This joint has its place in the Ottawa eco system. My favorite part is the room, full of interesting and presumably local art. Second fave is the live music. Perhaps not the best sound system, but enjoyable. Lots of people dancing. They do some karaoke nights during the week. They have a decent menu. I had the blackened chicken salad. The presentation was simple. It tasted better than it looked! Lol. I enjoyed it. Our waiter was right on top of things and a wee bit of a character. Service was great. read more

I've been coming to The Rooster for a couple of years now, the food is all quite tasty pub fare and the drinks are always great. I have yet to have service that was not excellent! On Mondays and Thursday nights they also have karaoke if that's your thing! And as a bonus Monday's are also half priced wing night and they're very tasty! They also support local artists by displaying their artwork for sale around the bar which is great. So if you're looking for a local pub I'd recommend this one. read more

I don't eat here often enough, and I should. It's my neighbourhood bar/bistro and all their food is great, and so is their service -- even when guests pinch hit for their wait staff. I sidled up this afternoon for a late lunch. I was by myself, which is unusual, and I was in the mood for something casual and friendly. This is the place. I was delighted to see the tables outside on the sidewalk were unoccupied and it was gloriously hot, so I walked in and asked the bartender if I could sit there. He said yes, but cautioned me there was a bit of a wait. No problemo. I sat down, and soon a chirpy cheerful server tentatively approached my table with a notebook in her hand. She declared to me that she didn't work there - or well, she did in the winter time when the construction season was slow - but today the bartender didn't show up, so the server was behind the bar and he'd recruited her, his friend who just happened to be in having a drink, to help him serve tables. After asking her name and joking that she could join me for breakfast if she wasn't busy, I ordered a diet coke and the eggs benedict. I couldn't believe how fast they came. I swear I only waited 5 minutes or so before a delectable presentation of eggs just how I like them and hashbrowns appeared. My bill, including a generous tip, was less than 20$ and I enjoyed my lunch in the sunshine chatting with friends and neighbours who happened to walk by. A true Bank street gem. read more

A neighbourhood pub with local artists' work on the walls and 60's jukebox hits in the air. :) Food was delicious! Loved the Eggplant Parmesan sandwich with sweet potato fries, and my companion enjoyed the Shepard's Pie. Bottomless fountain drinks for the win. Bathroom stalls painted beautifully. Only drawback was the upholstered bench we sat on. The odour was like a grandparent's basement -- a mixture of dust and old cigarettes. read more

The last time I went to Atomic Rooster was for brunch in person (but I didn't get a chance to write a review)! It was pre covid, and my friends and I ate in person. On really short notice on a Sunday during brunch, they were awesome and were able to accommodate our table of 8. I absolutely love their brunch because they have the traditional favorites AND beans (which you don't see a lot of anymore at other places!) I have tried the natasha, atomic benny and the crab cake benny (I love poached eggs with a good hollandaise sauce), and can't wait to go back for more. The natasha, which comes with smoked salmon, is a classic and they always have smoked salmon that has the perfect amount of salt to it to compliment the egg and hollandaise sauce. The crab cake benny, however is probably my favourite, as the crab cake is flaky, and crispy. I can't wait until they open up again and I can head back for brunch (which is really decently priced!) read more

Unexpected breakfast stop this morning. Doesn't even come up in the results when searching for breakfast, but we were walking down Bank St, saw a sandwich board informing us they serve brunch, and sometimes the nose knows. We had pretty standard breakfasty type stuff -- bacon, eggs, pancakes -- which was solid. Server was amazing; friendly, funny, talkative. The decor in the place was also a hoot. read more

