I have loved the Alamo Drafthouse for so long. The pre-show - worth the price of admission. But I hate the new phone ordering system. It makes no sense to tell your customers to use their phones to order and then switch to using pencil and paper once the movie starts. Now I'm sitting there, trying to help my 74-year old mom figure out how to use her phone. I wish this company would just shell out the money to pay for more waiters. What I'd expect from Alamo Drafthouse. The set up was a bit confusing upon parking as it's along side other shops in the same parking lot. The entry way reminded me of an old school media shop and of course the decor throughout followed suit. Theaters were in a split fashion and the seating while similar to other locations was quite loud when they were being used. Service is as expected, prompt and friendly. I just got a sweet tea (second one wasn't so sweet) and popcorn w/butter. Nice and simple. read more

Always loved Alamo but now it does not feel special or unique anymore. First they added automatic 18% gratuity which was fine but the service went down considerably. Now theyve gone to ordering on your phone which takes all the human out of it but they still charge 18% service fee for zero service other than dropping your food at your seat. To add even more insult they default to adding another 5% to your bill if you don't close out in a timely manner. There is no service to warrant any fee much less a punitive fee of additional 5% very sneaky. If I come back to Alamo I will eat before I go and will not order. I absolutely detest the phones during the movie. Requiring people to be present during the movie made Alamo Special as did interacting with cool Alamo servers who really cared about your experience. I miss ALAMO! Please bring back our beloved movie going experience. It almost seems the corporation that took over our beloved Alamo is trying to destroy Alamo from the inside out. read more

Went to Alamo for the first time in a while today. Paid a 4 dollar fee to get tickets online. Could not get the app to work for food and no button to push for help. Had to leave the theater and go to the front desk for help. No one was at the front desk. Waited almost 5 min for someone to show up (was not the only one waiting). Once we finally ordered we were told if we want anything else or refills will have to leave the theater to get it. When you say bottomless drinks or popcorn, how does that work? Prices where supper high and charged 18% tip for them to bring food to us (once) with no refills. We spent almost 120 dollars for two people to see a movie share a pizza and salad, two glasses of wine and a diet coke (no refills). This is why I don't go to see movies anymore. This is a solid, small Alamo location. With four theatres there's always a first run major motion picture running in one or two theaters. The theaters have upgraded seats, which are very comfortable! The seats also have individual tables with individual menus. The service I've received here has been very good. The only issue I've found is that when leaning back in the chairs the table edge blocks part of the screen. read more

I decided to try this theater again after many years after a bad experience. It seems things haven't changed. The staff is overly critical about patrons talking or using cell phones. In the row in front of me a staffer came and reprimanded two patrons for talking. I never heard them talking at all. The staffer was way more disruptive than the patrons. Before it happened, I saw him standing in the aisle looking to bother someone. This is why i quit going in the first place. Previously, we got warned because my daughter was laughing too loud during a kids movie. So don't go if you plan on enjoying a movie. read more

We absolutely love coming here for regular Master Pancake shows. It's a cool arthousy feeling theater -- not one of those sprawling ginormous megaplexes. The servers are always really kind and happy to bring tasty drinks and snacks to our seats. My favorite tip is that you can always order a nice icy glass of soda water with lime for free. I also love chanting along with the sassy pre-show no-phones disclaimer. And if you've never seen a Master P show, you're in for a treat! read more

This is the worst theater ever! I have never been treated with such disrespect and contempt. Inconsiderate and lazy staff. Each one saying that's not my job ask someone else. I had stepped outside to vape for a moment and return a text, only to realize that the doors were locked, at 8pm?! I waited for someone to let in. Missing the movie. The staff behind the counter looked at me, I'm motion the door is locked. They went back to working. When someone was leaving I made it side only to find a second set of locked doors. Again the staff saw me and did nothing. So I left, seeing only 30 minutes of the movie. The place has only a few vegan options, I suspect they don't like vegans. Probably because most vegans are kind people, unlike the staff. I had a season pass, this was my first time I tried to use it. I was severely disappointed. I cancelled it. I emailed them and they said they would refund me for the season pass, but they failed to do so. Just another employee who refuses to do their job. The Drafthouse is my go to theater in Austin and I love what they did with remodel of this location. When you first walk through the door you are greeted with an art installation, which I really like. (Picture attached)Then you are transported back to a 90's Blockbuster video store. They had really cool themed walls with comfortable seating as well. I really enjoy the new seats as well, super comfortable and love the reclining function. The service is always impeccable. their popcorn in the best in the game, and I really enjoy the buffalo cauliflower wings. That paired with their vegan ranch is out-freaking-standing! read more

