About 1000 feet of wood needed to be ripped up leaving an exposed rough, uneven, nail filled concrete sub-floor. I was faced with either getting new wood floors or something else- I went polished concrete. I solicited a few quotes, but ultimately went with CDC due to Chris and his honesty about the job from the start. Their price was fair, they seemed better in my mind- I was right. On time they came in, their crew performed the work quickly. They helped me carry last things off my floor to prep it (not in contract scope) and explained a detailed timeline and what I could expect. Noise, dust, accidental spatter were assumed on my part. Sure, there was dust from concrete grinding, but how could there not be? Anyway- within less than one week from a hellish debacle and not knowing how it would turn out I love my floors. They look great- I have no complaints thus far after a few weeks. The finish looks good, and the attention to detail (they had to pour under cabinets and up to carpeted stairs and to many closet entrances) was superior. Jake (the foreman) ran a tight ship and had his guys cleaning up every aspect of community (condo halls) property after the whole gig was completed. In all, the price was fair. The guys were great. A simple concrete overlay with minimal natural texture. Here is what transpired next. Floor #1- Day one none of the equipment was working (grinder and vacuum). the job was to be 3.5 days and already would be 2 days over due. The 1st floor had lots of "fan" pattern texture. Clearly Chris had not told Jake and the team what I wanted. 20ft away was a whole office with what I was wanting. ** Not listening to customer wants/needs Floor #2- Jake was nice and agreed with Chris to redo the floor using a different material. This batch was "bad" and was overstock from another job. Fair enough, they have to buy minimum amounts. They agreed to redo it a third time. ** Poor material management. Floor #3- Floor was better but had HUGE swirl marks and major color contrast issues in 3-4 areas. Basically the whole floor was grey and in 4 spots there was dark grey swirls and drips. At this point I was fine to let it go. Not what I really wanted, but was willing to move on. ** Was not honest about what they can actually do. The breaking point issue was with the clear top coat. Jake and crew put down the clear coat and I paid the remainder thinking all would be ok. Jake agreed on a discounted price as the job took weeks to finish instead of the agreed upon 3-4 days. ** DO NOT pay until the final coat is FULLY DRY! However, the top coat dried with white spots and roller marks all over. I called/text to tell them how it dried and that it did not look like anything we agreed upon. In short, after another couple of weeks going back and forth they said I had to pay the FULL amount if I wanted them to come back out and redo the top coat as per our agreement. ** At the end of the day they DO NOT CARE about their customers if the cost of THEIR mistakes are too high. My time and inconvenience was of no concern. Crappy Co. Crappy materials and just a bad Co. to deal with.

I got five quotes,…read morechecked references on line, and asked for referrals from the insulation company we used who are the ones who tore up our bathroom to begin with due to condensation as a result of poor insulation at the rim joists. Ken was not the highest or the lowest quote I received. However, he was the most consistent and responsive with the best reputation. After the job was done - his quote matched the price I paid! Drywall Day: Let me tell you - the insulation guys tore up my bathroom. Their cuts were jagged, they had spray foam everywhere, they stapled plastic into every wall, and I felt terrible for the drywall people who had to put it back together. Ken sent two men to repair the drywall. They were quiet guys, but extremely respectful of my home and very professional. They replaced over 50 square feet of drywall that was sloped up to a ten foot ceiling. They even did some minor repair to the walls/window sill to prepare it for painting the following week. Their taping and skill with replacing the drywall put me at ease immediately that I made the right decision in choosing Ken for this job. These guys were really top notch. Painting Day: Ken let me know ahead of time that drywall and painting would be about a week apart. I was completely fine with this and I really appreciated him letting me know proactively about the scheduling. His excellent communication allowed me to have reasonable expectations of what to expect for scheduling and timing of the job. Painting went smoothly. Ken is punctual, polite, funny, and most importantly - he is very skilled! This is not exactly a tiny bathroom and it has a lot of obstacles like two large vanities, a shower, a jaccuzi tub, mirrors, etc. He painted the ceilings in the bathroom, water closet, and hallway. While the ceiling dried Ken prepped the walls. Ken was a true professional working with speed, efficiency, and a great attention to detail. The lines where the wall meet the ceiling were sharp and not wavy. I really dislike when I walk into a room and look up and you can see where an unsteady hand made wavy paint lines into the white of the ceiling - Ken's lines were crisp and just as I would expect them to be when paying a professional to do the job. Once the paint was up on the ceiling and walls it was also clear what an outstanding job the drywall guys did as well. You could not see a drywall seam - it is flawless. I recommend Ken for any painting and drywall needs. He himself is a true professional and obviously takes great pride in his work. Based on my experience with his drywall team, he only hires the best to work alongside him. I already requested to be added to his schedule to paint our nursery and put up a chair rail (preliminary quote is between $500-600 for that job INCLUDING paint and chair rail). Ken also does remodeling - I really look forward to using him for several tile jobs, vanity replacements, back-splash, etc in the future.

