Wandered in on a very hot Saturday. The pub was busy but not super crowded. I liked the high top table near the window for people watching. We tried two of their beers - raspberry wheat and the kolsch. Loved the raspberry wheat. Regretting not buying any to take home. Menu has a nice selection of pub fare and Polish items. We shared the poutine and had it changed from fries to tater tots. Really large and delicious. We also tried the pierogies plate. Also tasty. It was great to relax and watch the bronze medal world cup game on the television. Prices weren't bad at all. Some of the beer here is great. The Wishart's Bitter, an English ESB, is my favourite. Wasn't keen on the others but I would return to try their IPA (they had run out). You can ask for samples before committing to buy a pint. The patio is nice and faces the evening sun, but the traffic on Bank street can be annoying due to loud motorcycles and buses. Food is mediocre. I had a fish&chips with too much greasy batter and fake fries. They should batter it more lightly and/or cook it longer, and serve fresh cut fries like I saw in the pics. The Texan burger was a much better choice, but you have to pay extra to upgrade the side. Fortunately the staff are friendly - bar man and waitress Jenn were very helpful. read more

We recently discovered Clocktower Brew Pub in Ottawa. We thought we had found the best Raspberry Wheat beer in Halifax until we tried Clocktower's version. It is simply the best around. Although it is described as a subtle flavour, we think the raspberry is very prominent and yet the beer still well balanced and not as heavy as some wheat beers. Though this keeps us coming back to Clocktower, we really have to address the fantastic customer service shown by Bill Lewin, General Manager at the Glebe location. Bill has gone the extra mile to keep us informed of stock of the RW (we are from out of town and make trips up to Ottawa to stock up) and to make us feel extremely welcomed at all times. On our last trip, we enjoyed the Supreme Burger and the poutine. Thank you Bill and staff at the Clocktower. Highly recommended!! read more

I would say that for the food you get the price is quite expensive. It is not a restaurant so don't really expect their food to be great, they are a beer pub so if you are looking a place to have drinks, then maybe you should try this place out - otherwise, don't recommend. read more

Had a California flatbread that said on the menu had avocado, which was most of the reason we ordered it. Got the flatbread, have some of it, and realize something is definitely missing. Asked the waitress what's up - she went from "it never has avocado on it" to "we're out of avocados". Only AFTER we discovered it ourselves and asked. It's a primary expensive ingredient and there was no heads up that the kitchen was out? We did get a (very) small discount on our bill, but this was only after we pointed it out and after we complained. Check your food to make sure you actually are getting what you ordered, I guess! Was visiting family close to the Glebe with the in laws and decided to check this place out. I never need much convincing to try craft beer. Reviews didn't look good but as they were handy and menu seemed generic enough to satisfy all tastes. We were shown to a comfy both which amply seated all six of us. Place is dark wood inside but the setting sun brightened it up. Balmy evening and all windows were open. I had called for reservations but we didn't need them; there were only a handful of occupied tables upstairs. I tried the beer sampler. They were out of two regular offerings. The waitress said something about getting a beer in place of the missing tastes but never mentioned it when I ordered my next drink. The beers were nothing outstanding for the most part. I wouldn't recommend this place on the beer alone. The oyster stout was passable. Others at the table liked the raspberry wheat. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. It sounded promising on the menu. Bit of a let down. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and cold in the middle. The meatloaf was dry. The " onion sticks" were canned fried onions that had been sprinkled on top. The green beans and turnip side were excellent; fresh and cooked perfectly. They had a $7 kid's menu and the waitress brought colouring stuff for the kids as soon as we were seated. Nice touch. That kept them busy for the rest of the meal. The waitress apologized for the cold spuds and removed a beer from bill to make it up. I would give the food and beer a 3. The service and atmosphere four stars. read more

Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon - hadn't been there in a couple years. Wasn't very crowded which was curious on such a nice day but I think I discovered why - mediocre food at best, and poor value for money. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf on the waitresses recommendation - ugh. The meat itself was passable, covered with a salty gravy and wrapped in a white, rubbery, bacon-like substance. Also a pile of salty brussels sprouts on the side. My wife had a protein bowl of some sort, including a large helping of wilted greens. My son had the $16 chicken strips - so there's that. Our waitress, though not unpleasant, was not terribly interested in our overall dissatisfaction. We wont be returning soon. read more

We have been frequenting the Clocktower for a few years now. We mainly go to the Glebe location, but have also been to the Byward market location as well. Most of the time the food is great - there have been some times where the food has been either over done or not cooked enough. Their specials can be very unique. This one week there was a Gatineau Surf and Turf which consisted of a whistle-dog, poutine and home-made fish sticks. It was delicious. Wing night is a great night to go out for cheap beer and wings. Be warned though - it gets really busy! Their beers are great. The best by far is the Pumpkin Ale. If you haven't tried it yet, you need to! read more

