This is the double room in the ER area #6A. It was a single room converted to a double by a dividing wall. As you can see there

(3/13/25) Well here I am again at Atrium Pineville. This time it's for an ultrasound. Registration was actually painless. That was truly a blessing. Now my wife and I are sitting in a waiting area with a view of some very strange artworks. The three face jug is different. It wasn't the exam I was expecting. An unanticipated surprise. They examined my aorta rather than my abdomen. The procedure didn't take very long and it was drama free. They did insist that I sit in a wheelchair to be transported to the waiting area.

Excellent health care . Excellent service and care. Nurses, doctors and staff are very kind, and helpful.

Nice people, bad parking horrible scheduling. If you love bad parking options, incompetent scheduling and lack of customer service, this is the place for you! After you leave extra time to cope with the bad parking options and finally get to the Atrium waiting room, you are greeted with ridiculous delays that can only come from bad planning and lack of customer concern. This is obviously just expected by staff since the have premade signs on he bulletin board next to Dr's names that announce varying delay times up to an hour (see picture). Here is a novel concept. Schedule intelligently so your patients aren't waiting on you. They are your customers, who have taken time off work to use your services or lack thereof. I do not recommend this Atrium location. On the positive side, Mr Rumsey was very friendly and helpful once I got past the long wait.

From the ER staff and security guard to the staff on the 6th floor, I and my family are SO APPRECIATIVE of the care and concern our loved one received! I stayed in the hospital with my loved one the first week, only going home to shower & change clothes once. When the security guard noticed that I was going out to my car to charge my & my loved one's phones, he told me about a kiosk that allowed me to borrow a portable charger so I wouldn't have to go out in the cold. Nurses seeing that I was staying overnight would ask if I needed a warm blanket or anything. They were sensitive to the fact that if anything was going on with my loved one, I wasn't sleeping. If they were tending to them, so was I. I can't say thank you enough for all the care given to my loved one. It was brought to my attention that a staff member from the hospital visited my loved one since he's been in a rehabilitation center. From the bottom of my heart, I can't say thank you enough!

Stayed 12 days had 2 surgeries received no bed bath or clean linens the entire stay. This hospital had no reguard for anything I said to the doctors or nurses who attended me. I had other health issues which they ignored to the point of telling me that was an out patient issue instead of calling in additional specialist. The worst experience I have personally had with any healthcare facility. They had no previous health history on me and I am 79 years old. No one ask about my health conditions or if I had a health care directive. I had full coverage insurance which I paid and I deserved much better from what should have been an outstanding facility. I will never go there again for any reason. No follow up care after leaving the hospital.

Over the last year,…read moremy wife and I have both had occasion to use this hospital and I was very impressed both times. My case was a routine colonoscopy that turned into any but routine. Had the initial procedure done at Novant North in Huntersville and initially everything was unremarkable. 10 days later I developed GI hemorrhaging and first I was taken to Novant Huntersville and then transferred to Presbyterian Medical Center when I was admitted to the CCU. Spent 2 1/2 days and ended up with 3 IV 's of whole blood, 6 liters of saline and a host of other injections to stabilize my body. For the first 24 hours I had constant care and vitals taken every hour. Next day was better but while the frequency diminished, I was still got regular tests. In the course, I was visited by physicians from my Gastroenterologist office on a regular basis. The wanted to keep me another 24 hours but since I live close to Novant North and my signs had stabilized, I was able to talk them into releasing me the evening of the third day. My wife's Gastroenterologist wanted her to have an Ultrasound of the liver as a preventative diagnostic tool. Her appointment was at 12:30 and we needed to be there 15 minutes early. I dropped her off at noon and she walked in while I parked the car. Walked into the main lobby and took a seat and waited. She walked out at 12;25, 5 minutes prior to her scheduled time. Stopped for lunch but by the time we got home, the radiologist; had already read the scans and results were sent to her and to the Doctor who had requested the tests. Very impressed with the level of service and efficiency.

The restrooms were fairly maintained and they even had a micro Starbucks that closes at 3:00P. Every communication was available in both English and Spanish languages. Parking was plentiful and not very far away from the main entrance. Black and white pictures of patients and care providers decorated the walls and for some reason there was a grand piano in the back of the lobby. Though there are nice touches to improve the patient experience, the coldness of the tech and the delay of services made more of an impact than the niceties on display.

And with that I will share the facts of my diagnosis and prognosis as to know why the rating changed. You know that joke about "Why do they call it 'practicing' medicine?" It's because much of it is not an exact science. Here we go... Emergency room doctors are generalists across multiple medical disciplines. Especially at 10pm on a Sunday night, you're likely not going to get a specialist in whatever it is that's wrong with you. An emergency room physician (which is a medical specialty in itself) will try to narrow down the main cause of your condition, stabilize you, and depending on the prognosis, either either treat you in the ER, admit you to the hospital for further treatment or simply refer you to a doctor who is more specialized in your condition. I visited Atrium Health three weeks ago (see that review below) and the doctor saw me twice, sent me down the hall for a CT imaging and after reviewing the imaging, wrote a prognosis that made sense at the time: a 6mm kidney stone that would painfully pass by itself in 4 or 5 days. I was also provided a referral to a urologist . She wrote me up for painkillers and by the time I was discharged, the pain was much more manageable. I called their urologists and got a full voice mail so I reached out to my own general practitioner for a referral. Long story short (too late!), I've seen the urologist who looked at what the ER doctor saw. It's three weeks later. Warning: Gross bits ahead. Skip the next paragraph if you're queasy about medical stuff. ("POTATO!" -inside joke.) This morning was a scheduled outpatient procedure that stuck a laser up my ureter and zapped the stone. (And thank goodness for a great anesthesiologist because I was blanked out from the pre-op room to the recovery room and I do not remember a thing!) This surgical urologist said that it was definitely bigger than 6mm and it was definitely not going to pass on its own. I'm now at home and 100%, just waiting for the local discomfort to pass in the next few hours. Okay, we're back from the skip. Simply looking at the calendar we can see that it has been 22 days since then. The stone clearly didn't pass and I've not had any further issue with it since then but I didn't want to wait. Obviously, it's been more than 4 or 5 days. Good thing I cancelled my trip to Portugal, eh? So the highlight here is that yes, your ER doctor is going to do the very best that they can. But you should absolutely get a second opinion from a more specialized doctor where possible. [Review 18619 overall - 3340 in North Carolina - 2141 of 2022.]
