The Troia Design Hotel is a lovely hotel but lacking several things that one would expect from a…read morehigh end hotel. For example, the fitness room had a water dispenser but it was empty, and there were no lights in the room so I could not workout after 5pm. Also, we had a full kitchen, but there were no plates or silverware. These seem like all easy fixes that should be included in such a high end hotel.
My main problem was the way in which a serious bike accident was handled by the front desk team. My family and I stayed for one night and rented bikes from the hotel the next morning. As I was climbing a gravel road, the tire spun out and I landed on my feet, but my front leg hit a wire protruding from the front tire. This wire should have been covered by a plastic cap. The wire hit my shin and tore my leg up which resulted in an emergency room visit and 6 stiches.
My children rode 3 bikes back to the hotel while my husband drove me to the ER. The 4th bike was hidden away from the street and the hotel was notified of the exact location of the bike and the accident that was the result of their neglegance. Later that day, the hotel receptionist, Inês Pinheiro, indicated that the bike was not located. I requested that they look again, sending exact GPS coordinates from the picture taken and requested a video call on WhatsApp so we could provide assistance locating the bike. Instead, the next day, they said the bike was still not found and I needed to call with a credit card to pay for the bike. Two days later, I had my Portuguese friend call only to find out that the bike manufacturer found the bike using GPS, but the hotel never notified me.
We did everything to help the hotel locate the bike, while the hotel staff took zero responsibility for their neglegance. The staff seemed young and inexperienced. I hope the hotel management will find this feedback useful and address training issues with their staff.
