I had a great experience at Autonomy! The man on the phone was super kind in helping me out with scheduling my appointment and even called me back when there was a cancellation. I was able to get in the next day with an artist named John. The studio was super clean and welcoming and I did not feel uncomfortable at all. Everyone was very nice, friendly, and helpful. I recently went to get my belly button pierced and Autonomy was a great place to go! It was a very clean and sterile environment. My piercer was very well informed and made me feel very comfortable! He made sure that I understood how the piercing process would work and walked me through how he would do it! They also sold very high quality jewelry that was made in America. I paid just under $100 for the jewelry and the piercing itself, which seemed rather high, but I feel it was worth every penny! I highly recommend this place for both piercing and tattoo! I will be going elsewhere for my tattoo, i called about a consult and was told to stop any time hours are 12 to 9 m-sat came in no one around to do a consult, no big deal, called agin and was told sat around 5 would work. Had a consult and set a time, was told 48 hours to cancel. I slept on my consult and relized I was not comfortable with the artist. So I called on Monday at 230 to cancel. At this point they tell me the deposit of $50 is nonrefundable period. I was not comfortable because the artist didn't listen to what I wanted on my tattoo. Although I understand artists need some arstic licence, this is a permanent tattoo that I have to like and live with, not them. I am a hairstylist what I belive is best on my client is not always what they want, they have to live with it not me and so their opinion matters more than mine. I would rate it 0 stars if I could. My husband says it was probably the best $50 he ever spent on nothing, as I would have probably ended up hating the tattoo no matter how good it looked. read more

I had a tattoo done by Travis Olson last July , 2016. It was a logo of my favorite band on the inside of my left ankle. It contained a fair amount of red ink. It turned out to be a mess as I reacted to the ink , the tattoo became raised, and itchy, and reddened all around the area. 9 months and many steroid injections later I am still having problems. I did go back to the shop some time after and spoke with someone there, he told me to go to dermatology which I did. I now have an open wound and it looks like one gigantic scab! I am having it surgically removed next week , the surgeons said thats the only thing that can be done. I feel like Autonomy should warn customers that although it's rare, red ink can cause this horrible reaction! read more

Brian Grover is one of the best tattoo artists in Minnesota by far. His detail work is incredible, and he is an amazingly talented person. He is incredibly knowledgeable and his shop is very clean and modern. The only bad thing I would say is that he is so busy and in high demand, that it's difficult to get an appointment with him, and that he is very limited on free time, which can make a consultation difficult. read more

My husband & I both had Travis as our tattooist which he did a good job on the ink, but came off being sextist towards women, because he would chat it up with my husband but when I would say something he would blow me off/not acknowledge anything I said. I went to this parlor for my fifth tattoo because I had seen and heard so many great things about them. When I got there, the shop looked great, but when it came time for me to get my tattoo, which was small and behind my ear, it was a quick process. I checked the finish product and asked the artist to expand on a line because I felt like it wasn't long enough and instead of him just doing it. He looked at me like I was an idiot and told me that 'my head was turned in the picture and if he did, it would mess up the tattoo.' I told him to do it anyways, explaining to him that the original image was supposed to reach the outer edges and he did it. Though he didn't seem very happy about it. This already made me not want to give him a tip. When he finished the addition, he almost didn't put another layer of jelly on my tattoo to keep it from drying out before pushing me out the door and charging an additional $80 on top of the $50 down payment needed to hold an appointment. So I paid $130 for a tattoo that was worth $50 at the most. When I called back the following day, I was told that the same artist would have to do my touch up despite me telling the receptionist that I was treated like I was only wasting his time. I will never return there. I would rather pay another $50 for a different artist to touch up the piece than have the same artist. Worst tattooing experience of my life thus far. read more