Came here for a solo movie night. This was my first time at this Alamo Drafthouse location. A nice cozy and classic spot for movie nights! They have easy parking so that was very helpful. I will say when I first came in it was a bit confusing (I may have missed a sign or two). All the theater and seating info is on your ticket so that helps. But once you find your seat in the theater, the staff is very attentive. They are very fast about getting your orders in before the movie starts. I also had a request to save my cookies until my main meal came (to keep them warm) and they accommodated that very nicely. Menu has some great options for non meat eaters which I really appreciate. You definitely wanna arrive early so you can get served on time! The beyond burger is very tasty! read more

I'm only giving one star because I can't give zero. I repeatedly pressed the call button for the waiter and they never came. Many times the waiter served the people next to me and when I tried to talk to them for help they simply walked away and ignored me. One instance was when I said "excuse me, can you come help me" as I waved at them to come over. They simply waved back and left. So disappointed to go to Alamo Drafthouse tonight and learn that they have gotten rid of all their servers, asking patrons to order from their mobile app. There are no points for irony that we were seeing a movie whose main point was that technology and corporate finance baloney is destroying art and human connection (Devil Wears Prada 2) in a company that I used to appreciate so much for it's human touch. What happened to those servers who created a great atmosphere for so long? This is the company that got so famous for the personal touch for patrons--kicking out rude audience members, GIVING WARNINGS AGAINST USING CELL PHONES during a movie. Save your food/beverage receipt and check your account balance on the card you used to pay. Alamo Drafthouse will double charge you, and it's not just the 2nd swipe with the tip added (they already added the 18% tip on the first swipe). This has happened on our two most recent movie dates at two different Alamo locations in Austin. The first time was Nov 2025 at Alamo South Lamar. I checked my bank account a few weeks later and saw that Alamo charged my debit card twice for the same exact amount. And it just happened again in January 2026 at Alamo Slaughter Ln. (we had to drive all the way south to Slaughter to see Lord of the Rings). I checked my account this morning and noticed that yet again my card has an unauthorized charge from Alamo Drafthouse. Good luck getting in touch with Alamo Drafthouse to question the charges. I got no reply from Alamo when I submitted a complaint to them in November. The best approach is to dispute the charge with your bank or credit card company. read more

I wish I could give this location a lower rating. I usually enjoy going to Alamo for movie nights, but this particular location left me extremely disappointed. I arrived just five minutes after the movie's listed start time, and was immediately told we couldn't be let in due to their "strict policy" about late arrivals. Apparently, once the doors close, that's it--even though the actual movie doesn't start until after 15 minutes of previews. The staff member at the door told us we could request a refund, and even admitted how ridiculous the policy is. While trying to help us, another manager came over and gave off a "why are you helping them?" attitude that made the whole situation even more uncomfortable. I could tell the employee felt embarrassed and unsupported. I understand having policies, but there needs to be clearer communication before purchase--especially if you're not going to make reasonable exceptions. It's buried in fine print, and that's not fair to paying customers. This whole experience lacked empathy and made me think twice about ever coming back to this location. read more

