A wonderful place to visit on a lazy Sunday (or any other lazy day I guess). Step back in time, relax and enjoy! There is plenty of parking on both sides of the street and in the middle of the street - despite this be prepared to circle a couple of times before you find a spot. I think it is pay and display during the week but free on Sundays. Definitely worth a visit if you are anywhere close - and may I suggest Rick Stein (see my review) for lunch or dinner!! I've tried a few different hire places but Audio Forum were by far the best. They're tucked away in an industrial estate (as many of these places are) in Brislington, but are well worth seeking out. First of all, despite the slightly ramshackle look of their premises, they know what they're doing, hiring out gear for clubs and bars all over Bristol. They're also happy to dispense advice and don't cost that much (I hired a glitterball which was bigger than my torso for £15 for the weekend). Plus they have a laidback attitude about when you return the stuff (as long as it's back in time for the next weekend essentially). Most importantly, I've been let down by other PA hire companies in Bristol and Audio Forum are much more reliable.

I did the high tea for the first time and it was a little disappointing they didn't come around and refresh our tea and it wasn't it wasn't all I've hoped it would be but oh well. The breakfasts were great by UK standards. The room was fine it was big. As with a lot of places in Europe that didn't have air conditioning and didn't have screens on the windows. We had called ahead and asked for sheets on the beds which we appreciated them doing I enjoyed exploring the grounds and the English Gardens. There were sheep nearby which I enjoyed walking to see. As a part of our room we were told we got an hour in the spa so in the US that means massage facial pedicure that's not what that means there. It meant that you got an hour in there pool jacuzzi area which I thought was very strange. And I figured if they were giving you a time like that that we'd have it all to ourselves not not at all nope nope nope nope. I've never been at a place that had a pool and a jacuzzi and they gave you only an hour that was really weird. But they did have a sauna and steam room also that counted in the meager hour that you were given. Personally I didn't like that policy. There's not a whole lot around that area so anything you go do you're spending quite a bit in transportation. But this is the nicest place in the area. A great place to have an event like a wedding. There's things around the facility that tell the history of the building which is interesting to read about it was a hospital and I think even a prison. But either way it is very well restored my husband's company thought about buying it for their headquarters and I'm glad they didn't because they wouldn't have did it justice. It needed a lot of money to make it gorgeous again.

Another annoyance was that the very expensive menu is printed in small print with poor contrast and the restaurant is dimly lit. It is best not to read the price of wine lest you faint due to the shock. This meant a torch was needed to read it. The swimming pool is excellent. Staff were good, breakfast was excellent.

Rooms in the main block are spacious and attractively decorated (we had one of the four poster rooms looking down on the Market Square). Heating was a little erratic in this cold snap. Staff were friendly and helpful, and seemed remarkably young. Food in the restaurant in the evening was of a reasonable standard, priced a little over average for the area, although the breakfast was poor. The "English Breakfast" was sausage, one egg, bacon, beans, mushrooms and hash browns, with toast and coffee. The mushrooms were cold, and the egg was, well, odd. The main lounge is popular for tea and coffee, with various locals as well as guests visiting while we were there.

With a moderate walk, you gain access to the central core of this historic city. However, our July visit was plagued by the horrible breakfast fare. For the money, the management could really upgrade the selections. The main issue was the broken coffee machine. In the height of the tourist season why would you not make every effort to fix this machine immediately. We asked and got no satisfactory answer. Bad, bad, bad. The grocery store across the street was our savior. We bought some fresh breakfast items and brought them back to the hotel as a last resort. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The parking is very tight and limited. Come on guys, you can do better!

The car parking facilities are good and ample for the amount of rooms. There was a complimentary breakfast included in our rate which was lovely. There was loads of choice and it was served buffet style in a large spacious restaurant which provided newspapers and a large tv screen. The staff were lovely and polite and abl to give me loads of information about what to see and do in the town.

We arrived sweaty and breathless. We talked to the bartender for a little about the beer and asked about the local brews. Very knowledgeable about the local breweries! After trying a few we settled on some great pints. We had forgotten our wallets at the cottage!! No worries. The bartender was super nice. Eventually we scavenged enough coins to cover it, but I think we would have been good even if we didn't have it covered. Much nicer than our hometown of Chicago! Come here when in Bradford-on-Avon!!!
