My bf and I found this hotel via booking.com and stayed here for 2 nights in early June (Sunday -…read moreTuesday). It cost € 254.70 for a double room with a sea view, and breakfast was included in the room rate. PROS: - Hotel is nice and modern. - Friendly staff that speaks English. - Location is right on the beach. You can hear the waves from the room. Totally worth it to upgrade to a sea view room. - Hotel gives you fresh towels to use at the beach or for the pool. - Has both wet and dry saunas (a bit small though, can only fit 2-4 people). - Breakfast has cinnamon sticks with sugar on the tables, so you can put them in your coffee and/or tea. - Large variety of hot and cold foods at breakfast. Plenty of fresh fruit. - Free wi-fi in the room. CONS: - Swimming pool is not so nice. You cannot see the ocean from the pool. - Jacuzzi temperature is cold. Not heated enough in early June to use comfortably. - Shower only has a half-wall, so water gets all over the floor when you shower.

I agree overall with the previous rec- this hotel is great for the price due to the location: right…read moreon the beach with great views from the top floor. In general though, it's your basic budget hotel with no frills/ dated decor. We came in April (off season) and paid under a hundred euro for the night(!) but were told on check in that the pool was not available (the concierge indicated they told our "travel agent" - do those still exist? We booked directly..) as it is a cooler time of year we had looked forward to using the pool which is indoor, but settled for the hot tub. This was a "luke warm tub" at best, but we did enjoy the view of the sea immensely. The fan in the room sounded like you were on the uphill of a roller coaster but again, due to cooler weather we didn't have a problem.

Such a magical experience! We loved everything about our visit to this beautiful castle!…read more We stayed with our 4 year old twin daughters and 2 dogs. (It's also pet friendly!) I just cannot say enough about how happy we were with our choice to stay here. The dogs are accustomed to hotel living in the USA, and felt right at home and really enjoyed themselves. Everyone was so friendly to them, staff and other guests as well! The pet amenity was THE BEST ONE I've ever received at a hotel and the dogs have stayed in hotels for about 300 room nights across the USA and now Portugal. The twins loved staying in the castle and still talk about it. The room (we had a suite) was very spacious and perfect for our family of 4 and two dogs. We never had to ask for anything because the hotel just put things where you expected to find them at every turn. The breakfast was absolutely wonderful. The selection was great and everyone had something to eat regardless of their dietary needs or wishes. Dinner was amazing too. The twins had octopus and loved it! The servers were all so friendly and accommodating! The reception staff were all so friendly and helpful. They really made sure we loved every part of our visit. The views are amazing, the castle is amazing, and the staff is the best I've encountered so far in Portugal.

There was a quiet sense of peace on this side of the river, and is worth a half day trip out of town!

The Troia Design Hotel is a lovely hotel but lacking several things that one would expect from a…read morehigh end hotel. For example, the fitness room had a water dispenser but it was empty, and there were no lights in the room so I could not workout after 5pm. Also, we had a full kitchen, but there were no plates or silverware. These seem like all easy fixes that should be included in such a high end hotel. My main problem was the way in which a serious bike accident was handled by the front desk team. My family and I stayed for one night and rented bikes from the hotel the next morning. As I was climbing a gravel road, the tire spun out and I landed on my feet, but my front leg hit a wire protruding from the front tire. This wire should have been covered by a plastic cap. The wire hit my shin and tore my leg up which resulted in an emergency room visit and 6 stiches. My children rode 3 bikes back to the hotel while my husband drove me to the ER. The 4th bike was hidden away from the street and the hotel was notified of the exact location of the bike and the accident that was the result of their neglegance. Later that day, the hotel receptionist, Inês Pinheiro, indicated that the bike was not located. I requested that they look again, sending exact GPS coordinates from the picture taken and requested a video call on WhatsApp so we could provide assistance locating the bike. Instead, the next day, they said the bike was still not found and I needed to call with a credit card to pay for the bike. Two days later, I had my Portuguese friend call only to find out that the bike manufacturer found the bike using GPS, but the hotel never notified me. We did everything to help the hotel locate the bike, while the hotel staff took zero responsibility for their neglegance. The staff seemed young and inexperienced. I hope the hotel management will find this feedback useful and address training issues with their staff.