First off be expected to pay $50 up front. I brought my design in a week before my appointment. I had a 12 pm appointment and my tattoo artist didn't have any thing drawn up and kept me waiting an hour. Then when he showed me his drawing it looked nothing like the design I brought in. The artist would not work with me and position the tattoo how I wanted. I ended up walking out. I will never go back there. I am out $50 too. Very disappointed with how I was treated. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I would consider myself a fairly tattooed person with a good 30+ hours of tattoos on me. Some I love, some not as much, but this takes disliking a tattoo and the experience to a whole new level. I saw the good reviews and had heard good things so when I wanted to get a tribute tattoo on my other hand I wanted the guys at Autonomy to do it! Because I live a good distance away I talked on the phone about what I was looking for and emailed some references and was set up for an appointment with Sam. I went in for my appointment and showed Sam a number of references and told him I wanted this tattoo to look as realistic as possible (which I had also mentioned in the email). So after a good hour of waiting, Sam showed me the sketch which of course was just outlines and no shading as they all are. After making a little change he told me he had to go have a cigarette and would be right with me. Not ideal since I've already been waiting a while, but oh well. I went up and got the stensil put on, positioning and outline looked great. I knew not to worry much about the shading since they put that in as they go. Sam said while it dries he's going to go eat... 15 minutes later he came back, again not Ideal. Before he started I reiterated that the more realistic the tattoo looks, the better. While tattooing, he made no efforts to have a conversation or even ask me what this tattoo was about, why I was getting the clock set to the time I was or the reason for the initials in the tattoo. When he was done he left again for another 15 minutes, came back and bandaged me up. I asked, if touchups were needed, are they complimentary, I was told if need be, yes. After getting home and taking the bandage off, my heart sank when I saw all the flaws in this tattoo, the biggest one being that there was nothing realistic about the tattoo at all!!!! The hands were in the wrong position, the lines didn't even meet up and there was minimal shading!! A few days went by to see if I would just get used to the mistakes. To me they are so big that they could not be overlooked so I emailed to discuss the possibility of getting it fixed. A week went by and I heard nothing so I sent another one. Another week went by so I sent another one, this time asking for a partial refund (I said they can keep the deposit and the tip for their time) if they weren't going to get back to me or fix it. A few more days went by with no response so I called. I was told to send pictures of the errors and I would get a call right back. Another week later with no word, so I called again. I was told that Sam was spoken to (why I didn't get a call about it I don't know) and that the tattoo was based on the reference I gave him. This response was very strange since I would NEVER give an artist a reference/references of a bad design with messed up lines and unrealistic/flat shading, why would I want that? Furthermore, if the reference was messed up, wouldn't the artist recommend fixing the problems instead of just rolling with it? They never offered to fix the tattoo for me and when the partial refund was brought up I was told "it's simply not going to happen". From start to finish I did not feel cared for in any way. They didn't seem to care about me, or this important tattoo, just about my money. I work in the service industry so I know and understand that mistakes happen and that it is how you deal with the mistakes that count. Their lack of understanding or willingness to take any responsibility or even do ANYTHING to fix what they did is absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. I feel, like most other people, that when I pay for a service of any kind, that I should be taken care of. Now instead of looking down at my hand and seeing a great tribute tattoo to 3 very important people in my life, I look down and see a tattoo that was obviously done with no care. I am so sad and disappointed that now my only options are a cover up or removal. read more

I have gotten several tattoos from Autonomy. I keep going back because of their consistent and amazing work. I don't ask for anything all that complicated. Just small hour and a half tattoos. I am not covered by any means either (but why should that matter). I am giving this place two stars because of this reason: from the moment I step foot in the door I feel unwelcome. The shorter dark haired man who is behind the counter throws me a waiver, tells me to sit, yells at me for him not finding the email that I had sent two times already and then I can hear him mutter to another about how the tattoo I am choosing to get is "retarded". And how he speaks to people on the phone is absurd. Are you getting people in your doors with that behavior? Autonomy, you need to hire someone with better people skills. Someone to represent your shop for all the good it is. By the time I get to my artist I am irritated and am not as excited I was when I left my house. I can only hope this can be brought to your attention and action is taken. I am never in a hurry to get my next tattoo. But I just may end up having to look elsewhere due to this.
