Unluckily, French had somehow messed up my membership, so EMAC didn't let me workout there but let my wife (we were only a family plan at French). I didn't understand it, but I have my theories about what French was doing. I didn't feel EMAC handled it well, but it's not their fault. So I tried EMAC, and really enjoyed it, so did my wife. It's a little smaller than French Riviera and LA Fitness, has less equipment than them, but definitely has the essential equipment you would need for your workouts. Everything from rowing, to oly lifts, to traditional weightlifting, to green space for crossfit or HIIT workouts. They even have classes that are included in the membership. And it's never too busy to find space or equipment to use. They weren't able to give me the same discount French Riviera did, so we are basically paying twice as much for this gym, but hey, that's life. I'd definitely recommend this gym to anyone in the area.

He handles everything from equipment repairs to cleanliness, and when he's on shift the entire place runs like a well-oiled machine. The locker rooms, showers, and sauna are always spotless. Equipment gets fixed fast when something breaks. He's even stepped in to help me access the hydromassage and tanning rooms when front desk staff stepped away for a moment. On top of all that, he's just a genuinely nice, personable guy who represents this gym well. I work out regularly in the morning on Mon-Sat each week and got a real lesson in how much Scott matters earlier this month. He took a day off (I think it was a Tuesday) and the difference between him being on duty versus not was impossible to miss. On that morning and the following one, before he clocked in, the locker room and sauna were a mess (water everywhere, hand and footprints on the tiles and glass, etc.), all of the trash cans (i.e., locker room and gym floor) were overflowing, paper towel dispensers were empty, and soap / cleaning agent bottles were empty. It genuinely reminded me of other gyms in the area where the facilities got so poorly maintained that I cancelled my membership. When I came back on Thursday, everything was spotless and professional again. I knew Scott was back before I even saw him on the floor. People like Scott are the reason members stay - give him a raise and a promotion!

I tried out MFK after buying a Groupon for their kickboxing classes... or so I thought. Turns out the Groupon was actually for their fitness boxing classes, which wasn't made clear to me until after I'd already taken two kickboxing classes. Whoops! Those two classes left me sore, drenched in sweat, and ready to do it again ASAP. I had A.O. as the instructor for my first class and Henry for the second class. They were both awesome. Neither of them let me fly under the radar or use the newbie card, which was fine by me. The music was great and everyone was so encouraging. Bless the woman who stood next to me during the second class and gave me tips the entire time! I'm kind of bummed they don't have a single-class/drop-in rate. I just can't justify adding another gym membership right now, but I'll keep them in mind for when one of my memberships run out.

I am a great example of…read morewhat not to do when it comes to fitness...6 months on, 6 months off, with a couple of intermittent running injuries in there. :-) ANYway, I walked into CrossFit Triad for the first time the Friday after Thanksgiving. After participating in 3 other crossfit boxes in Houston and in Memphis, I can say that the people working out at Crossfit Triad were some of the nicest people I have found in the crossfit environment. I have rarely had a problem with a Crossfit coach in my 3 years of crossfitting being rude or unwelcoming, but it has always been the people participating have always presented a challenge. There is always an intimidation factor. But the folks at Triad have seriously put together some of the nicest of people. If you are a first timer, or someone who has done Crossfit before but found it intimidating because of the people in the classes, Triad is a great place to go!! People are so great and encouraging! Coming back after an injury (this time around) has been challenging, but the people at Triad have made the transition pretty simple.
