I love independents jewellers for their manufacturing. But my dealings with Wishart take a…read moredifferent turn. My necklace (or gold chain) I used to wear around a lot broke a few months ago. The hook broke and I couldn't wear it anymore. My girlfriend at the time wasn't too upset. She thought the chain made me look like a wog. (And, to her credit, it kind of did.) But it was a gift from my godfather for my baptism, and I've always liked it. So, after splitting with that girl, I thought it was as good a time as any to get my old gold chain fixed. I'd mainly been putting it off for expense. I didn't think it would cost TOO much, but I couldn't be sure. Finally, biting the figurative bullet, I went for it. It turns out, it wasn't even really broken. Something had just come a little loose, and I'd wedged it the wrong way. I still don't really understand the particulars of the situation. All I know is the brilliant staff at Wishart gave it one look, gave it a few prods, returned it to me on the spot, and charged nothing. I will be returning.

However, one bright and sunny day I was drawn to a window display and decided to venture in. Bimbo is not full of short skirts and handbags. In fact, it is a really funky and quirky gift and homewares store. Whether it is your friend's birthday, your birthday or if you need to get a monkey magic pillow for your couch; Bimbo has something for you. The store is full of interesting items that will suit almost anyone. They have a great collection of novelty books, designer jewellery, clocks, watches, and toys; the list goes on... Bimbo has actually been one of Adelaide's long-standing unique gift stores for over 10 years. So you know that they have quality items. I have found the funniest gifts in this store for my friends; like a book called "Let's draw a c**k on it" and "How to speak to a zombie". Brilliant! I should not forget to mention that homeware items are super cool, like clocks made from records, funky vintage styled clocks, cool picture frames and flask essential oil burners. So, if you are stuck for a birthday or chrissie present, this is the ultimate gift destination in CBD.

You'll always find something interesting in here. A great place to find gifts, they have a selection of men's watches and jewelry that is attractive yet different. If you're looking for original cuff-links, this is where you'll find them. There are little old-style books of pick-up and come-on lines and diaries with "My Sex Life" written loudly on the front. Their range of bags is fantastic. They come in all sizes and designs, and nothing in here is plain. If you're looking for something simple and elegant, Bimbo is not your shop. For silly stuffed toys, retro clocks, fantastic woven earrings, and a whole ton of creativity, you can't go past Bimbo.

I have been to Germany and their equivalent to this shop is very similar to the German Village. It had stein glasses, clocks and every other German artefact. I love the cuckoo clocks. My friend recently got a tattoo of one on her leg and I have realised how beautiful they are. I don't know if I would be a fan of having a bird tweet at me every hour but they are so good to look at. I also love the stein glasses. 1 litre of beer! If you are not up for this challenge, they are great water glasses. Especially when you are thirsty, normal glasses never seem to hold enough water. Stein glasses on the other hand hold heaps, perfect for next to your bed when you come home from a big night (of drinking beer ofcourse). Unfortunately I didn't talk to the staff too much so I didn't find out whether the owners came from Germany. However, with the accuracy of the shop I wouldn't be surprised if they were. If you are looking for an Australian rip-off of German souvenirs I would recommend heading here!

Serafina Boutique sells loads of bags, bracelets, beads and assorted baubles to make your outfit come to life. They also have earrings, watches, pendants and the odd piece of clothing. Everything is reasonably priced but the clothing all seems to be around the $100 mark which I think is a little on the pricey side given what it is - mostly overshirts and smock tops to wear with leggings. They also don't appear to have a large stock of clothing items so if you see something you like I suggest you get in quick. The staff seemed really helpful and keen to have a chat with their customers - I'm a sucker for a good salesperson because there's so few and far between these days. I predict this small business will do well because they have nabbed a prime position in the newly renovated Unley Shopping Centre. They're not at the Unley Road entrance but around the corner at the new entrance on Arthur Street with big windows facing onto the street and the carpark. Everyone who passes can see right into the shop and their displays. Who needs advertising!

Ok, so the last two things don't actually happen, but I bet you clenched your cheeks when you read them! I accepted it and assured her I wouldn't do such a thing, but she kept following me. I'm no shrinking violet so I asked her politely to stop. Her response was, it's my shop, I can walk around it if I want to. I tried to ignore her, but she kept appearing before me and then next she reminded me to wrap the lipstick brush in the tissue she had given me and to put it in the bin she pointed to. National Pharmacies Optical is not as cheap as say your Big W Optical stores. Let's face it, buying glasses is an expensive purchase these days so I say take advantage of discounts when you can.
