And it smelled fine. Over all I definitely recommend this as a good place to stay for weary travelers seeking a nice place to stay. The Air conditioner worked great. And the unit was on before I entered the room. The microwave was filthy, something made a mess on the inside of it against the door screen and window. Recommend they replace it. The couch is a fold out single bed, I did not pull it out to see the condition of it. Sure be handy in a pinch for an extra person. So put you suit case on the folding holder take a nice shower and hit the sack and sleep like a baby!! This Motel will be on my list of places to stay I gave them 4 stars for what happened for me. They would have received five if it wasn't for the soaps and microwave. For the cost of the room 5 stars just for how nice it could have been. I definitely give them a thumbs up! We saw the sign for the Sportsman Lodge and followed the road to place (though we did drive by and have to turn around - it's easy to miss)! The parking lot was small but I get the feeling that's appropriate since Bigelow's sign said it had a population of about 38. The restaurant is in an old school house which is totally neat. The restaurant/bar is on the first second floor. There are some pretty neat pictures in there and old articles about the building line the stairways. The upstairs (which we peeked around in) had a poker table and a pool table and felt a bit more like a bar. My dining companion ate something which dared him to eat it off the menu. It was called The Field and was brisket with fries and slaw on the bun. He devoured it, juices and all dripping down his arms. He was quite the satisfied "sportsman." I chose The Haystack. It advertises itself as a grilled steak with cheese. And that's what it was. A steak (not sliced or anything) topped with cheese on a bun. It was pretty good, though the steak was a little tough which made it hard to eat in sandwich form. The staff was welcoming and friendly to people quite clearly passing through. I imagine if you were a hunter or visiting the nearby wildlife refuge, this place would be awesome. If we were passing through, I'm sure we'd eat here again.

A very quaint farmhouse that has been updated with all the modern conveniences yet the peace of days past. The owner, Aunt Martha, is very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. And breakfast was really yummy. We will definitely stay there again when we need to be in the area and recommend it highly. It's a delight to stay there and soooo much better than the other choices of very old motels nearby.

The rooms were clean and while not needed, it was great to see the accessibility options the hotel has in tub shower (even non-handicap rooms). The complimentary fridge, safe, and closet were nice amenities. My wife booked this stay and I'll admit, at first I thought I had some better options in town -- but this stay was a very pleasant surprise. I plan to stay here from now on when I visit. Bagels, English muffin, different kinds of bread available. There is a pancake machine but I didn't like that as much. Warm cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon and sausage also available. Milk, juice, coffee and water for drinks. All for free. Staff is attentive to make sure nothing runs out. Lots of places to sit and enjoy breakfast. Rooms are clean. TV is a good size and uses Direct TV so lots of channel options, including HBO. Bed and pillows are comfortable. Pillows are king size with firm and soft options. Fitness center is really small and usually quite warm but it does the job. I found a nice country road to run, just past the Kawasaki plant, which I prefer instead.

Each room has the comforts of your own TV with cable, but I felt more than welcome to be downstairs in the main room with the big-screen TV, a large fireplace, and lots of seating/recliner choices. Free wifi/internet is provided. For breakfast, Carol and Ron both chip-in and provide an excellent breakfast. There are 4 or more choices to choose from, and the night before - just place your order and time - and it'll be ready. I recommend Carol's special scrambled eggs (bacon, cheese, peppers, onions) - awesome! Because of the time of year, it didn't happened to have many other guests. The one downside - it has a shared bathroom. There are several bathrooms within the lodge, so I guess it wouldn't be too much of a problem. The highlight of the time spent here was getting to know the very sweet people of Ron and Carol. They are warm, open, kind, and generous people who are in the right business of serving others and sharing their home.