I was in Ottawa recently and friends coerced us (which I'm glad they did) into going out for some Monday night karaoke at the one and only Atomic Rooster. After a few $5 king cans (Red Stripe)! and some much needed liquid courage a friend and I decided to perform the infamous "Africa" by Toto. As we approached the stage from our semi-hidden back booth I couldn't quite get over how intimate the setting was. The stage is front and center and all eyes are naturally drawn to it. This was definitely a new experience for me as the bulk of my limited karaoke exposure has been in private rooms where singers are all generally acquainted. After calming my nerves with a few timely swigs of Red Stripe enroute to the stage I settled in for an enjoyable rendition of Toto's classic. The acoustics in the Rooster were surprisingly decent and fellow singers were openly supportive which is always appreciated when treading in unfamiliar waters. When all was said and done and the damage was in I spent under $40 for approx. 6 tall cans and 1/2 price wings. The karaoke/wing pairing was definitely appreciated. However the wings were passable at best, I opted for honey-hot on the suggestion of a local and kind of wished I hadn't. I may be becoming a bit of a wing snob as I have been so utterly spoiled by the Wheat Sheaf, but as a wise man once said "it is what it is." For affordable fun in Ottawa you can't do much better than the Rooster, the local for-sale artwork on the walls was an added touch and staff were friendly and attentive. If you find yourself at the Rooster on a Monday night be prepared to give your vocal chords a work out. read more

I LOVE the Atomic Rooster - this is the best pub food in Centretown, hands down, a real reprieve from the zillion semi-tasteless Royal Oaks. The atmosphere in the restaurant is really great, from the custom painted tables to the local art on the walls to the service, it's all very quirky and unique. There seems to be craft beer, but I'm mostly excited that they have Somersby on tap!! And they know to serve it with ice. My favourite menu items are: The Atomic Club (but I always ask for mayo, as it's a tad dry without it - not a problem if you're trying to eat healthy though) The chicken fingers The fish and chips (which they only have on Fridays, as it's made fresh, which is great) Rotisserie chicken Chicken caesar salad wrap I don't think I've tried anything else yet. Oh, and the fries are TERRIFIC. Yum! The only possible drawback to this place is that if you aren't expecting it, the live music on some evenings can be a bit of a surprise - it's too loud to talk, so if you're going on a date and didn't check the calendar, you might find yourself unable to talk. I've had to change plans before when I walked in with friends and the music was just blasting, but that was our own fault for not checking ahead of time. So check their website if you're going in the evening and want to be able to talk, but if you want to go to live music on purpose, the Blues night on Sundays is really fun, as is the Open Mike (the host is very talented). This live music part is pretty awesome when you want it! Prices are standard for pub fare. This is a 4/5 star review only because the food seems a tad inconsistent, but it still only ranges from good to great, so it's never bad. Also I've had some sad days where the fries were portioned really unevenly between multiple people at the same table, but both of those things depend on who's in the kitchen I'm sure, and they might have been new? Oh, and they need a new sign!! I mean, it's kind of fun knowing of a great place that doesn't look great from the outside, but seriously Atomic Rooster, you could probably get a permanent sign. This is my local pub - the place I go for greasy post-drinking breakfasts and after work beers - so it's funny to see other reviewers say it's an older crowd. That's probably true, and I've somehow not noticed, but I like the vibe in here either way. There's often some form of entertainment/event happening (the best is when you accidentally stumble in on a Plenty of Fish mixer night and get to watch awkward hook-ups from across the room) and on the right night, it can be a lot of fun. The food used to be better. At one point a couple years ago, the menu changed and nothing tastes quite as "homemade" anymore, but the menu still has its wins. If you like dessert (and usually I don't), give the bread pudding a try - it's fantastic. The breakfast is pretty decent, and you can get a typical hearty $5 bacon/egg/etc on weekend. in all, standard pub with a step up in the form of entertainment - be it the live bands, awkward mixers, or breakfast hipsters. read more

Atomic Rooster is a gastro-pub located in the heart of Centretown. They offer a lunch and dinner menu during the day. At night, there's often live entertainment in the form of bands or DJs. Atomic Rooster's bar setting is very "old man". The ambiance features several flat screen TVs that show the hockey game and a revolving cast of mostly blues and rock bands. The majority of the patrons are white men, aged 35+. They occasionally feature drink and food specials which are advertised on a sandwich board outside. They do generally have a decent selection of domestic, import and micro brews. What I really enjoy about the Atomic Rooster is their inexpensive breakfast. They offer 2 eggs, potatoes, coffee and sausage, bacon or ham for 5$. They also have free wifi if you ask for the password. The service is generally great and you can usually find a table for the oh so popular Sunday brunch. read more

