Traveling here on business, this is a wonderful alternative to the several local hotels. With a motto of "Come here as a guest, and leave as family." -- it's more than true after my 3-day stay. Super comfy bed, and very quiet -- I slept just great! Lots of extra blankets and pillows if needed. Each room has the comforts of your own TV with cable, but I felt more than welcome to be downstairs in the main room with the big-screen TV, a large fireplace, and lots of seating/recliner choices. Free wifi/internet is provided. For breakfast, Carol and Ron both chip-in and provide an excellent breakfast. There are 4 or more choices to choose from, and the night before - just place your order and time - and it'll be ready. I recommend Carol's special scrambled eggs (bacon, cheese, peppers, onions) - awesome! Because of the time of year, it didn't happened to have many other guests. The one downside - it has a shared bathroom. There are several bathrooms within the lodge, so I guess it wouldn't be too much of a problem. The highlight of the time spent here was getting to know the very sweet people of Ron and Carol. They are warm, open, kind, and generous people who are in the right business of serving others and sharing their home.

We arrived late in the afternoon and we gone early that morning so my rating comes from the nights accommodations. Our room was larger than I expected, was clean and had all the amenities one would expect a hotel to have. Our stay was one of the more cost effective nights we had on our trip. Isobel was so kind to answer all my questions and dive into the history of St. Joe and the house itself, clearly a huge passion of hers. My wife and I stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite and it was so cozy we had a hard time leaving. I was impressed how clean and functional everything was given the age of the home, Isobel left no detail untouched. Isobel was always available to address our needs. I showed up to breakfast an hour early one morning by accident and that didn't matter, she adjusted for me. The next morning I showed up an hour late to breakfast, when I went downstairs expecting to only have coffee available, she still prepared and served us our breakfast which was so kind and not expected. My only concern before arriving was the location not being very central. Turns out I was wrong. My wife and I could get to any of the restaurants downtown or off Fredrick in 3 to 5 min drive. Everywhere else in town could be driven to within 10min. We'll be back. (PS - Glory is wearing a jacket in photos only because we were on our way out the door. The home was set a very comfortable temperature and our room had an independent thermostat just for us.)

With the SAC museum nearby, numerous state parks and outdoor activities, shopping at cute stores downtown, and fun places such as glacial till and Ashland brewing, this is the perfect location to stay overnight or for a weekend to be close to it all. Only two blocks from the main street of Ashland, we loved being able to walk into town and check everything out! They were super communicative from reaching out before booking to when we checked out. Any questions beforehand they answered, and gave great information for check in. At check-in, we were given a short tour of the house and shown all of the amenities the house has to offer. We also discussed breakfast options the next day, leaving us very excited for the food we heard great things about! We were given a code to the front door for our stay, allowing us to come and go as needed, with individual keys for each room. Each room had everything you could need, with some snacks and drinks provided right outside your room in the upstairs pantry! For dinner, we walked to Glacial Till less than 2 minutes away in downtown Ashland. The rooms were spacious and had great themes! We were very comfortable in the rooms, which were super cozy and had everything we needed and more. Items such as shampoo and conditioner were available in the room which was great for not having to worry about those if taking a short overnight trip. The porch was beautiful, with nice seating all around, allowing you to appreciate the quietness and get some fresh air. If you enjoy spa baths, the tubs in the rooms were large and enjoyable. Outside, there is a swim spa if you want to sit in the water or swim some laps as exercise. The area was very quiet and peaceful for a great night's sleep. The rooms also have Netflix to relax with and a noisemaker if you like that to fall asleep to. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh baked goods, great coffee, fruit, and then a hot course following the small baked goods we picked on as a starter. The stuffed French toast we had was amazing! As someone who also loves coffee, I really enjoyed the hot pot of coffee on the table. Plenty of teas, as well as fruit juice, was available if that is more your thing. Whether coming from Omaha or Lincoln for one overnight, coming for the weekend, or passing through on nearby I-80, The Roost is a great stop and very much worth the stay! We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely visit again!
