What a great store. I do not understand the comments about the "grumpy" owner. Elmar was kind and shared his story as well as his extensive knowledge of the record collection. Very pleased with this place! This shop was just a short walk away from the hotel we were staying at, and being a vinyl junkie I knew I had to see what it was all about. I read some of the reviews about this place before going in, and made sure to stop at an ATM beforehand - they're cash only! Albums in here range from 50's to 90's, and feature a good number of well-known artists. While some of the names I spied in the bins had no albums in that section, I did manage to find an album that's been on my wishlist for the longest time (A-Ha's Hunting High and Low) in decent condition and at a fair $10. There's also a section of country albums and jazz albums, plus posters you can buy off the walls. I only wish I could have taken pictures of the place - it's actually pretty beautiful inside, neatly organized and decorated, but there are signs in the bins and all the walls asking not to take any pictures inside. Which I don't really understand the reason for, but it's not really my business. Either way, I'm glad I stopped in. A nice treat for an out-of-town record collector like myself! read more

I really like it at Vinyl Record Bank. The selection of vinyl is pretty impressive, very well organized, and even labeled with any possible issue the record might have (IE: "slightly scratched", "brand new", "track issues" etc.)..you really know what you're getting from this store. The owner of the place was really cool and helpful. We had been here a year ago and the guy was in a bad mood or something, but this last time we went he was friendly and helpful. I didn't see the numerous "no photography allowed" signs anywhere when I took a picture of the store for this review, but my girlfriend quickly pointed them out and I stopped. I'm glad the owner didn't see me, that would've been crappy to get yelled at by him about it (as I've seen in other reviews here that he does). Probably would've affected my opinion of him and the store. Nevertheless, it was a very pleasant experience shopping here. I appreciated the random and obscure records he had for sale and the time and detail of how they were categorized and labeled. If and when I'm back in the area I would absolutely stop here again. read more

This store has tons of records from the 70s, 80s, 90s and other decades. They are divided into genres and sorted alphabetically. Every record that I looked at was clean and in good condition. This place is cash only, he does not accept debit cards. Also note that this is only open Friday until Sunday to cater to tourists. Yes the owner can tell you what albums he has in stock (from memory) and how often he may see a specific album or artist. read more

The other reviews still hold true. The place is CASH ONLY but there are signs everywhere letting you know. There's nothing worse than getting to the counter and finding out. He has a great selection and has any notes about the album are attached. If it was test played, he also has the date listed. He's open on the weekends since that's his boom time. Pros: Eclectic mix of vinyl and well organized. Pricing is competitive or better depending on what is available for you to purchase. Cons: Owner and store policies. I've got no issue with the cash only policy. I do have a serious problem with the prohibition against browsing certain crates on the showroom floor. I've never encountered a record store that reprimands customers for browsing inventory on the floor. Floor = Fair Game. To make matters worse is that the owner will not hesitate to vocally scold you for "violating" this "policy." The no pictures policy is equally as egregious. However, and, Unlike the "no pictures" warnings puncturing every wall in the place, no mention is made of this "off-limits" restriction. But you'll certainly be notified should you try and breach. Neither of these policies have any place in a record store. And, the owner's hyper-vigilance to enforce this nonsense and admonish customers for "violations" is completely absurd. Ultimately The record store is supposed to be a sanctuary. The curmudgeon owner's paranoiac outbursts are completely out of line. Caveat Emptor. read more

Cool selection of old vinyl records, posters, photos and other musical memorabilia inside a very old bank in downtown Frankenmuth. They are only open a few days a week, it's cash only and the owner posts signs everywhere forbidding customers from taking pictures anywhere in the store. Those are the major faults with this place. The manner in which it's run is somewhat oppressive and old-fashioned. It is a true blue indie record shop owned by a passionate and knowledgeable collector of vintage records. That dude knows his stuff. I found him interesting to chat with, always coming up with different anecdotes or tales from the road. I think he was either a roadie or a die hard fan of several bands back in the day. I'm sure he's has a few more stories to tell! Selection is decent and everything is very well-organized and quality is good, more so on rare records and behind the scenes tour memorabilia and old concert pics. Prices are mixed and can either be really low or extremely high. If he doesn't accept credit cards, and there is really no reason not to, then prices should be lower. I scored a few records and a couple of hard to find, previously unreleased tour photos of Amy Winehouse, the Clash and Debbie Harry. If the owner accepted credit cards, I believe that I'd buy a lot more. That's how it is. Typically, I refuse to do business with someone who won't accept credit cards, so I made an exception with this store, though I would be a loyal customer if the owner would just invest in an Intuit card reader or something. read more

I came last weekend; there was a sign on the door that said they would be open this weekend. I am here now and it's saying closed indefinitely due to covid. It's over an hour drive for me to visit this location and I was really excited to visit. Maybe in the future don't post signs on the door you will be open the following weekend if you will not be. read more

Cool old record shop that is seemingly housed in an old bank building. It's well- organized rock, pop, jazz, and country but not much else. Go elsewhere if you're looking for more alternative music. If you have some spare time it is nice to paw through the offerings and there is enough space to move around. read more

It's a fairly new shop with a decent selection. I stopped in while on vacation with my family and managed to find a few things that we wanted. Prices were fair and all the vinyl was very well kept which is always a great thing. The records are organized alphabetically, but not by genre, which didn't bother me since the selection was pretty moderately sized. You could dig through everything in the store in maybe an hour. I was pretty surprised at the amount of obscure albums from the 80's I found. A lot of stuff that I had never seen or heard of before, so if that's something you're into, then definitely check this place out. We talked to the shop owner for a few minutes while we were checking out, and he seemed very nice. I was having trouble choosing what albums I wanted to buy and he offered to play a few tracks to help me decide. He seemed like a very old school guy and doesnt really like the internet or people coming in taking photos of his store or his albums, which may sound strange but after talking to him for a while I understood where he was coming from. He really cares about his music and his store and it shows. Definitely worth stopping in and supporting if you're in town. read more

I stopped in while visiting Frankenmuth with my girlfriend last summer and fell in love with this place. It is housed in a beautiful well maintained old bank. The owner was there and we talked extensively about his collection and mine. Our music preferences where almost identical. He had a huge selection of good vinyl and oddball items. I didn't expect to spend an hour or so with him but we hit it off so well I couldn't leave, much to chagrin of my girlfriend. I did find some real gems to add to my collection of more than 10,000 (ten thousand) vinyl's...not that I needed them BUT once a collector always a collector. Of course my girlfriend wasn't happy I spent $300.00 while there but I made it up to her. I liked it so much that I am leaving home here in Cincinnati on Sunday JUST to go there for the day before heading to Traverse City for a week. I tried to video chat with my wife to see if she wanted some old Star Wars records and the owner flipped out!! It looked like a nice place on the outside. I walked inside and it looked like a decent amount of records. I got about 1/8 of the way through the store and found an artist that my friend likes. I went to take a picture of the album to see if I should get it for my friend and the owner harshly remarked, "no photography! I have signs saying that everywhere!" Still not seeing any signs and with his tone upsetting me, I walked out. I would post photos but obviously I have none. read more

Very rude and condescending owner, as another previous review stated. Tried cracking a joke about a Tammy Faye picture sleeve, was greeted with a very rude remark as if I was a high school kid. This place is amazing! You might not find what you're looking for if you want more modern music, but if you're a classics fan then you'll have no problem picking something out! Not only are there a crap ton of records to choose from, they have original promo posters and other cool things also for sale. A gem in a tiny tourist town. Loved it!! It really has that old record store feel to it, nothing like Urban Outfitters or FYE. read more