Excellent service!!! We were there as a large group for my birthday. They were very accommodating and allowed us to reserve ahead of time on Friday, which is rare for most restaurants. The servers were very pleasant and served the dishes in a timely manner. I had the burger, added bacon, cheddar cheese and caramelized onions. In my opinion, it is the best burger in Ottawa. The seasoning on the burger is delicious. It is must try. The atmosphere is wonderful. I love the art work on the table and the changing art work on the walls. The Atomic Rooster is EXPLOSIVELY AWESOME! I am somewhat of a regular at this place these days, and I have to say that I am rarely disappointed by their offerings. It has everything I like: 1) Eggs Benny brunch until 3 on the weekends (Actually, I order the Eggs Natasha with smoked salmon - Heaven!) 2) Monday night Karaoke 3) Unique entertainment like pro marajuana folksters and drag shows 4) Awesome artwork on the walls 5) Amazing and friendly staff Yes, it can be a bit hipsterish, so be on the lookout for black framed glasses wearing, half shaved head sporting, skinny jeans donning, too cool for school types. HOWEVER Every time I have an out-of-town guest staying with me, I take them here for brunch and they leave thinking that I am so hip and urban. But good view of the street with the large windows. Has a decent bar counter to sit at. Locals. I had a mango chicken wrap. Talk about confusing your tastebuds. I thought I was in the Caribbean after the first bite. It had chunks of mango in it. It was good. Good selection of draft beer. Ask for a drink menu if you are cheap. Live music Thursday nights. I am a big fan of the Atomic Rooster. Their support for craft beer is strong. As is there support of local artists. The taps and the art are in constant rotation. So there is always something to look forward to. Always love it when there is a new exhibition on the wall or a new beer to taste. My go to item on the food menu is the Atomic Special Pizza. Rivals some of the better pizzas I've had in the city. The Staff is great. It can get quite busy and boisterous @ lunch time but it's all worth it. read more

This is a great little bar with live music almost every day! Once we got a beer it was hard to get waited on but they staff was still extra friendly. Some great bands and some great food. We shared the dumplings which were top notch and tasted like they made them there. I don't recall what they were but one had chorizo in it. Very flavorful. We also shared a burger which had a great flavor but was pretty overcooked. No pink and a little dry since we ordered it medium rare. I think this may have been some of the worst pub food i have had. The menu made it looks/sound delicious, so I was extremely disappointed in the meal; it was burned, and soggy, and just gross. I spoke with the staff there and let them know, and they suggested I order something else, so I did - and then got the bill for both meals, despite the fact that the first was not edible. We went here for brunch on Sunday. After being acknowleged when we first walked in, we sat down and waited 10 minutes for someone to ask us if we wanted coffee. They brought us our coffees shortly after and took our orders. 30 minutes later, our coffees had run dry, and no one had even come by to refill our coffees or update us on the ridiculous wait time. Came here with friends as this is one of their favorite haunts, and was told that this place is "one of those places where you know it or you'd miss it". While the entrance was nondescript, I quite enjoyed the eclectic decor inside featuring the paintings of a local artist on the walls and painted tables that are works of art themselves. The service was friendly and quick on a quiet Thursday night with the restaurant not quite half full. Good selection of craft beers on tap. Unfortunately the food left much to be desired. My boyfriend's spicy chicken sandwiche was two chicken fingers (visibly charred at the edges) put between a hamburger bun. My grilled vegetable sandwich consisted of mainly sauteed onions with chunks of peppers and mushrooms barely held together by a limp hoagie bun which would've fared better if it had been toasted. The side salad with avocado cilantro dressing was bland, needed a citrus kick and more olive oil to give it a better consistency. This is a good place to hangout and have a beer; they have events most nights to keep you entertained (open mics, karaoke, etc.), but I wouldn't come back for the food. read more

They used to have damn good pub food but have recently changed menus and, probably, cooks. Some of the favourites are gone and have been replaced with things like "hot chicken," calling it a diner classic. It's one slice of white bread, chicken, another slice of white bread and everything soaked in gravy. It's a dish I know but would never order: My friend did, almost immediately pulled away the soggy white bread. She said she might order it again ... but would tell them to lave the bread behind. I ordered fish and chips and, apart from the strange tartar sauce (heavily and strangely overpowered with garlic), wasn't bad. But I could not get the greasy, greasy taste out of my mouth for the rest of the evening. I realized later they had breaded the fish (and not fried it in batter) and the breading had soaked up all the oil in the fryer. I'll go back, but I won't be having anything fried again. read more