Awesome place! I've gotten so bored of regular pub food, but they seemed to have a pretty good selection of both food and beer. I was in the mood for seafood and ordered the Coastal Chowder, which was really creamy and had a generous amount of baby clams and mussels, with bacon, sweet corn, and potatoes. Very flavorful, and even better with some pepper, no salt needed. We also split the Buttered Chicken Potato Skins topped with melted mozzarella and scallions, served with cilantro sour cream. There weren't very many (4?), but was pretty filling. It was pretty good, though I wish the flavor was stronger in both the chicken (more butter chicken sauce, perhaps) and the sour cream. Love cilantro, so I was a bit disappointed and expected more of the fresh herb flavor. Washed it all down with a pint of their their original Raspberry Wheat brew, which was really light and not bitter at all, thanks to just a touch of the sweetness from the raspberries, but nowhere near as fruity as Friuli. This was great for me, since I wasn't in the mood for anything overly sweet, and the Raspberry Wheat was lighter and more subtle than I thought it would be. Not the best food I've ever had but it was pretty amazing considering this is a pub. I came with a friend of mine who brought her baby and dog and the staff were really accommodating. They make beer on site and it was super refreshing, I went with the lager I believe. They have everything fried you can imagine and you can't go wrong with that. The calamari was a bit rubbery, but the zuccini sticks were fried to perfection and the onion rings and sweet potatoe fries were done well too. Amidst the fried food I went for the warm goat cheese salad. The goat cheese and garlic bread were great but the salad was just ok considering it was $12. I absolutely passionately love this place. I drive in from out of town now and again and this has become my comfort zone when alone. I enjoy the Bytown Brown beer, but am addicted to the Oyster Stout. I have tried their fish dish, Bytown meat loaf, the supreme burger, and Korean stir-fry. I am blown away by the quality of their food, outstanding. I am so pleased with this place that I could go twice in one day. Great dishes and beer all day long which is difficult to find. Went here for dinner with a bunch of colleagues after a long day at work. The place was packed for a Wednesday evening. The service was good and orders arrived in pretty good time considering the brisk business. I love places that brew their own beer. Their brown is pretty darn good. The food was alright. I ordered french onion soup which was average. The steak was a bit over cooked for a medium rare. The evening ended with some cognac. The reason why I mention that is because this place has pretty much no insulation and is freezing inside. Combine that with sitting next to a single pane window and the door and don't be surprised if your jacket is crispy cold at the end of the night....seriously! Their heat bills must be insane!! -1 star for promoting 'alcohol to stay warm' ideas. btw...don't go there only for the food since it may not be worth it. I really wanted to like this place; it has a great location, the patio was enjoyable, and has an assortment of edibles and drinkables. The drinks (when they were full) were good. The food was good, but I'm not raving here. However, the service was below par. We could not catch the eye of our server, who was buzzing about so quickly it was difficult to even remind her about that water I'd asked for 20 minutes previously. The first time we came in we were exhausted from the 6 hour drive from Buffalo, our waitress was incredibly nice and peppy and made sure we were taken care of. I have been to the clock tower a couple of times (both the glebe and market locations) and have have been consistently underwhelmed. They style themselves as a brew pub but their beers range between awful and mediocre. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't anything to write home about. The atmosphere was pretty good, the Glebe location has a good patio while the market location has a pretty good decor but it doesn't really stand out against all of the other similar pubs in the area. In summary, my overall impression of the clock tower is that it is half-assed. With the number of brewpubs in Ottawa growing all the time, the Clocktower will really need to up their game to stay relevant, making better beer would be the first step read more

