Makato is our favorite hair dresser EVER! He is always so attentive and gentle. My husband and I both go to him and he's kept both of our hairstyles nice and fresh since AUBE opened! I have thin, straight, Asian hair and Makato was able to give me a cute LOB. I've always been so happy with my haircuts and I hope to keep coming back even if we're out of the city!

Hair dye that was never rinsed out, left on my hairline and scalp

I'm honestly extremely sad to have to write this review. I went to see Yuki for a haircut, root coverage, and full head highlights on Sunday, April 11th. Positives: Friendly stylists. The space is spacious, clean, and covid protocols are followed. Yuki gave me a great haircut. Unfortunately, thats it. I came in with dark brown/black hair, some of it virgin, & some of it pigmented with dark brown box dye. Yuki discussed colour options with me. We agreed I would be a more complex case because the pictures I showed included ashy brown hues. I have had icy balayages in the past and know it takes more than one session, especially when trying to remove box dye in parts of hair. I told Yuki I just wanted to get highlights that can be the best level of brown she can achieve. Yuki offered 2-3 bleach sessions and said she'd do her best, & I really trusted her because her own hair is gorgeous ash blonde, top to bottom. When Yuki hand painted my hair, she did not include foil or heat in any of the process. She painted my hair with balayage strokes beginning at the LOWER MID of my hair shaft. She then let it process on its own for 50 minutes. When she would come back, she mentioned that some parts processed better than others. Expectedly, the parts where I had previous dark brown dye was going orange while other parts of my hair were approaching yellow. What I found surprising is that when she washed out the first session of bleach, she blow dried my hair and then went back in doing the same thing as the first time, despite knowing that I had varying levels of lift in the hair. I also don't know how it was expected for parts of my hair to lift further without the assistance of foil. After she completed painting my hair with the bleach a second time, she told me she would let another hair stylist do my brown processing colour in the rest of my hair. She suddenly left and was working on another guest. I politely accepted this, because its such an awkward situation that was just suddenly happening with no warning. She never checked in on how the colouring was going and the other stylist ended up getting dye all over my forehead, which he did not try to wipe off. I didn't know it at the time, but when Yuki was rinsing off the brown pigment on my scalp, she didn't rinse it out completely. I was left with brown pigment still on my hairline. When I was getting the blowdry, I honestly felt a bit confused. Why was my hair so dark? Why does it look like I had nothing going on? I chalked it up to the salon lighting for the reason why I couldn't see the effects of the work that was done. I examined a bit further and thought, okay, I see some of the work that was done, the brown and the orange look 'blended' enough for me to accept. Okay, sure. So I paid for my service, which ended up being inaccurately charged (there were services that shouldn't have been there). Then I walk out into daylight and open my phone camera. Everything is patchy, nothing on my top half. I don't have babylights, or highlights. I have pigments everywhere and at best, a failed ombre that looks like I grew out. I was devastated and e-mailed the salon the next day, who told me sorry, but Yuki wasn't working until Wednesday so I wouldn't hear back until then. They offered nothing else. I wait until Wednesday, and I hear nothing back from Yuki. I e-mail the salon at 4pm asking for a response, and hear back from her in less than 30 minutes after I send the email. She tells me that I can pay to have a third bleach session, or dye it back to a darker colour for free. She doesn't acknowledge anything else except that its the fault of my box dye. I ended up going to another salon who colour corrected me in 2 hours with minimal damage. I am serious. I know Yuki has many positive reviews so maybe I'm a rare case. I wouldn't have written this kind of review if we could have resolved this internally in a better way. In the end, we didn't, and I couldn't not write this because I paid over $500.00 for the results you see in the photos.

I've had some awful cuts and colours done by other salons in the past, my hair was in need of some help. After lots of research I discovered Aube Hair Salon and I'm so glad! The stylist discussed everything with me and asked me throughout if I was ok and needed a drink. The overall style of the salon is nice and open with a more private relaxing environment hair wash station. There are lockers to keep your belonging in however if you have a coat they will be left out in the open. I'll defiantly be returning.

This my purple and blue mix, the result outside when u can see both color and inside u see dark purple blue just like black.

