This review is long overdue--and one I'm genuinely excited to write. I came to Athletico after two years of chronic pain from osteoarthritis and little progress elsewhere, just after shoulder surgery. From the start, Erik took the time to really listen and gave me something I hadn't felt in a long time--hope. He created a personalized plan that addressed both my recovery and lingering issues from past injuries. After recently having knee surgery, there was no other place I would go for rehab but here. What makes Athletico so special is the strength of the entire team. I was initially hesitant to work with multiple therapists, but it quickly became one of the biggest advantages. Brandon is like a detective, always asking thoughtful questions to find the true source of pain and then creating a solution. Eduardo, as an athlete himself, understands the complexity of the knee and brings both insight and empathy. Lynn wrote out a full set of stretches for me--completely unprompted--that I still use to this day. This time around, Jackie has been my lead--she's engaging, thoughtful, and makes every session fly by, while also having the knowledge that my condition may be more complex than just osteoarthritis. Abby, Natalie and Lana keep everything running seamlessly, and Max has been incredibly patient and helpful with scheduling. Every visit feels like a personalized training session, with a program that's always evolving to keep me challenged. I'm so grateful for the care and dedication of this team. Every now and again you encounter true professional, true masters of their craft and awesome in every sense of the word. Athletics and their staff are just that. Emily, Logan, Ivan and Tim are hands down some of the best in the business. In fact, scratch that, they are the best. Period. I started coming here in mid April to deal with an ankle injury. I took a nasty fall down some stairs and damaged my right ankle. I came here without much knowledge of Physical Therapy and didn't know, but I was blown away at how efficient and effective their plan was. My goal was to be able to run again pain free and not end up needing surgery. I was hopeful but had some doubts. Emily was my main physical therapist. I told her my goals, she set the plan and we went to work. She is incredible. Truly great at what she does and is an asset to Athletico. I cannot express how grateful I am to receive such an awesome care plan, treatment and help. Logan is great as well and would help me from time to time. Tim and Ivan are two incredible trainers who help you out with the exercises. Long story short...if you're looking for great Physical Therapy, look no further. Come see Emily, Logan, Tim and Ivan. I recently finished up 10 sessions at Athletico and the progress I made exceeded my expectations. I worked with Erik who is very knowledgeable, personable, and a great listener. I also worked with Josie once and she is also excellent. Actually all of the staff I encountered were great to deal with starting with Gina, the cheerful receptionist at the front desk. I also appreciated that Erik sent me off with home exercises I can continue on my own as needed which will help immensely going forward. This location is easy to access, plenty of free parking. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone needing physical therapy. read more

Maria K and the top flight staff at this Athletico branch provided excellent treatment and guidance to me following shoulder reconstruction surgery. Six months of therapy (shoulders notoriously take longer to recover) and I am in way better condition, probably better than before my injury. They listened to my concerns, reassured me when there was reason to be concerned or not, and always provided care with grace and humor. I learned many new exercises to do at home or the gym for continued self-therapy and my surgeon cleared me to bike and swim again near the conclusion of provided therapy. On May 20, 2015 I took a horrible fall after spinning out of a revolving door, down two steps an landing on my left elbow on the concrete. I totally "blew out my elbow"; tore all the ligaments and fractured portions of bone that made the inside look like a "constellation in there". After surgery under the extraordinarily skilled, Dr. Mark S. Cohen, M.D. at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush on May 28, I was referred to Occupational Therapy to begin in mid-June under the orders and watchful eye of Dr. Cohen. Having previously incurred two hip replacements, rotator cuff surgery, and a fractured ankle, all requiring physical therapy, there was no question that I was headed to Athletico. I was so fortunate to be placed with the BEST OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST, EVER, Angela Stevenson, a licensed OT with 26 years of experience. I was with Ang from June 19, 2015 three times a week until December 22, 2015. The patience, understanding, compassion, knowledge and skills that Ang shared with me have changed my life in many ways. She imparted her wisdom and educated me on the bones, ligaments and muscles that go into making an elbow and arm function. She helped me understand what had happened; what needed to happen; and what I could do to help myself. She even came to two appointments with me at Dr. Cohen's office. She wanted to be certain that she was doing exactly what he wanted, given the severity of my case. She made me laugh through my tears and had creative ways for me to exercise those parts of this hinge joint that I could never have imagined. Ang is the consummate professional; her knowledge, skills and attention to detail are further complemented by her kind, thoughtful and down-to-earth approach to patient care. We were both so excited when I could hold a hair dryer and attempt to move it around my head. Suddenly, we realized that while I could now dry my hair, I wasn't able to wash it yet! Funny, how much we take for granted and how we champion the slightest accomplishment; it is all part of healing! Historically, Athletico employs the most knowledgeable and skilled health care professionals in their areas of specialization; people who are truly committed to helping their patients reach their highest potential re: range of motion; strength, dexterity without injuring the part of the body that has already been compromised. I received quality care from Ang; a person who I swear had eyes in the back of her head to be certain that I did not injure myself further. There are not enough words to express my gratitude and respect for Ang as she brought my elbow back from disaster to a totally functioning limb. The "treatment" I received here was shockingly lazy, disinterested, and inadequate. I was referred by my doctor, whose office has a financial interest in the ATI/Athletico chain, for a hamstring strain. I attended two appointments before switching to Body Gears, which has been like the difference between McDonalds and a five-star restaurant. My therapist told me nothing during or after my "evaluation" that wasn't plainly obvious. She had her hands on my leg for a few minutes at my first appt and none at my second, at which she halfheartedly massaged the hamstring with a theraband. She gave me printouts of exercises I could have gotten off the internet at my first appt and gave me a little direction on my form. My second appt, she did the lazy massage for five minutes, then another client came in and she switched to her, telling me to do my exercises. The rest of the hour she gave me scattered, distracted attention (a third client came in at some point), while three other therapists stood around chatting with each other. My first appt at Body Gears, a therapist with a PhD in physical therapy spent a solid hour with her hands on my leg, explaining the whole time what she was doing, and then a student intern (near graduating with his own PhD) spent another hour with me teaching me exercises and monitoring my form. This was billed as a one-hour appointment. Same incredible thing at the next two appointments, as the main therapist had hands on me for an hour, and an exercise tech spent another 45 minutes with me. Billed, again, as one-hour appointments. In subsequent appts I got slightly less attention from the main therapist but was treated the rest of the time by the student intern, and then monitored close by an exercise tech as I did my exercises. Always at least 1.5 hrs (and I felt like I could have stayed another 1.5 w/o them minding), always billed as an hour. Oh, and when the bill came from Athletico (to meet my deductible I had to pay both Athletico visits and the first two Body Gears visits, so I have a direct comparison), Athletico's was significantly higher. Incredible. Really, truly unbelievable contrast between these two places. read more
