It's nice going into a store knowing you're not being overcharged. Jim, the owner, will bend over backwards to help you find what you're looking for, even if he has to special order it for you. He'll even give you a fair price for any vinyl you're looking to sell, which is a heck of a lot better than trying to sell them at a garage sale or the like. My initial thoughts were that I probably couldn't afford to shop there, but I thought I would give them a look. I am so glad I did. They have a full range of equipment and prices, from beginner to true audiophile. While they physically just can't offer the wide range of offerings one could find while looking at an online warehouse, they have done a fantastic job of filtering out the "also rans" and selecting the best items at each price level. The items they do offer are very highly rated and reviewed. Items they sell are available on display to see, feel, explore, and HEAR. I knew how things worked, what the capabilities were, what it felt like and what it sounded like. The owners were extremely helpful and patient with me, they were interested that I felt right about my new equipment, and there was no pressure or upsell. They also helped me understand the proper setup and functions of my new stuff. The worry about how I might return something if it wasn't right was gone completely. I was happy and I could take the item home with me that day. The very best part? I PAID LESS! I got hands (and EARS!) on experience, expertise to help me understand the setup and functions of my equipment in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, all at a lower price than I would have had I ordered online. Their prices were equal to, or lower than, ANY price I could find for the same new equipment. I am not associated with The Listening Room in any way other than being a VERY satisfied customer. They helped me get the very best sound that I could afford, and I think they could do the same for you.

Owned by one of the kindest, most conscientious music fans and female store owners in Michigan. An encounter with Heather Frarey is like talking to an old freind from high school. She is personable and connects on every level. She along with her pal Bill, stocks this store with so much love and charm. But don't let it fool you. She's a rocker. A punk. An adult contemporary lover. That's the BEST kind of fan. The store grows by leaps and bounds yearly. And her VERY affordable USED selections are unmatched by other records stores. They are all in excellent condition. Nothing she wouldn't own for herself. I have bought and sold many records at the Record Lounge. Always at a fair price. Let me say that again: She BUYS used records at a great price. By the dozens or hundreds. That fact is, I could never spend ENOUGH time there on my visits. If you like them on FB you will see almost daily videos of new arrivals. They are very good at responding to their messages and will welcome you with great service. Even BETTER, she sells stereos. Not the random new stuff but has a great array of SOLID older units restored and cared for by a great friend of hers. It's more than you'd expect from an independent. But THAT is the reason why she succeeds. The store has more employees than I have met yet, but I plan for a reunion soon. So I will be in to scour the Monkees records, talk about ELO and come home with more than I went in for and THAT is the hallmark of a great business and record store.