I really likes this salon, i got Madoka as my hair designer! She gave me very good tips and advice for my hair designing. I went to dyed my hair, cut and treatment. She has so much patients and pay attention to every details of my hair. When the hair color came out as a result its exactly what I expect. I am so in love with my new hair color. The salon is very clean and pretty inside, one thing you all got to know is they provide lockers to the customers and with a key locks and you can leave all your personal belonging safely inside. Which is a great idea compare to other salon that i been to. I am definitely recommend this salon with great service and people.

New doo with the man, does an excellent job and really takes the time to find out what you want

Within 4 weeks the colour faded unevenly and turned brassy, and the roots did not blend. The layers removed too much density and made my hair feel thin and wispy. Nowhere near to the reference photo style. I declined a $90 gloss and feel the colour service relied on that to correct poor formulation. Permanent dye is also being repeatedly pulled through hair that's already been coloured giving it a dry, patchy look. On another visit, I asked for soft fringe bangs using a clear reference photo, but they were cut wet and left choppy and uneven! This is like basic hair technique 101!

We've gone through a bunch of different hair colours over the years, I used to dye my hair and started disliking the dark root look, so when Covid hit, I decided that I would start to grow our my natural colour. As a professional musician, our band is always having photos done, I didn't want to look grey, I wanted to somehow keep a hint of blonde but maintain a somewhat natural look with my salt and pepper coming in. I discussed this with Amanda who knew exactly what to do, she suggested foils and we've been doing foils ever since. I would never go to any other salon. Citrus Hair Salon is so classy, from the wonderful staff that greets you at the door to the person popping by with snacks. They have fantastic communication, you get a phone call and a text if your stylist is running late. The salon itself is very stylish, the wash area seats are soft and padded and you never get neck strain unlike other salons when your hair is being washed plus they have an array of wonderful products. If you like hair extensions - they have those too! Amanda is not only an expert with colours and styles, she's an incredibly beautiful and kind, smart, charismatic human. There needs to be more stars available to add to this review - great doesn't quite match the service and quality, it should say extraordinary. Thank you Amanda for taking such good care of me all these years and to the owner and all the staff as well. It's easy to write a bad review, I wish more people would write reviews when people and establishments are outstanding.

On a rare occasion I will mention names only for the purposes of management to be aware. Names provided on their website. Sitting in my styling chair and having Kim take care of me, I was actually quite impressed. Not only was she a delight to deal with but she's an absolute expert at what she does...I received exactly what I was looking for. I was really enjoying myself...the energy, the vibe and knowing I was in good hands with Kim who was cutting my hair for the first time. I was in this Zen place thinking to myself in my chair ....finally I found my salon. ........................Until At the end, as I was checking out.....Luna charged me $120. I reminded her that actually Kim's fee for a woman's cut on the website is $100. She mentioned that this is the minimum and that it can increase based on the length of hair, quality of hair...and this and that....which is funny because they call you before the appointment and ask you all that stuff, but don't mention any price increase, until you have to pay....lol I asked her again and she said, the website is not accurate... wow...ok.... Anyhoo, I did find it a little disingenuous especially considering that Kim my stylist mentioned it was easy to cut my hair because of how healthy it is...so why the extra charge then?..... Anyway, moving on....Kim gave me a great cut and she's worth every dollar. What really pissed me off was something else..... I was paying cash, and as I handed Luna my bills she asked would you like change back? I said yes. Twice she asked me and then gave me this look like you're not leaving a tip?! She asked me again, you want ALL of it back?...Yes, I said....As I wanted to manage the tip situation with Kim herself upon a little chat before heading out. What made this even worse was, as Luna was giving me back my change...she dropped every single nickel, dime and Loonie on the desk. Before giving me ....this judgemental look. Every single minute of that enjoyable experience in that salon before checkout crashed and burned. Ok....I'll tell you....it wasn't even the money. I felt judged. I did speak with Kim afterwards outside only to be fair, as I wanted her to know, because she is a great stylist. However, it is exactly due to people like the front desk girl Luna cashing me out that I will not return here. I'm sad to say. Hair salons are like any other businesses. Reception is everything. The first thing the customers experiences and the last thing the customer leaves with...either brings them back or not. Interestingly, Upon arrival, the front girl was someone else and her energy and service matched an upscale environment, professional and courteous. Pity for them she wasn't the one at the front as I was leaving. If you are the reception for the evening, it is not your business how much tip clients leave or choose not to leave. It is however, your business to problem solve which she didn't do. At all. "The website is not accurate" is all she gave me with a blank stare. She didn't even attempt to ask or consult my stylist about the fee confusion, or to ask management to look into the matter and honor what could have simply been an honest misunderstanding. She just dropped my change as you would throw a street performer without a second thought, as to customer satisfaction or your own professional responsibility to the salon and its owner. If it weren't for Kim's great cut they'd only get 1 star.

