If your child likes to walk in the rain and have wet clothes/shoes all day, be taught by ill-prepared teenagers with rude, dramatic attitudes , be separated from the few friends they make, be crammed into 2 person rooms with 3 people, have little quality acting instruction, have their phone confiscated for all but 20 min a day (10:10 PM - 10:30 PM only access) then this might be for you. Now that I actually got to talk to my daughter and hear the truth about this camp, I can see why they don't want the students to be able to report their experiences to their families. I hear kids are dropping out fast. I thought no phones during the day made sense but 20 min? Please...this is not a punishment. It wasn't supposed to be anyway. My daughter is begging to leave. She likes the vocal teacher (an actual adult) and the food, but she hates being woken up by teenagers blaring loud music kicking doors and flipping on lights like shes in the military. Why not let her set an alarm on her phone? Don't take your child here. I feel like i got scammed. Now it's become a lesson in perseverance and gratitude for life outside this horrible camp. She went to learn musical theatre, not whatever this is. I want my money back. Never again! Now you know...wish i had found an honest review before.

It is an intense three week camp that zeros in on the area of your choice. You can take singing classes from professional instructors, dance classes from people that have been ON BROADWAY! You can take acting classes from the one and only David Valdes. The friends that you make at TAP are also a great part of the experience. I made friends my first year, and we stayed in contact all year long until we met up again at TAP the next year. They really are like my family. The general atmosphere is a very positive one. Everyone is always happy and supportive, and they all want to just be your friend. It is a great place to learn your craft and to fine tune it. If there were not an age limit, then I quite honestly might continue to attend throughout college. If you are unsure of whether or not to go, GO! I cannot urge you more. Make the decision, and your life will be better for the rest of your life.

My shy daughter gets up on stage and performs with confidence, and my son who resisted going to acting camp this summer was sold after his first day-he declared Alana crazy and fun (which is high praise in his book). A summer musical for kids at a price that can't be beat...FREE! I love free…read more This year they performed The Curious Case of Rumplestiltskin. It was a little over an hour long, a perfect length of time for the kids. The music was campy and the costumes, lights, props, and sets were colorful enough to hold the attention of my 22 month old. I think it was a hit for her first play/musical experience. The George Washington Carver Museum & Cultural Center Boyd Vance Theatre is small and holds about 130 people. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. They started handing out tickets about an hour before the 11am show. They opened the doors about a half hour before the show. All first come, first served. They had free face painting, a free raffle, Girl Scout patches for $3, and T-shirts for $10-15. Donations are accepted to benefit the production. At the end, they have all the actors come out and sign the kid's programs and hand out little toy trinkets. My princess was most infatuated with the three little piggies character. She was so excited to meet them! Can't wait to go back next year!

It has been a breath of fresh air having small classes at One - 6 to 10 kids - where the teacher can really focus, teach and correct. My daughter looks forward to all her classes - and it is a lot! - but her technique and skill have improved more than I can say! She looks confident and strong on stage. She wants to continue and eventually make it on point. The other students at the studio are wonderful as are the teachers. It really is a very positive and supportive place to dance. I'm very grateful!

I saw Raped Clarity at the Gemini and was fairly impressed with the space and how they use it. When…read moreyou first enter, you arrive at a very professional ticket and snack counter, and paintings and photographs by a local artist adorn the walls. I enjoyed a nice Malbec while surveying the works, which seemed to exemplify a simple, contemporary style infused with elements of pop culture - such as you would find in greeting cards and cartoons. Some of them were quite clever, and even the photographs somehow speak to the modern style and popular ambitions of this theatre's proprietor. Despite my fine first impression, there were quite a few problems. Seating is unfortunately folding, metal chairs - but at least they were the padded kind. The stage itself was quite good - raised a foot or so above the floor, with adequate space and entrance portals, and decent sound - but the lighting was barely adequate and could not possibly be useful in most, true theatrical productions. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of Raped Clarity was marred by the lack of quality lighting. Finally, the script itself has problems, with incongruities that tend to distract one's attention as the action unfolds. Glaring examples include an inconsistent, unprofessional, and even unethical psychologist character. If this were a minor, peripheral character, perhaps the problem would not exist or it might be insignificant, but this is a central character that helps drive the action throughout the heroine's journey. Some minor problems with props may have simply been mistakes during the particular performance I attended, and these might not necessarily be blocking and choreography errors. The dialogue, in general, is problematic, with some vocabulary and word choices that seem inconsistent with the characters who deliver them and the situations in which they are delivered. By far the best performance in this production was that of the heroine's father, an archetypal southern working man and alcoholic. This character functioned as both an anti-hero and comic relief, and was oddly endearing. The heroine's mother was also a good performance, and contributed some fine, comic moments, but the character was fraught with some of the aforementioned dialogue problems. Raped Clarity is a work in progress and may very well be autobiographical, representing the author's sorting out of her own psyche after experiencing rape. I find, in fact, that the only way that I can reconcile the various characters and situations of this play is to consider them as symbolical. Indeed, I conclude that each character and situation represents an aspect of the heroine's - and perhaps the author's - own mind as she works toward recovery after a violent rape. This is the only way Raped Clarity makes any sense to me.

I would highly recommend the Gemini for shows, rehearsals, and events.