Every single promise was broken, my family was put through too much of unnecessary drama filled with countless excuses and tremendous amounts of stress from start to finish due to lack of basic job site oversight, utter negligence, disregard for safety, and simply horrible communication throughout the project. The job was supposed to be completed in under a month starting in late September 2020 (pending favorable weather conditions), we're going on our full YEAR now in September of 2021, so this project has been out of control. They were hired to restore and repair the damaged brick around 2 of the basement windows and perform full house tuckpointing on an older historic house built in 1930's. About a week after the work started, the original crew was switched with a promise of a "better one" and then the problems began escalating fast. The very first day, the new (second) crew left a forty foot ladder unsecured and abandoned the job site in the middle of the day, the ladder came crashing down and tore off the downspout, thankfully not hurting anyone but causing a lot of anxiety to my family and neighbors that have kids running around and cars parked nearby. The downspout remained collapsed in my front yard and not fixed through fall, winter, spring and summer months causing the rain water pour down free from the roof on the walls. Next, they set up the scaffolding on the front of my house and again disappeared for days on end without any communication or coherent explanations and then days turned into weeks of this abandoned scaffolding with loose boards sometimes flying off during the storms and threatening our picture-windows. When the workers eventually came back to continue the work, the quality was so poor (many blade scuffs on brick faces of the front wall, mortar color mismatch, irreparable damage to the ornamental limestones and front door frame) and the company owner was virtually absent - despite many promises to be at the site daily - unresponsive to my calls, I had no other choice but to seek the original subcontractors of the first crew myself, thankfully they were still in the area working on a friend's house. At that time, I was reassured that my house was going to take priority with everything fixed and finished in a linear fashion, crews switched back, and with no more delays (weather permitting). Well, this dragged on to winter time and the project had to stop until spring. When project resumed in March, the engagement was very spotty due to the intermittent weather but seemed to have been put "back on track" with my constant calling and texting to ensure that a schedule of work is communicated and delivered as promised. Then, everything just halted and again the crew disappeared for over 4 months, showing up only to unload materials for the remaining work and barely resuming on what's left of the house at the end of June. We were told numerous stories about what is happening basically holding us hostage at our own house with scattered debris, hanging cable lines and sand piles in the middle of our driveway while they were apparently doing other jobs. Unacceptable conduct. It took me literally hundreds of texts with "what's going on" and "any updates" (most of which went unanswered) to get to the bottom of the issue that seemed to have been stemming from some broken deals between the subcontractors and the owner, and money owed from the other aggressive underbids being paid for by the false promises of future work. According to the subcontractor, it was some kind of pyramid scheme. The owner, of course, offered his side of the story, but, in the end, the project remained on hold until another (third) crew was brought to complete the project in late August. The third crew was somewhat more diligent and mostly on time but not highly skilled as became evident by the sloppy overbrushed mortar on bricks, another chipped glass block window in the basement and, to add insult to injury, complete mortar color mismatch on the last wall and touchups. These so called "touchups" look like someone vomited on our walls and then attempted to spread it around. By the way, I have agreed to pay higher than the originally asked price for the job to get it finished, the owner wouldn't even handle this part, instead I had to pay the subcontractors directly (first and second crews only, we didn't pay extra for the third crew). In any case, I was promised that the additional projected cost would come off as a discount for my next project (driveway, front porch); however, this discount never actually materialized on paper, and, needless to say, we won't be doing any more future business with this company. This project was a colossal failure in every aspect: bad quality of work, non existent time management, awful communication and way over budget.