I decided to try this place again, and booked my first haircut with Zen. I could tell that he is popular as I had to book my appointment one month before to get a slot. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Zen at the front door. He asked if I have appointment, and proceeded to ask for my vaccine card and ID before letting me in. Once seated, he asked me what kind of hair style I wanted to get. I described to him, the length and the image I wanted. Then he told me to move to the hair washing station, he washed my hair and gave me head massage. When I get back to my seat, he gave me mini shoulder massage. It was a very relaxing experience! We had a bit of casual conversation throughout the haircut experience, about his background and where he came from. I specifically asked for short bangs and he asked my daily routine. He wanted to make sure that he cut my bangs to the style that I can maintain everyday. I was really happy with the result. The price is slightly more expensive than with other stylist or other places, but it is totally justifiable. Nit, on the website, it says that haircut include eyebrow cut, but he did not offer it maybe due to COVID-19?

However, when I sat down, Ada start to cut my hair and spraying water. I thought maybe she will wash my hair later. She didn't; she just said she would put some moroccan oil on my hair because my hair was dry. I was skeptical about it because when I was at another hair salon, the hairstylist put the moroccan oil after my hair has been washed. Then she asked Richard to turn on the curler. I felt odd because I didn't ask for my hair to be curly. I was the last customer of the day. She just kept cutting and then she curled the ends of my hair. She said, "I want you to have a different style. Do you know the star XXX? She looks nice with this hairstyle." But that is not what I'd asked for; I just want my hair to be straight with layers and the ends trimmed. She also said," I bought the curler for $100 but now curlers are so cheap, only $40 something. You see how I curled the hair? I will teach you next time." It was strange that she said that; no hairstylists would say that when they curled your hair. It was 30 degrees outside but she asked Richard to turn off the air conditioning. Saving electricity? I don't know why. She kept cutting then she asked me to stand up to let her see my hair. She said she would see my hair better if I stand up. If she cannot cut my hair using the mirror nor just by looking at my face while I was sitting, she is genuinely unprofessional. This is the first time that a hairstylist asked me to stand up in order for him/her to cut the hair. The phone rang after a few seconds, I sat down as she went to answer the phone. When she took off the towel on my shoulder and the protective coat that I wore after she finished cutting my hair. She said. "Wait, your hair." The she cut the ends of my hair again on my shirt and she said, "Don't move" as her scissor was close to my neck. It is really unprofessional for the hairstylists to cut the hair again after they took off the towel and the protective coat. She charged me the price of a single cut at the end. However, I never ask for a single cut only; I expect the haircut includes shampoo and blow dry. Also, I, the client, shouldn't need to stand up for her to see and to cut my hair; that just means she is unskillful. Moreover, she shouldn't cut the client's hair after taking away the towel and the protective coat from his/her clothes. Importantly, she didn't cut the hairstyle that I, the client, had asked for. She had done a hairstyle that she wants instead. If she is that arrogant, then I will just try another hair salon. P.S. After I washed my hair that night and the curls were gone, I realized that my hair on the right side is half inch shorter than my hair on the left side. I suspect that the good reviews were written by their relatives or friends, or just for a discount from the hair salon. Their prices are not cheap; same prices as other Chinese hair salons. The owners (Ada and Richard) are not professional at all, regarding their skills and service. There are better choices of Chinese hair salons in Vancouver.
