 people only. Bookings are made at least two weeks to one month in advance depending on their policy which changes from time to time. They only accept reservations through phone calls and based on my experience, it was pretty hard to get through so I'd definitely recommend reading through their website for what to do to secure yourself a reservation. My friend and I both got the sushi & sashimi omakase, which comes with three plates of sashimi, 7 pieces of sushi (all seasonally selected!) and a sweet tamago at the end. The sashimi and sushi are all seasonally selected and exotic! I got to try gurnard and turbot sushi which I've never had raw before! The fish is not only high quality and delicious but prepped and presented beautifully too. The variety of condiments selected for each sushi was carefully thought out, elevating each mouthful. The service was impeccable as was the food. The chef's wife and the waiters always came to check-in with us and walk us through the proper dining etiquette. Under the chef's wife's recommendation, we also shared some sake and plum wine. It was lovely watching the chef prep and make each piece of sushi, exhibiting his intent and passion with every movement. The whole session lasted a little over 2 hours and we enjoyed every bit of it! I highly recommend checking out Sushi Tetsu at least once in your life! Not to mention the omakase was only for £96 (excluding alcohol and any service charge), which is cheap for the amount of food you get and cheaper than many other omakase meals found in London.

I had a bite of my friend's beef yakisoba and she liked it, but I like yakisoba a bit drier and this was a bit saucy for me. The beef was flavorful but not the most tender. My udon was one of the best I've had. Clear broth that needed no added flavors at all and perfect udon noodles with the right bite. The tempura was very light and had sweet potato, zucchini, shrimp and a red bell pepper. Prices were decent and not terribly expensive for a Japanese place, considering the quality. If it were not as cold, we both would have tried their sushi.

Although not the biggest supermarket in Chinatown, I still tend to come here for my Chinese food…read moreshopping. They achieved a small measure of fame when they were featured on one of Jamie Oliver's cookery programs a few years ago. In fact, some of the best stuff is outside in the fruit and veg section. They tend to have a good selection of tropical fruits when they're in season. You can find trays of rambutan, mangosteens, mangoes and langsat. It's also an opportunity for you to come up close with a whole jackfruit and the infamous durian. It's the green spiky football sized fruit that is the notorious taste test as to whether you've truly embraced south east Asian food! You can buy the edible part in trays inside the supermarket - the soft flesh surrounding the inedible seeds smells strong and aromatic and tastes like custard but much sweeter and stronger. A tip for shoppers is that you can find trays of durian in the chilled cabinets at the back of the shop as well as by the tills. You can find the usual array of tinned goods, bottles of sauces, rows upon rows of instant noodles (Maggi are my favourite brand) and savoury and sweet snacks in the front of the store. Down some steps in the back are the chilled and frozen cabinets containing chlled edible goods as well as the cooking utensils. The queues have got much better since the introduction of more tills with barcode scanners. For those new to Chinese cuisine, I recommend some of the trays of sweet biscuits at the front of the shop or some sticky rice from the chilled cabinet. Perhaps a cook in sauce from the back of the shop that will beat anything out of a jar from Tesco. If you're feeling adventurous, try some thousand year old eggs or make your own wontons with some pastry wrappers from the chilled cabinets. However, my major tip is to try some mangosteens or rambutans when they're in season - they knock fruits from temperate climates for 6. Have fun!

If you walk to the back of the shop there are chopsticks, knives, woks and other cooking utensils. If you are a first time Chinese cook it's not a bad idea to pick up a few things to help prepare your meal. In addition to the cooking items you'll find a small selection of pre-packaged vegetables and a large variety of canned goods. The shop also has lots of Chinese sweets. They are brightly coloured and packaged, I've never had them, but I've been awfully tempted. New Loon Moon Supermarket is the perfect size for the first time Chinese cook. The size makes it easy to get around without feeling overwhelmed and the prices won't burn a hole in your wallet.
