I currently live in Silicon Valley, California, after I relocated to this area (following a brief stay) in Central Florida, back in 2021. I recently suffered through a series of traumatic life events, and so I attempted to reach out to Dr. Joel Shuy in my time of need. I wanted to to see if it would be possible to continue having sessions with Dr. Shuy, via telehealth appointments, while I'm living in the California area. Dr. Shuy was just as kind, caring, and understanding as he always has been. He permitted me to have sessions with him via long distance, and we've already met for several long distances sessions, via the phone, since I recently reached out to him. Dr. Shuy is truly one of the most gifted and knowledgeable Psychologists that I've ever had the pleasure of being a patient of. Dr. Shuy has helped me so very much in life throughout the years, and now again, he has helped me, substantially so, just in the few sessions that we've recently had. read more

There are psychiatric doctors and counselor's with different degrees at their locations. They will place you with someone who they think would benefit you. I've been going there for years and they helped me out of a really bad time in my life. I was depressed to the point I cried all the time and I wanted to die. My situation was just too painful. They got me through that with the right medications and counseling. I'm definitely ok now and I only go a few times a year, or whenever I need counseling. The front office staff are helpful and very friendly. One of the staff members writes a newsletter that is full of good ideas and things to do. I'd say give them a try. I'm glad I did. read more

This place is terrible. I have a relative who was a patient. His psychiatrist left the area so my relative is considered a new patient and they aren't accepting new patients. They were less than nice on the phone. The Nurse Practitioner didn't provide any accurate info to find another place. The Nurse Practioner was making an automatic assumption too that because my relative has a mental condition that he was the one who wasn't understanding and wasn't being compliant. My relative wound up in the E.R. because of the lack of response on their end. The front desk people also weren't nice. Their response was 'you just have to find a new office.' And I still wasn't understanding at that point why they couldn't see him since he was a patient. read more

This review isn't about any doctors I've seen, because I never really got to that part. My doctor sent a referral to this place so that I can see a psychiatrist. Normally when I get a referral, they get back to me right away. I didn't really hear back from this place for 10 days, not a good idea when you're dealing with someone's mental health. I was then told when I heard from them that NO doctor were accepting new patients. Then when I went to my insurance companies website to find another one, it said that doctors at this location are indeed accepting new patients. I'm not sure if you're allowed to add names on Yelp, but I'll just say that their reception, or customer service, or whoever answers the phone is EXTREMELY rude. So basically I just about 10 days of my mental health because this office is incompetent. read more

I have never left a bad review in my life before today, and I mean that. I called today to help my sibling schedule an appointment for a psychiatrist. The receptionist asked for my sibling to get on the phone to validate that I could speak for them (understandable), but when my sibling got on the phone the receptionist hung up. I called back, thinking they were disconnected, and the receptionist said "whoever was on the phone was trying to disguise their voice." She also told me my sibling had to call back on their own phone and hung up again. I called back a third time as my sibling couldn't make the call due to severe anxiety, which is the reason we were trying to schedule an appointment for a psychiatrist in the first place. I explained that my sibling is quiet, talks low, and sounds like me, I'm not trying to disguise my voice, and they are standing right here willing to talk. I was then put on hold and eventually accepted to the next phase, which was to be talked down to, asked confusing questions about insurance (receptionist didn't recognize the provider) and be told my sibling needs a referral to make the appointment (not mentioned earlier in the call, in fact the receptionist seemed willing to schedule before accusing me of faking my siblings voice). I did eventually take the phone back as my sibling froze. At that point I just said alright that's enough and hung up. I'm surprised because it looks like this has been a problem for years according to the reviews and nothing has been done. Unfortunately I can't speak for the Dr as we didn't get past that point. This office was recommended to me but I would absolutely avoid this place if you're dealing with anxiety. read more

