It has a vibe that reminds me of a cool place that doesn't need to try to be cool. The service was solid and we got to meet the owner and she had to be one of the coolest I've met. She chatted with us much of the night and all I can say is this is the place to be. I'll come back every time and this is my new go to in town. Huge serving of catfish, perfectly cooked and seasoned spicy, but not burn your mouth spicy. Service is good, but was a little slower than when I came here previously. This is in restored 1880 home. The sweet potato casserole was incredible, rich and comforting without being overly sweet, and the green beans were seasoned just right. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. Our kids ordered the chicken fingers and honestly they might have been even better than the fried chicken, which is saying something. Perfectly cooked and clearly not your typical frozen kids' menu food. Great food, great experience. We'll definitely be back.

Oh my, where do I begin in describing heaven on earth? My husband and I are traveling through MS…read moreand decide to have lunch in Vicksburg. We tool around town looking for a likely spot and happen upon the Juke Joint. We are made to feel welcome when we walk in the door and quickly seated in this very informal eatery. At this point, we have no idea what's on the menu and are expecting to grab a quick salad or sandwich. However, once we learn of the lunch buffet, we opt for that. Oh boy! Crispy fried chicken, smothered pork chops, tender field peas, cornbread muffins, creamy mac and cheese, chicken and dumplings like my grandmother used to make, braised cabbage, sweet potatoes. We clean our plates and waver over having blackberry cobbler for dessert, but better sense prevails. If you ever pass through Vicksburg, you have to try the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet, downhome southern food done flawlessly, and all that for about $10. Also check out the colorful and jazzy oil paintings.

The old antebellum house, a happy home, was quiet and the perfect ambiance. We dined on grilled grouper and shrimp and grits and both meals were just right. Joseph Emory Davis, patriarchal brother to Confederate Pres Jefferson Davis, the owner of Hurricane Plantation in Warren County, Jefferson Davis made his final speech from Anchuca's front balcony, near the Vicksburg Battlefield. We got here early and parked in the small parking lot. We wandered around all of the beautiful rooms from the period. We were seated in the library. Brunch entrées included a small salad or fruit cup, and a dessert. We enjoyed our salads with balsamic dressing. For an entrée, I chose seafood, gumbo, and my husband, the shrimp and grits. The cheesy, creamy grits with the best I ever tasted, and my husband doesn't like shrimp, but he devoured them. We're trying both desserts, the warm peach cobbler alamode and the white chocolate bread pudding were obscene. Our meal was delicious, service, impeccable, and the setting spectacular.

A slight deviation into Flora down First street and one lap around the block. The sign was so small we missed it and the parking lot is torn up and under renovation. Not an easy place to find at first. The small amount of signage tells you that this is a place only the locals are ment to know about. For those of you who look on Yelp for this place the Big Nasty is no longer on the menus. However it is available as a custom order if you want to try it. It's the photo of the Big Nasty and the name that drew me in. The cooks recommendation of their signature burger persuaded my choice. I went for the Fire House. Grilled home made burger patty with the choice of plump and juicy or smashed. Melted cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and pickles on a jalapeño bun. I got the green chilies on the side. The owner recommended that because they buy fresh and can never determine the heat. Great idea. I tasted first and then layered the sweet peppery heat to my liking. It also came with dipping sauce options for the fries. I went with the Mississippi style comeback sauce. Found myself topping the chilies with it. What a great tasting, burger. Well seasoned patty, great cheese and salad combo and the spice and zing from the peppers complemented the comeback. The Blue Rooster is a worth while and totally tasty burger detour if you are passing Flora around lunch time. Another local gem.

He said "delicious". I had the rooster burger with hand cut sweet potato fries dipped in ranch. The onion was sweet and mild, tender butter lettuce and what appeared to be a homegrown hot house tomato. Impressive considering it's March 1. I personally felt the bun was a little heavy compared to the meat and enjoyed mine with the top of a jalapeño cheddar bun only. A really great burger. Sweet and creamy banana pudding. A good southern ckasWe took a piece of butterfinger cheese cake home. I forgot pics of the burgers but feast your eyes on the cheesecake!
