It's worth the trip down Brookswood to visit Austin Mercantile for a glass of wine or beer, yummy snacks, good company and even a bit of shopping.

The slushies were really good, a little sweet for my personal preference, but so good! The arnold palmer was phenomenal! Spiked lemonade was better than Deschutes, which we had also tried that day. Definetly recommend stopping and taking an hour to soak up some sun and drink a drink!

Well... looks like my review for Boss Rambler is going to be more of an homage than chronicling an…read moreexisting business. As Yelp indicates this business is now permanently closed and we were just here a few weekends ago. We went to several breweries in Bend and this place was the busiest out of the the other breweries we went to and there looked to be no indication that they were closing. But after further investigation there were newspaper articles to indicate that they indeed were. So either we were there on the last weekend or close to the last weekend that they would be open which was unknown to us. We have had their beer a few different times. One of the first beers we had was the Pogadise. What this beer was was a sour. It was okay. Not bad. This fruited sour had pineapple, orange and guava in it. It was pretty good... no the best sour I cam across but not bad. In addition to tasting the fruit I mentioned the beer was tart and sour... just like how one would expect with this beer type. The beers that we probably liked best was the craft beer version of what would make up of a cheap American beer. A lot of breweries make of their own version of this type of thing and we often really enjoy the craft beer versions... which isn't a big surprise. One beer that totally fit this description that we immensely enjoyed (I rated it highly on Untappd) was the Stokes Light. It was an American Lager which has a nice crisp, naturally sweet and malty flavor to it. Living up to it's namesake it is light bodied and is very easy to have more than one. Another beer that also was good was the Stokes Clasica. This was a Mexican Lager... not entirely unlike the the Stokes Light but of course with that Mexican Lager flair going on with it. This beer was crisp, clean and lemony. A touch of metallic even that was inserted there purposely but did not make it unpleasant. Also this beer was light bodied in which having more than one would have been quite easy. Boss Rambler also sold coffee beans and Steve purchased those on two occasions. The coffee was solid and had a good flavor bouquet to it. 2025 has proven that the craft beer apocalypse with an enormous amount of breweries closing has resumed out of 2024 and previous years during the Covid lockdown. Also customer tastes has changed and they don't drink as much beer or alcohol. I expect this to continue and I am going to have to think up a new a new headline on my Yelp account from "craft beer adventurer and wanderer" to hopefully to something I can have just as much enthusiasm for and perhaps with a dash of cleverness as well.