Excellent! Dr Jacobson is a excellent Dr with exceptional knowledge of medication(s). Simply be honest, open and willing to listen and try hard to do what is suggested and do exactly as expected with your medication. If there's a issue call and speak with the practice Mngr immediately. They immediately will contact you back w a solution. He's a very easy person to talk/open up to. Besides the experienced, excellent care I've received by the psychiatrist I've seen at Atlantic Psychiatric, I have to applaud and offer my great appreciation for their new staff and approach to handling all calls and questions, etc made to each doctor working there, at every office in the county. This review was prompted by my third contact with a young man named Jorge, who displays particular expertise and courtesy gathering messages from patients like myself and organizing that information, as well as forwarding it immediately, to the physician in question. In particular, my calls have come when I've found myself looking at the empty bottom of a bottle of Adderal...quite a necessary medication in my situation! Fortunately, my psychiatrist is Dr. Jordan Brown, who provides excellent treatment and understands that I sometimes find myself in this predicament. And very luckily for me, I've found myself on the other end of the phone with Jorge...I don't think there's anyone more proficient in the very important service he provides. For many years I've received excellent care at the Atlantic Psychiatric office from Dr. Jacobson. I started at the Palm Bay office but changed to the Viera office. I live in Palm Bay but I'm willing to drive the 20 miles to Viera. I found the Palm Bay office too depressing. It felt like entering a dark cave and I found it claustrophobic. Don't go here. Enough said. Disorganized, chaotic office that doesn't treat patients effectively. Utter failure of a practice. They should lose their license, assuming they have one. This practice is owned by an absentee Corporation, purely for financial gain. Very sad that they take patients Insurance money and fail to help those in need. My daughter was supposed to have a therapist (court ordered) that was completely unbiased and knew nothing of what her father and I had to say, and we had a family counseling therapist in the same office and they were comparing notes, which is completely against the court order, and when we found out my daughter's indiviual therapist Sara J. McManus, LCSW said if my daughter didn't trust her, don't come any more. The family therapist George Burton, LCSW tried to argue with my daughter that it was not against the rules. The psychologist there Ethel S. Andrews M.D. is terrible, she only seems interested in putting my daughter in a inpatient facility, claiming she has made no progress, even though there has been plenty, like the fact she has not self harmed, only thought about it once but did not do it, has not attempted or thought about suicide, not been baker acted, but she refuses to listen and gets hostile if you do anything but agree with her. She was waving a clip board in my face aggressively and smacking it without letting me read it and calling me things like "baby" "honey" "sugar" and "darling" which I think is highly inappropriate. The office keeps poor records and keeps trying to give the wrong prescription with "no record" of the correct prescription, even though it had been prescribed the previous month. All the therapist there seem to think self harm and suicide are the same thing. They spend more time talking to the dad about putting my daughter in a facility and talking about my daughter's behavior when we were going here to improve her relationship with her father. They absolutely refuse to talk about him, if my daughter and I even attempt we are told we are lying, making things up, remembering wrong, or bashing her father and it is not productive. read more

Worst office ever went there for a consult for surgery waited over an hour filled out a lot of paperwork and then when I was finally called was told at that point they needed a referal I tried to call the surgeons office to get it but they where closed for lunch so now I have to start all over they knew this before I came in and should have told this to me I wasted my whole morning sitting there in pain all I could think was soon I can have this surgery and my pain will finally be controlled thanks to the office staff not knowing there job I am now stuck with a new Dr and it's not until the middle of July stay away from this office read more

Wife had an appointment that was scheduled for months. The Appointment was for 5:15 pm. Day before her son was put in the psychiatric ward at Wuesthoff Hosp. Rockledge. Very stressful time obviously. Visiting hours were only 5:30 to 6:30 pm..cell phones not allowed. Yes she could have reminded me under less stressful circumstances. Dr. Jacobson said he would not make another appointment..her problem. True..that is why she had an appointment with a psychiatrist. Obviously a very callous Dr...who has left my wife hanging without care.. As the saying goes, there is never a first time..He likely makes a habit treating patients in such a manner.. read more

I have called this office every yr several times a yr for the last 10 yrs hoping I could get a Dr to take workers Comp so I wouldn't have to keep flying to NY. I called again today asking for a statement saying I have been calling and they do not have any openings and do not take workers comp of NY so I can get reimbursed for my travel to NY . I have been going to this office since 2013 and I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with the Dr.'s and office staff. Very compassionate people and a god send for many that need psychiatry assistance. Dr. Jacobsen and Dr. Reffner are two of the finest men I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Pretty certain that negative reviews here are from people who are petty and ignorantly selfish it sounds. These folks deal with many patients and each case is different. The best in Brevard!!!