With the upsurge in a better home movie experience and streaming having new releases earlier in a film's lifecycle, it's easy to see why the neighborhood cinema is suffering a little. What many forget is how truly special the occasion can be. Alamo Drafthouse maintains and even strives to create an atmosphere where the customer feels special. I recently watched a movie at Alamo Drafthouse in at 2700 W Anderson Ln and I was extremely impressed. Thinking with an outdated philosophy of arriving early to get my seat even though it's reserved I had a little extra time to absorb the surroundings. Driving to the faciality is quick from south of Austin and parking is a breeze. Walking up I felt like the façade was a time machine taking me back to the 80s as the architecture is older. That said once I got in, the place has a lot of character. Lots of old paintings, posters from movies that were made before I was born and even the carpet from The Shining! I rather liked it as I felt like a kid again. My movie selection Mission Impossible opening weekend so it was a packed theatre. My only point of contention is the slope isn't very steep which means you better hope a giant doesn't sit in front of you! The menu has a lot of tempting selections but I like my popcorn with movies. I ended up getting the truffle herb parmesan popcorn and it came in a huge metal bowl. The popcorn was so good I believe this was the first time I've ever eaten all of it. The popcorn was perfectly cooked and the amount of butter, parm and truffle flavors were in each bite. Truly perfect. As for the theatre the screens weren't in IMAX but it was in 70mm which meant the visual experience was exactly the way many prominent film makers prefer their films. As for the audio it was Dolby Atmos which means speakers are everywhere, on the sides, in front & back and in the ceiling. So, when those planes fly over you, it sounds like they're directly above your head. Also, the chairs are very comfy with enough elbow room next to a neighbor and they recline to making napping an option if the movie is a romantic movie that your date wants to experience. The facilities are very safe and the bathrooms are clean and easily accessible. Moreover, the servers or attendants (not sure what they're called) are polite, don't disturb your movie experience and quick to get your orders to you. The movie experience was everything it should be and I loved it. Overall, the one nitpicking issue I had was the slope of the seating yet it wasn't an issue in my case, just a concern I can see happening. Other than that, it's a great place to go on a date or just catch the latest movie release. I give my experience 5 stars and encourage anyone to give it a shot. read more

Alamo is a great time away. The service is great, and I have my favorite food items. Sometimes I get a server that recognizes me and knows what I am going to order. However, I do think the new online ordering is more efficient. I visited last week, went in to order my usual and, the queso is now called beer queso and gone is the check box that offers extra chips. Whoa. What was wrong with the other queso? I decided to chance it anyway. I dip the chip and my first thought is what beer? All I tasted was something bitter, not very cheesy. I pushed the button. I asked, is this new queso? It doesn't taste like beer or cheese. I was told they now make it w blue cheese. What? I asked for something else. I don't understand the change. Why not offer both types? Would it be unheard of to send a survey to your frequent visitors, to test the ideas before making a big change? read more

The Drafthouse is known for good beer, great food, and an excellent film selections. This location hits all those markets perfectly! However, this venue only holds a few screens due to it being a smaller building. That makes the parking a little crowded, and the same is true for the restroom. Once you're in your theater you should expect exactly the same experience as any other Drafthouse - wonderful. It's as good am experience as you'll have anywhere else. The staff is actually the most personable theater staff I've ever interacted with. They go above and beyond to offer the best experience. They even offered to take our payment card before the movie that way we wouldn't be disturbed. That was excellent forethought. Despite being a pretty cramped location, I'd happily return. read more

I drive out of my way to go to Alamo Village because of its cozier and more down to earth feel versus other Alamo locations. You'll never have trouble entering the strip center for Alamo Village or have parking challenges like you might have at Mueller. Alamo Village has recently been renovated with the plushie, reclining chairs you love from the other locations, so that's nice! They've also renovated the tables, so the days of sharing a table with the stranger next to you are no more. Every seat has its own moveable table and cup holder. My only disappointment is the number of fees Alamo tacks on. They add a service fee when buying tickets and automatically add 18% gratuity to any tab. I usually tip 20%, and I know that 18% is obviously less than 20%, but something about the forced action feels icky to me? But I suppose folks weren't tipping the staff prior to this mandate? In general, prices seem to have increased here compared to other smaller based cinemas. A popcorn at Alamo will cost you $12.71 in total, versus at Violet Crown or the Bob Bullock it's under $10. A couple bucks is not a total dealbreaker for me, I still catch movies Alamo, but I definitely see movies at other theaters more frequently due to screen size appeals and more affordable prices. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews typically, but I'm absolutely appalled by the new system for ordering food at this establishment. This has nothing to do with the service, the workers, or any of the staff really. My issue is with this new way of ordering food which requires you to HAVE A PHONE OUT in the theatre. Scanning a QR code does not make anything easier for anybody. Mind you, there are a lot of people have ditched modern technology all together in recent months. The whole reason people come to movies is to escape their reality for a brief moment, and this is just not that. On top of that, the prices have become outrageous. We bought a bowl of popcorn and one soda and that was $25. Now I get that the economy is rough, but that is unacceptable. All I'm gonna say is whoever came up with this bogus new system needs to be terminated expeditiously. I don't know if it's due to layoffs or what, but this is just not how a movie theatre should run. Me and all my friends will no longer be returning to Alamo Drafthouse which is extremely unfortunate as I've been a loyal customer for over a decade. I'll make this a short review, because I don't have anything good to say. My family took me here for Father's Day. They had a special menu. What I had was disappointing. I got the fish tacos, and they were heinous. Two fish tacos, no sides not even chips. While the food came quickly, I'm not sure if it was properly cooked. The fish wasn't hot, and the batter wasn't crispy. I don't know if it was pre-cooked or if they didn't cook it enough, but it was just miserable. Then you top that with the fact that the lime sauce was overpowering and they just drowned the tacos. It was kind of gross. I definitely wouldn't recommend the food here any longer. read more

