Skip now to today. and with the help of good vision, a great plan and lots of money, the building is restored beyond the grandeur of its beginnings. Now up to earthquake code, and more it is a hub of city activity. The dome in the main lobby is world class, and even if you have no business to conduct at City hall, step in and enjoy the view. The ceiling is marvelous. There are 2 single room museums that depict tent city, and the earthquake rebuild. all done so well. A real city hall to be proud of.

You don't usually find art supply stores as complete as this little gem in towns the size of…read moreAtascadero. The ARTery (puns can be fun) may make most of its money from custom framing, but it is the art supplies that got my attention. If you're a painter in pretty much any of the main mediums, you'll find a rich selection of tubes and cans in a rainbow of colours here. There are stretched canvas' and even some wood panels, you have to special order those from Michael's. Run for the last 15 years by mother/daughter team of Bobbi and Zoe, The ARTery sits on a corner in an old style storefront in the vintage downtown area. Within its lath and plaster walls rest a large collection of coloured papers and drawing pads as well as lots of other art supplies and art-related knick-knacks. During my most recent visit, Zoe was giving a demonstration to one of her customers on how to use some liquid inks in alcohol. The mother/daughter team are happy to show you the technique necessary and even let you get your hands wet if need be. We are all artists and it's small art stores like The ARTery that bring it down to a local level, where it all starts. Take a short walk past the Carlton Hotel and browse the handmade card selection or maybe have a sit-down in the book section and flip thru The Big Book of Art. He never made her feel out of place and answered every question she had. He even gave us wine pairing suggestions and a recipe to try at home. Second and most importantly, I wanted to thank Toast Tours for a wonderful and memorable experience, from beginning to end. My Wife and I were making our first visit to the Central Coast, and decided that visiting some local wineries would be a nice way to get more acquainted with the area. I liked some of the reviews I had seen on Yelp regarding Toast Tours, as well as watching a a few quick YouTube vids before contacting them. From the very start, Kristina was a huge help. Thank you again. I conveyed some of what were looking to do on this trip, as well as our past experiences in Napa and Sonoma. Kristina did a masterful job of giving us options. Some more mainstream and like we have experienced before, as well as some smaller, boutique style options. Every question, she had an answer and suggestion for, and when we decided to book, I was confident in our choices. Toast Tours also takes care of the reservations, so that's one less thing to worry about as well. We chose to visit three wineries; Tablas, DAOU, and Ciento. All three were an amazing experience (I'll write more about those individually on their pages). I do want to highlight Ciento, however. This was a direct recommendation from Kristina, and they really stole the show. We would have never known or visited this wonderful winery if it wasn't for Kristina and Toast Tours. Our driver, Jimmy, was on time and extremely courteous. He has a wealth of wine knowledge, as well as local area knowledge, and he shared them in a fun and engaging way. He was a great help at each of the wineries, getting us in and out with our reservations, while also assising with our purchases. Thanks again, Jimmy!. The vehicle was clean and comfortable, and they provide water and some small snacks, if needed. Another thing I want to mention that was very nice as well is the price. While these types tours can be a bit pricey at times, I feel their rates are more than reasonable. Kristina itemizes everything beforehand, so there are no surprises. If you decide to make some small changes to the itinerary, Toast Tours will work with you, and give you the cost differential. Exceptional service from top to bottom, and I would gladly and confidently book with Toast Tours again..
