Went for my first aerial yoga class through Groupon. Nice that they have lockers but I don't know…read morewhy they need to take your picture "for reference". This was an all levels class but it seemed like most people have been here before. The instructor just jumped right in with no intro or anything. Although it's a relatively small class of 12, I feel like you don't get help if you need it. I just felt really uncomfortable the whole time, both emotionally and physically. Emotionally because he didn't really slow down or show any modifications, he just demonstrated and has us try. The way he explained wasn't very technical either, so I wasn't sure whether I was doing it right or not. Also, I didn't like that he commented sometimes in cantonese. Just because the students are mostly Chinese doesn't mean that you should assume they understand it. Physically uncomfortable because the hammock was too high for me and it wasn't adjustable. He said that it's okay if it's too high because I'm going to invert upside down anyway. Somebody fell down and he calmly continued teaching, later asking if she was okay. Maybe it's his teaching style, but I just don't feel comfortable going to another one of his classes.

I had a really good experience at this yoga studio. They offer Hanuman Yoga, which is taught no…read morewhere else in Toronto, aerial yoga classes and some other classes. The Instructor is really helpful and he has other students and assistants in the class to help students get into the poses if you sign up for any of the All Level Classes. I took a Hanuman Yoga class which was really hard. This class uses a yoga strap, which you use to invert yourself from the ceiling and to perform all of the poses. I actually found this class a little too difficult for myself but I did appreciate all of the help from the instructor, his assistant and the other classmates. At this studio they have a few aerial yoga classes. The traditional aerial yoga class is done very high off the floor and was much more difficult than all of the other aerial yoga classes I have ever been to. I have a few more classes at this studio and am going to try the aerial yoga class, which happens on Wednesday evening since I was told it it done much closer to the ground. I think it will be more in line with the other aerial yoga classes I have done in the past. The studio also has a Hatha yoga class which is completed on the floor and if the other aerial yoga class is too difficult I might check that one out on a Sunday to see what I think of it.

I've been to a couple different pole studios across the GTA, and I find UV classes generally more…read moreintimate in size, which means more attention from your instructors! The vibe is very warm here as well (I've been there over a year now), and the community's invested in your pole progress at your pace. One of my favourite classes is Czarina's Strength & Flexibility--she's super good at helping you develop that body awareness, and it's one of the classes I frequent more consistently. Each instructor has something different to offer and they all have varying styles and strengths! I recommend trying a variety (go for that unlimited intro-month at $80 if it's accessible to you) to figure out which instructing style best works for your fitness journey, as well as the types of things you'd like to develop like pole basics, coordination, musicality, presence, strength, or flexibility.

After attending 4 classes with 3 different teachers (Iris, Elisa and Diana), my body do feels…read moredifferent. Not only am I sore with some new bruise acquisitions; I'm also starting to notice muscles I didn't know I had, I feel energetic, excited to go back, and I even consider the classes as therapy (they have helped me to relieve my moodiness...). I like the studio; it's surroundings are great because you can have lunch, take a coffee or an ice cream while you wait for class, plus Eglinton West Station is just 2 stops away. Although at the moment the studio only offers classes (week days) at evening (from 6-9), & weekends from noon till 3, I saw a poster that says they'll start classes on mornings too (yei!!!). Would you like to learn a super fun kick boxing way to warm up? Have you dreamed about throwing yourself to the floor in an elegant&sexy way? Do you like adrenaline? Then you should drop in to check Iris classes on Mondays (levels 3 and up). She'll also challenge your balance, stability, strength and determination with spinning poles. Las Wednesday I took Verti Barre. Elisa (who is extra witty) decided to shake us salsa style: sexy-fun moves synchronized with a J Lo tune (awesome). This class really helped me to spot the mistakes I was making when performing some moves (I started learning with videos...). Yesterday (Monday), I put my Rocky Balboa attitude and decided to take 2 hours of pole. Inversions with Diana were like joining an army camp (after 1 month you would be ready for mudderella). No pain no gain sist!! Those perfectly flowing moves upside down need hours of squeezing, breathing, ouches, and a collection of marks. However, once you reach your move, you won't be able to hide your joy and the pole passion will take possession of your life (don't pole drunk in the subway please). Ultra Violet offers promotions, drop in cards for individual classes, or the 1 month membership ($140+tax)) which aloud you to try as many classes as you want/tolerate.