Had a great time here on a Friday night although we had to wait about 10-20 mins for a table. Tried every single kind of their house beers and they were all pretty acceptable, not on par with brewpubs in Quebec of course but still much better than drinking crap like Canadian or Blue. Date had the bowtie pasta with bacon (it was a daily special) and it was pretty tasty, I had some kind of grilled chicken panini with peameal bacon and it definitely hit the spot too. I'm a big fan of clocktower. The food and service here has always been great. Now what you might not know is that they have gluten free items (including burgers with buns!). You just have to ask the server for a gf menu or what is gf. I've had the burger twice and nachos, all really good. Visited here during a football game and ate at the bar. It wasn't crowded at all so the service was attentive, but not particularly friendly. I had a few beers and the grilled cheddar sandwich. It feels a little silly to give grilled cheese a four star review ... but Clocktower nailed it with this familiar comfort food. Not only was the cheddar flavorful and thick, Clocktower used the only bread anyone should be allowed to for a grilled cheese sandwich: sourdough. And the sandwich was grilled in garlic butter to boot. Clocktower was thoughtful with their choices without over thinking a meal so basic. I had the side salad and opted for maple balsamic vinaigrette, because wtf that sounds delicious, and it was. I almost over thought my own comfort food by getting salad over fries (who does that with grilled cheese?) but the dressing satisfied my sweet tooth and I'd do it again. I'm not a huge beer head, I just asked for something amber colored since it's a brew pub so they don't have familiar stand-by libations. The beer was fine, but I'd go back for the food over the beer. Like, our server was pleasant enough but there's this feeling of SORRY DON'T CARE you tend to get when they don't bother giving you cutlery and it takes like twenty minutes to get the check *on a slow afternoon*. As for the food itself? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. We were in on Friday night, a group of four, coming from a different restaurant where we had just had the worst experience. We landed in Peyton's section and told her we really just came for coffee and dessert, and only two of us were having dessert. Not the thing a server hopes for on a Friday night, four girls with waters and coffee and two desserts. Despite our low spend Peyton was an outstanding server: very attentive, great attitude, and super friendly. Generally we usually go to the Clocktower on the odd Friday after work but that night we had all decided to "try something new". In retrospect we all agreed we wished we had just gone there right from the start. We always enjoy the food, the service and the environment. Next time we will just start and finish there. Wings are great, but I think it's gross that they put salsa ON their nachos!! It's bad enough that with regular nachos, it's best to eat them while they are still warm and become so so when cooled, but their nachos get REALLY soggy!! I think they should put their salsa on the side and let the guest decide if they want soggy nachos or not!! So thanks to the soggy nachos, we could only eat about a third of the portion, and for the price they charge, I don't think I got my money's worth at all!!!!! Was in town for a few days and made a point to visit a few brew pubs...this was the first ace in my list. As usual, I get the sampler so I'm able to taste a good selection of what's being brewed. I was pleasantly surprised at the size if their sampler...5 8-ounce glasses. I'm not sure I've ever been to a brew pub that offers that much in a sampler. Although I thought the price was steep, nearly $20, I gave in and ordered. Unfortunately, not one of the 5 beers in the sampler was anything to write home about; in fact, I could only stomach one sip from three of the options because the taste was so off. Luckily, their French fries were delicious, so my whole experience wasn't a complete bust. read more

My wife and I went out on the town (I like to show the ladies a good time!) and we decided to stop in for a drink at the Clock Tower Brew Pub. There are many pubs along Bank Street, but what drew us to the Clock Tower was a) it's distinctive building - it is a large, two-level building with a large clock tower (hence the name) and b) it has a private parking lot, which is useful on that busy stretch of Bank right up next to the 417. We arrived at around 8pm on a Tuesday night and the parking lot was full - not to worry, there was parking around the corner on Strathcona. Anyhow, the lot was full because the Clock Tower was jammed packed with customers. It is a happening place to hang out and, since the tables are placed close together, it is easy to meet new people. The real delight with the Clock Tower is that, as the name suggests, they brew a selection of their own beers. And their beer is tast-y! If you are the type of beer drinker who avoids watery, tasteless lagers in favour of rich coloured and flavourful brews, then the Clock Tower will have what you are seeking. The food is traditional pub fare (wings, nachos, etc.) at reasonable prices. Downstairs is a games room with TVs, a pool table and board games. It has a real den-like atmosphere down there. My advice is to get there early though - it is VERY popular and people tend to linger. read more

The best things the Clock Tower has going for it are its seasonal beers, large patio and downstairs games room. The food and main floor ambiance are average. This pub seems to be more popular in the summertime due to its patio that looks onto Bank Street. People can stop by on the way home from work or after playing some sort of organized sport and enjoy a cold one outside with friends, co-workers or family. My favourite beer is their raspberry wheat. The downstairs portion is exceptional because few pubs offer a den-like games room to casually bond with friends while you distract yourselves with games and alcohol. Both the patio and den can get busy, so try to avoid peak times. read more

The decor of pub, was nice, very pub like. However, the poutine leaved little to be desired. It came with a $10 price tag, which I could live with as I love poutine, and I assumed that it would come smothered in gravy and curds. I was very disappointed. First, it was about the size of small at a french fry wagon and had about 15 cold curds with barely enough gravy to cover the top layer of fries. The cold curds made gravy get cold, which in turn caused fries to get cold. The worst poutine I've ever had a restaurant or chip wagon and I've had a lot, you would get better poutine at Harvey's! read more
