They served it in the classic style with potatoes, charcuterie, pickles and vegetables. Everything was authentic. This is an extraordinary restaurant and was thoroughly enjoyable. I looked at their cheeses on the way out, and they were all of the best quality. Staff is busy, but mostly helpful.

We struggled to order because we went to have fondue and there were so many other things we wanted. But we finally decided on the regular fondue. Warning, if you are allergic to or don't like fondue with garlic, it has it. We had to return it. No where on the description of any of the fondues do they say garlic and they are pretty descriptive on each. There was no problem. Just hated to ask. The bread they served for the fondue was not really good. The pieces seemed to have been toasted they were not just stale(as they should be) they were hard as rocks. I thought the fondue itself was pretty good. Yes, I have had better, but the experience was worth it. We sat next to a table that had the Raclette and I was truly jealous. Next time it would be Raclette. Service was great. Loved the looks of the restaurant. They have the world's biggest cheese dome! Recommend making a reservation in advance. They place packs up with both tourists and locals.

We stayed at the Halber Mond for 3 nights (it's part hotel, restaurant, brewery) and highly recommend. Our room was a family suite, which required 67 steps to top floor (no elevator to this room) but the climb was worth it -- we had beautiful views of the village and Starkenburg castle, one of the medieval castles along the Bergstrasse. Rooms were clean, large, well-maintained and comfortable. Breakfast was typical for Germany, a generous selections of eggs, juices, cereals, fruits, meats, etc. Didn't eat in the restaurant but did spend one evening in their biergarten, enjoying bratwurst, wienerschnitzel, and their excellent beer.

Steaks were very big and those that had the jack daniels pepper and the blue cheese sauces loved them. If you are open to being a rebel, order the steaks instead of the charcuterie and dip the steak in the fondue, best bite I ate all meal. On a warm day in spring we found a nice place of the terrace and ordered two glasses of wine (Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner), a bottle of water and two Flammkuchen. The location had some magic, viewing white storks and the medieval square. So far so good.... What went wrong? One of the wines, Sylvaner, was not good. It was clearly oxidized, a typical wine faults. Sending the glass back and I received a new one, however exactly the same fault (same bottle?). The waiter apparently concluded that is wan't my taste, bit told me this how the Sylvaner should taste, a bit arrogant. I'm sorry for the waiter, I've drinken bottles of Sylvaner before both from Alsac as well as from various places in Germany and I know how a good Sylvaner can taste. This was a fault. The other wine (Pinot Blanc) was okay, it was below average from quality and not promoting the good wines in the region, but it was do-able. What remains: the Flammkuchen was mediocre, not with a special praise not any complaint. Food: 3 Service: 2 Wine: 1 Overall: 2
