This name listing is a bit off as this is a Spider City Brewing taproom, that the owners have made double as a wine cellar and tasting room. They cater to supporters of the next door art cinema and offer specials with ticket stubs, so this would be a great spot to come after a film. It was a little confusing at first; doing the Bend Ale Trail I was expecting more of a beer centric taproom but ended up having a great experience here anyone thanks to the bartender and her partner who was sitting at the bar. You can enter here through the main door along the street, or through the alley entrance which is also worth a visit with outdoor cafes and restaurants and closed to traffic. I visited on a weekday afternoon so it otherwise wasn't very lively but had a great discussion about Bend, beer, and the other fun businesses in the area with the couple; thanks to them for the fun conversation and other recommendations. Also, thanks for the sticker swap. Spider City Brewing's main brewery is outside of Downtown and is on my list to visit next time. All beer on tap here is from them with maybe eight different taps. They do smaller pours or full pours; no real flights so I chose all three different small pours of beer styles I love. One was not my favorite due to the hop combination, but the other two were both excellent. Prices were reasonable as well. I was also told they live comedy nights and music in the space, and many customers enjoy picking a bottle of wine and sharing with the table. If any of those things appeal to you, this would be a fun place to visit in an evening. read more

I think it's a bad sign when the bar staff can't even pronounce the name of the wine at a wine bar. Overall we were very unimpressed, especially when you compare this place to Ferm & Fare around the corner. Now that's a wine shop & tasting room! The guy behind the bar was friendly and efficient even though his credit card machine was acting up. This is a nice little place tucked off the main strip, which makes it much more enjoyable to visit. There's usually parking nearby, the staff is friendly, atmosphere cozy, selection excellent, and prices slightly higher than desired (though not unexpected for being in downtown Bend.) My friend and I were lucky enough to stay across from The Wine Shop recently and were lured in by the cozy lighting and beautiful wall of wines. We had a wonderful time speaking with the owner about local wines and producers, the terroir, and our travels. The wine selection was great and the bites were equally delicious. I don't do reviews but needed to document the horrific experience here last night. The "bartender" which is in quotes as this guy (not sure of his name, but he had light brown hair) shouldn't be in customer service ANYWHERE! As he was pouring our $11 dollar glasses of wine he casually mentioned he opened one of the bottles he was pouring our wine from 2 days ago...not cool. Then when one person in our party mentions that it wasn't good this guy got loud and super aggressive with our party and brought the full bottle over and slammed it on our table and was still acting like an aggressive jerk...who does this?!?! We go out all the time and I have never experienced anything like this EVER!! Never going back here and making sure no one we know does either. Was a horrible experience. I give this review only for the "to go" beer selection. I get that it is a wine bar and that they have lots of wine and probably do really good with the wine thing. However, I don't drink wine. I drink only beer. I was stoked to see a sign claiming "beer to go" on my way back from Deschutes Brewery. Unfortunately, once inside the "to go" beer selection is SUPER small. One small cooler only and most were imports that I don't have the palate or wallet to go for. I went for some of the staple beers available, Stone Brewing, without asking how much it costs. $4 per 12oz beer! I get it if you are serving draft beers and I am paying to rent a stool for awhile but I am giving you money and walking out with these beers. That is $24 a 6 pack! When I spoke with the bartender about the prices she responded with "this is a bar not a grocery store." Why do you advertise beer to go then? Don't want to harsh on this place because it looks like a great place to drink a glass of wine or taste one of their many (10?) draft taps, but I was seriously disappointed with what I found in their cooler. I was dragged into this establishment with a Belgian ale fan who gravitated toward the small Chimay sign hung over the alley door like a moth to a flame. So I entered with beer on the brain, not wine. Looking across the tap heads and down the beer menu, I was as delighted to discover Rodenbach Flemish Sour Ale on draught as my friend was to see the Chimay tap was white-label (rare to find on tap, he says). They were $9 beers, not cheap even for Bend, but it was kind of expected, given the quality of these brews, and the fact that your average beer-guzzling palate probably heads down the street to Deschutes (boring!) leading to lowered keg turnover. We struck up a conversation with the barkeep (Cindy, who is the owner it turns out) about the selection, later moving onto a discussion of the wine selection, which we took a look at on our way out - huge! She stocks wines from all over the world and the West Coast. Cindy was interested in what we had to say about California wines (our home stomping grounds) and took some notes. Which I thought was cool, as I like to see business owners being highly receptive to customer feedback. The place was quiet and nearly deserted during my visit, late afternoon on a Saturday, which was good because I was there to talk with a friend and didn't want to shout. I can't comment on what the atmosphere is usually like when there are more patrons, but it doesn't feel like a place that ever gets too loud. The bottom line here is that the wares are costly but the selection is great and the staff is friendly and helpful. read more

We visited Bend recently and were tired of the beer scene, so dropped into this establishment for some wine. The selection is great. They have a lot of wine by the glass and the prices for glass pours are reasonable. Their retail markup is probably about 20% higher than many places I shop at around Portland, but still reasonable for the location in downtown Bend. They also have a $10 corkage for any bottle you purchase in their shop. They have a great list of beer on tap as well. Especially nice they had some Belgian stuff like Rodenbach and Chimay. read more

This wine shop was participating in the Little Woody Barrel Age Brew Festival. They ran out of the beer purchased by the festival early in the evening. My husband and I really enjoy the mellow environment there. Very lay back and you can just come in and sip a glass a wine a talk to people as they walk in. The owner really knows her wines and they are very generous in letting you try things. They have some olives and cheese appetizers which are a good value. My friend and I were visiting from Seattle and wanted to go wine tasting while in Bend. We loved this little spot. Really great ambiance and great service. We both had one of the wine flights, which we thought was a great feature ($16 for a glass of 3 different wines). We watched the Olympics and enjoyed rooting for team USA with the bartender and others in the bar. It was so great that they were open until 11 (and actually didn't rush anyone to finish when the time went well past 11pm. This place was more casual than wine tasting bars tend to be, which was refreshing. It was not stuffy or hoity toity at all and was really relaxing! They also had a selection of imported beers for the non-wine drinkers. I found myself wishing there were more places like this in Seattle! read more

The store featured an excellent variety of wines and beer from around the world. They were flexible in allowing us to customize our own flights from this huge assortment. Had the pleasure of visiting this place. I used to own a wine bar myself and I enjoy stopping into other places to see how they operate and check out the selections. I must say I was truly amazed with the Wine Shop and Tasting Bar. Some great wine selections. I let the staff recommend a couple of 2oz tastings and was pleased with both the questions they asked to get a feel for my tastes as well as the selections chosen. While I was tempted to try more tastes, I couldn't refrain from trying some of the craft beers along with the hard salami and cheese (nice french blue, Purple Haze and manchego). Biggest problem is that I don't live anywhere near Bend and don't expect to get out that way as often as I'd like to given the great atmosphere, drink and tastings. But will definitely recommend to family and friends who may be heading out west. read more
