Every time I work with a health practitioner here, I feel SO MUCH BETTER afterwards. I've had the pleasure of working with Dr. Jim, Dr. Miguel, and Tom. I have had reoccurring neck and back pain that was eradicated on one occasion by Dr. Jim and the other with Dr. Miguel. Tom helped me address some significant tension in my shoulders that was causing a headache. I suffer from migraines and it could have turned into one, but it didn't. As someone in the medical field, I appreciate that these practitioners also have an impressive array of degrees and qualifications, which tells me they enjoy what they do. I visited River Forest Health & Wellness for the first time on 10/29. I won't lie, booking an appointment after 4:00pm isn't easy. I was able to book a 5:30pm appointment about 2 weeks in advance. I made it from Glendale Heights to River Forest in record time and was greeted by Dr. Nugent right away. He's very personable and took about an hour to talk to me, ask me questions, and check everything out. I loved how easy it was to talk to him and his laid back "groovy" attitude. I left with some homework to do for my lower back and knee pain, and I will be returning in about a week. So far, so good! read more

The Doctors are very kind, genuinely concerned about their patients, & eager to teach (not just treat & street). I say this because the extra time they spend is necessary & very impressive- but almost unheard of in this day & age. I also found their medical knowledge to be cutting edge. Dr Nugent is AMAZING!!! He worked me in at the last minute and gave me a great adjustment. I come from a family of chiropractors so I am very picky, and Dr. Nugent is top notch! He has recently added a massage therapist to his staff, I went in to see her the other day for a knee issue I was having. She is fantastic. Her approach to massage therapy is varied. If you are interested in a relaxing or deep tissue massage she can offer you those services. If you are like me, and use massages as a method of rehabilitation for sports injuries, she is very, very good at that too. I seriously love this facility. A few weeks ago I was in Chicago for a conference, sitting for eight hours a day. On Friday, the second day, I pinched something in my back, and was stuck hunched over for remainder of the day. The lady next to me gave me Jim's business card and said I had to go see him this weekend. He came back in to treat me after he already left office for the day, on a Friday! Unheard of! He did some goofy exercises with me, making me bend backwards and do the cobra yoga pose, nothing like the chiropractor did back home, but really didn't care if he could fix me. I would be lying if the pain was completely gone, but he definitely made the last day in Chicago a lot easier. The thing that I appreciated the most, is he took time to find someone I could see near my house that would practice and do things similar to what he was doing. Dr. Nugent pretty much cured my Sciatica after one adjustment and the strict suggestion he encouraged me to follow for a 1-week period. I went to many, many physical therapy sessions years ago attempting to fix this, along with other therapies and nothing else had worked. It was so refreshing to find someone who didn't want to just take my $$ - who put my health and needs first above his own pocketbook. He could have suggested that I come see him once or twice a week but he didn't do that - he gave me the treatment & guidance he knew worked and then sent me along on my way. Dr Strang was wonderful and an excellent support. I had back surgery 3 years ago and I was in great shape until arriving in Chicago. I had to lift up a 50 lb suitcase and my 26 lb granddaughter. After a few days I could barely manage the pain. Dr Strang was able to find my problem area and give me total relief after 2 sessions. I would highly recommend her and the practice. Saw Dr. Nugent a few times about knee pain that lasted over a year due to an injury. He is very thorough and precise about diagnosing. I also liked that he doesn't over-treat me by asking me to go see him three times a week for ten weeks. Instead, he taught me exercises I could do to relieve the pain. He has helped me tremendously. Recently tried the new massage therapist at the clinic Lily. She is so great! She gave the right amount of pressure on the right spots. I have tried *many* massage therapists around Chicago, and I am confident to say she is really great at it. I walked out happy and loosened. I recently switched from a job in which I was standing and walking for much of the day to a desk job. About a week after the switch, my lower backstarted feeling extremely stiff and I noticed I was lacking energy. I had Dr. Nugent at River Forest Health and Wellness recommended to me by one of the regulars at my local bar given the source of the referral, I was slightly skeptical, but it turned out to be an amazing experience. After giving me a screening, Jim (Dr. Nugent) adjusted my back and neck. The next day I felt so much looser and had wayyyyy more energy. While I was there, I also mentioned some pain I have been experiencing in my left wrist while lifting weights. I thought that it was a left over from an old sports injury. But after taking a look, Jim told me that the muscles further up my arm were the cause. My arm was sore for a few hours after he worked on the offending muscles, but the next time I went