I had 3rd stage lung cancer and require restaging chest/abdomen and pelvic CTs w IV Contrast every three months. In December the radiologist wrote that I had an "Interval Upper Left Lobectomy." I'll translate, "She had the upper left lobe of her lung surgically removed." I DIDN'T have surgery. You'd think I'd remember that. Amending the report took months. It's important to know that I have BOTH LUNGS don'tcha think? The amount of paperwork and begging for the radiologist to simply speak to my oncologist was ridiculous. It never happened. I had to get them to amend the report myself. This Monday I went for my 3 month restaging CT w IV Contrast. The prescription says exactly that. I was told, "You need to drink contrast so you'll have to come back another time" I showed her that the order says WITH IV CONTRAST not ORAL contrast AND that you have done my previous CT's with IV Contrast. You have a note from my oncologist saying "PATIENT DOES NOT TOLERATE ORAL CONTRAST" She said, "You can call your Dr. and have him (she's a her) send a new prescription and we can do the scan today. You have 10 minutes." I was able to reach a receptionist in my oncologists office who knows me. My doctor only works there Tuesdays and Fridays. This was a Monday. The receptionist was able to uncheck a box so that the order was clearer. She stayed on the phone with me to make sure the prescription was clearer and faxed. So, I got the CT w IV contrast. The tech told me I'd have results next day. So now it's been four days. No results. I was told to call Boca Records and sign the same privacy documents to release results to myself as I did in December when I had to correct my own findings. That was the wrong thing. Finally, 2 days later I was told to call Hagen Ranch instead. I did that. I called Hagen Ranch and was told "It's vacation time, so you'll have to give it 3-5 more days. This is cancer restaging. Unfortunately, after reflecting on my experience, I feel people deserve to know what happened. I was initially told I had Stage I breast cancer, and Baptist Health Lynn had my MRI and was ready to schedule my surgery with Dr. Pestana. Before moving forward, I decided to get a second opinion at Miami Cancer Institute. Their team carefully reviewed the same MRI and identified suspicious lymph nodes that had not been addressed. A lymph node biopsy confirmed that my cancer had spread to my lymph nodes, changing my diagnosis to Stage II breast cancer. Because of that, I canceled my surgery at Lynn and continued my treatment at Miami Cancer Institute. Looking back, I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I had not sought a second opinion. It changed my treatment plan completely. I could say much more about my experience, but I'll leave it at that. Based on my personal experience, I would not choose this facility again and strongly encourage anyone facing a serious diagnosis to seek a second opinion before making treatment decisions.

The facility is located off Spanish River Boulevard And University just north of the FAU campus. There was plenty of parking right in front and the facility. My appointment was March 4 at 10 AM. The facility looks very nice when you walk inside. The waiting room is welcoming and very clean and it wasn't very crowded. I still had to wait about 15 minutes before they called my name. They never sent me any information for pre-registration and there was no place on their website to add any of my information. Checking in took a while because the poor woman behind the desk was multitasking and helping everyone else. Once they had my insurance and payment information, it was quick before I was seen. The technician was excellent and so friendly, My first impression was...this technology is old. It does the job, but it's old. Now, today is April 3 and I still do not have the results from that CT scan. I was able to get it from my doctors office so I know everything is fine. BUT you're dealing with people's health. I left two messages to get the results of the scans with NO Response. Finally I was able to reach someone who said I could come and pick up the paperwork. No one said that I needed to pick up the radiologists results during my appointment. So let me say this AGAIN ... you're dealing with people's health. They need to know the results as soon as they are available.