Pressed a button to order a mimosa and because I didn't have it written down he walked away. Pressed the button again after writing it down and setting it on the table and didn't have it propped up on the paper stand (who tf knew there was one there) and got an attitude with a presentation of where it goes. What a joke. Only came here cuz they had an early movie at 10am. Should have waiting the extra hours to go to IPIC like i normally do at the Domain. It's sad to see this Alamo Drafthouse has lost its soul. It has bought in to the movement towards dehumanization in our society. Where once you dealt with actual human beings that had personalities and you interacted with them, now you do it all electronically. You walk in and there's no one to greet you or tell you where things are or what's going on. You're supposed to know to go to your theater, somehow you're supposed to know where that is, find your seat, join the Alamo Wi-Fi site in your settings, look at the menu and make your choices. Somehow figuring out how all that works, then finally your food comes to you, hopefully. My partner had to ask twice by pushing a button to get her drink. The people next to me and several people in the lobby were complaining about the new system. They've removed favorite menu items that were very good and now it's just the usual crud they serve anywhere. There used to be a steak salad that was excellent back in the day. You're supposed to know to push a button and where it is, which you can't see where it is. There's no person to talk about menu options that are different than what is listed. There is no human to interact with. You know, odd things like actually talking to somebody. And then there's these uncomfortable recliner chairs that are cheap. And the food tray table that was about sternum high and unadjustable. There's a little light on all the time under the table that you can't turn off. There's not enough people working to make it nice. It looks like no one cares about the place anymore. The hallway was dirty. There was no one even greeting you as you walk in or paying attention at all. A lot of the employees have been fired recently. The owners obviously don't care about the value of the human touch and contributing to the community by giving humans a job so there are not more and more unemployed people. Like I said, they're taking the humans out of the picture for money. And stealing the soul of a unique well loved Austin icon. I won't ever go back again. Been here a few times recently on some date-myself excursions, and so far, so good! I like that this is the smaller (smallest?) of the Austin-area Drafthouses. Since I'm seeing movies alone, I feel kinda weird walking into a mega-monstrosity of a theater complex. The Village location has a chilled-cinephile vibe, plenty of nostalgic feelings as soon as you walk in. I've had to call and change my day/time just due to traffic, etc., and the staff have been super quick and helpful over the phone. The theater attendants (I think that's the designation?) are quick to introduce themselves once you've found your seat and though they are busy throughout the entire movie, you barely notice them as they move through the aisles. The food is delicious, though I've only tried a couple items so far. Prices seem to be about average for a theater experience with a legit full menu. Plus, I think it's awesome the kitchen creates specialty themed items based on some of the movies. We went to a free showing of the Shallows and it was very clean which is my top priority for a theater honestly and the staff was nice. The marina with the mozzarella sticks was served cold which was odd but the sticks themselves were good and so was the popcorn. It's a small location but I would visit again. read more

Not even sure where to start on this.. by far one of my worst movie experiences I've ever had. I'm a frequent movie goer & typically go to a different Alamo location. I was invited to see a movie with friends at this location so I attended & have never been disrespected more at a business in my life. From the worst customer service, to not receiving my food / drink order , to eventually being physically assaulted by their employee Lance (attached photo) I stepped out of the movie to resolve a food order & was greeted by a tiny manger named Beth. Not only was she incredibly rude but made no attempt to resolve a simple issue. My friends & I were kicked out & on the way out lance decided it was a good idea to come up & physically bump me. We have filed a police report & I will update once I hear back. Side note I was also confronted by another "manager" that evening & he refused to give me his name several times as well. & didn't try to resolve the issues at hand either he told me "he didn't care" & said since he asked us to leave & we hadn't yet that he would call the police & report us for "trespassing" My entire friend group are no longer alamo members & I plan to let as many people I know as possible.