to the gym, I was pain free. If you're use to the churn and burn (assembly-line) chiropractic center, try River Forest Health and Wellness for a single visit and you'll see a big difference. I've seen a handful of chiropractors over the years due to a poor-form squatting injury several years back that led to severe disc-herniation. These guys are by far the most empathetic and personable. Not only are you going there to heal, but you also become a student. I am very young (19 yrs) and therefore was worried out of my mind about my newly developed knee pain. It was quite a mild pain, more like an itch. I arrived late (google maps the place before you go) but Dr. Jim Nugent was quick to give directions to the building and get me settled. During the initial consultation the doctor took me into a private room to ask about my history, the problem I was having, and do an initial evaluation. Once he figured out what was wrong (the result of a long untreated hip problem), he prescribed a series of simple exercises for me to do on my own. Because I am returning to school, he provided me with about six weeks of therapy in an hour! He also gave me his email in case I needed anything while at school. Vertigo is gone! I went in to see Dr. Jennifer for positional vertigo that I had been experiencing for over a week. At my chiropractic appointment, she asked questions and then, followed with massage and therapy. It wasn't right away but toward the end of the session when I became symptom free. Extremely well qualified and reasonably priced, he has the best equipment as well as something very special that makes the sessions fun and makes you want follow his instructions gung ho! Dr. Strang is THE BEST. I have been to multiple chiropractors over the years that were great but Dr. Strang is by far in a league of her own. Her approach is so refreshing. In my past experiences with chiropractors they would treat the symptoms (leaving you feeling great in the short term) but not always address the root of the problem. I sustained a neck injury that had me in debilitating pain and no range of motion and Dr. Strang was able to provide comfort and relief immediately while quickly getting to the root issue of the injury. I have a laundry list of things I need to work on so I plan on making my visits with Dr. Strang a regular occurence but I never feel pressured to book additional appointments like I have at other practices. Everything is on my terms with her gentle guidance. I call her "magic hands" because magic seriously happens every time I'm in her office. However her knowledge base and expertise in her specialty is unfounded. When working on an issue with me, she tells me more information than I could imagine that creates a lightbulb effect on issues I've been battling for years. If I could go to Dr. Strang for all of my medical care (which honestly, there's a lot she has great insight on, so I probably could) it would be amazing. Any issues I'm having that I throw out to her (mental, physical, digestive, etc.) she is able to draw connections between and provide insight and suggestions. Another thing I really like about Dr. Strang and the practice is they don't try to push additional services or sell you on supplements. I've noticed the top-of-the-line supplements on the shelves but never once have they even been brought up in a session. I've even inquired about acupuncture but Dr. Strang helps pace my treatment and focus on what is going to be best at the given time. When I was first looking for a Chiropractor in the area, I e-mailed multiple chiropractors to see who would work with my insurance. I must have e-mailed at least five practices and River Forest Health & Wellness was one of the few that responded saying they would work with my insurance. I felt welcome and comfortable the moment I stepped into the practice. It's nice, cozy, clean and professional. I never feel judged or uncomfortable. You can book appointments online and manage appointments easily if you have to reschedule and you get e-mail reminders. They have a wide variety of services and treatment methods. My hip started hurting either from laying on it wrong or because I sit at a desk for 9 or more hours a day. I figured it would go away and waited a couple of weeks before I realized I needed a chiropractor. I saw all the good reviews for this place, it was in network and quite close, so I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Strang. I had a bad feeling when she started out with "I'm not a typical chiropractor. I do biomechanics". It was a bunch of "Do this motion. Does it make it better or worse?" There was ZERO effectiveness but I was in pretty serious pain, whether sitting, standing, walking, so I was desperate and scheduled another appointment with her for the next week. More of the same with ZERO results. Dr. Strang's response was that I needed to go to my general practitioner for shots because this is a "chemical reaction". Sounded like standard crunchy granola crap. I found another chiropractor and it took a few adjustments and deep tissue massages but it steadily improved each time. I did go to my doctor shortly after starting treatment with the other chiropractor. My doctor advised that shots were not needed and to stick with the adjustments and massage. I was in pain for two weeks because I wasted time with Dr. Strang rather than going to a real chiropractor right away. read more
