We moved to Avalon about 9 months ago, our first apartment was a beautiful loft which we loved, however the need for a second bathroom was needed for a new marriage. The staff at Avalon made it easy to change apartments and our move in was seamless. We are so happy here and our little "fur baby" loves the accommodations just as much. I have lived here going on 7 years and I'm extremely satisfied with Avalon in Bloomingdale. The Building maintenance crew, Steve and Ron, do their job well. They are quick to respond to repair work orders and keep the property safe and clean in Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

If you want to live where people are constantly watching you and taking pictures of you walking my dog !i live in building 6 and there is never parking at night I have to park in visitor parking and walk up 3 flights of stairs and then to top it off rent was 15 days late this month they charge 395 in fees and I have to go to court !!!! We have lived in the Avalon Bloomingdale for almost 3 years and absolutely love our apartment! The grounds are kept beautifully and clean. They are conveniently located close to the major highways in the area. Avalon Bloomingdale apartments have plenty of storage, lots of natural light, and there is always plenty of parking. Everyone in this community is extremely friendly and kind. By far my favorite part of living in this Avalon is the amazing staff. Meghan, the community supervisor, is extremely kind and helpful. The maintenance staff truly exceed our expectations - Steve, John, and Wesley work quickly and effectively to address any maintenance needs (whether in the apartment or around the grounds). read more

My husband an I have lived here for a year now. It's not our first apartment rental, but it's the best by far. I have lived at other so called "luxury" apartments in New Jersey before. Let me tell you, Avalon Bloomingdale truly lives up to the "luxury" standard. The front office staff, namely Anjanette and Meghan are so helpful with everything from dry clean arrangement to signing for packages. They always have my packages ready as I walk in the door. It's incredible. When needed, they offer to drop them off at my door as well. I never need to worry about missing a delivery or going to the post office to pick up packages anymore. I think this is a perk I can't live without! Maintenance has fast turnaround as well. Things are usually fixed within the same day of a request, which is very rare for any community. The facility is wonderful. They have a really nice pool, a sizable gym, and nicely decorated lounge. People are always pleasant and helpful. Just moved out after 2 years. I have to say it's apartment living at a slightly higher than average price for the area. Here is my list of good and bad things. Good-Office staff supper nice and friendly Bad- they are limited in their ability to enforce any of the "rules" in the lease agreement. For example they have quite hours. After you complain about the person above you having their monthly friends over playing games and getting fall down drunk and keeping you up till 2 am they will tell you to go talk to them on your third complaint. Good-Maintenance response is excellent. Good-Nice gym and nice location. Bad- amenity fee for use of the gym and pool. Oh and if they shorten the pool hours like they did this year your fee is still the same. Bad- they get you in at a lower price and then jack the rent by 10% for your second year. The good to that is it only goes up so much more after that. Bad- for us to renew for our third year they wanted to jack the rent up another $100 but after several conversations and saying we were going to move due to the increase they said oh the market changed and you can keep the same rent. Yet I could move all my stuff to the building behind us and pay $250 less per month for the exact same apartment and layout. Good- they allow pets Bad- at additional cost and like everything else some people suck and they don't pick up after their pet making us law abiding people look bad. Bad- parking is an issue. They have visitor spots but tenants park in them because there are not enough spots for the amount of people with cars. Bad- they are a big company that only cares about the dollar. The staff tries but again their hands are tied and they really can't do much which makes the "rules" useless. Bad- hot water. Takes about 3+ gallons of running the water before you get hot water. It's an on demand system which any smart person installs an insta hot tank under the sink if you set up an on demand system. Good/bad- it's an apartment so some people are nice and respectful others have no consideration for anyone or anything other than them selfs. Good- the place is insulated nicely. At least ours was. It held the heat and A/C fine. Tips- pay for only one parking sticker than park any other car you have in a visitors spot. They never check or keep track of those cars. I counted more than 10 cars that either never had a sticker or parked in visitors spots all the time to avoid paying for parking. Plan to live here for only 1 year. After that move to another building and you can keep your rent down. If you wash any dishes by hand plan do it after someone has showered so the water is already hot. read more

I have lived in one of the larger units for almost two and a half years. I moved in when it was new and had never lived in an apartment before. The quality of the cabinets, countertops, and carpeting is poor. The unit gets great light and has excellent closet space. When there is a concern the maintainence staff fixes it quickly. The complex is generally clean and it is very convenient to major highways. I have many warnings to those considering renting here. My rent has gone up over four hundred dollars a month since I started renting here two years ago. My last increase was over 300 dollars a month. The rate of a similar apartment quickly went down 200 dollars a month after I signed my lease, so I am now paying well above what new tennants are coming in at. I also take issue that they call it a smoke free complex when smoking is rampant within the community and they do nothing to enforce the policy. Also, there are too many dogs for far too little lawn space. Take note of how badly the lawn is burned in areas where dog's urine has killed the grass. For a $500 up front fee and $50 dollars a month there should be a place that dogs can go away from the buildings. There are also countless people who have more than one dog in their apartments which adds to the patches of dead grass. I'm fairly certain you are only supposed to have one pet. Finally, good luck getting the front office to do anything to advocate for your quality of life. When I first moved in they called me regularly because my dog barked, but a few weeks ago when a complete stranger attempted to enter my apartment at 3 am they were less than helpful....I am counting my days until I can leave this overpriced jail. My employer is a "preferred employer" for Avalon. I have already been to my HR department to ensure no one else gets fooled into living in this pet friendly and smoke free hell hole. read more

Just an update for those thinking of leasing at Avalon Bloomingdale: we placed our first maintenance request on line ( none emergency dishwasher issue) the afternoon of 12/7. As I was leaving for work @ 730 on 12/8, John--the maintenance supervisor walked up and asked "what's up with the dishwasher?" By about 9:30 a replacement was already installed. The attention he and his team give to the Avalon guests is exemplary. And their website portal for managing your account and submitting maintenance requests works quite well. Although we are happy to be retiring out of Nj and back to our home in Savannah, I can honestly say that our stay here has been quite good. Thanks to Angie and her from office team as well. my sister and i almost drowned in their pool as the lifeguard was asleep and high. our dad had to jump in to save us and lost his phone and money. was also a prison as my mom was taken to court three times for week late rent. would not live here again. read more

I'm very disappointed with how this "respectable" community acts towards their low income housing residents. They are discriminating against us for being poor. Today, the mulch in our garden in front of our apartment was thrown all over. We went to complain and they blamed it on the weather or landscapers. However, our apartment was the only one with mulch thrown everywhere on the sidewalk. I swept it up and noticed that our stones in the garden were moved on to our porch, proving someone was messing with the garden. That's the least of our problems, too. They have added an extra thousand dollars to our rent, even though we are on low income. They blocked us from paying online, and when we went to the front desk to try and pay, the lady working, AnneJanette, wouldn't even talk to us and couldn't answer any of our questions; added more legal fees to our rent even though we attempted to pay that day. At first they tried illegally evicting us by sliding letters under our door telling us to vacate, with no notice to quit, no police officer served us, they do everything illegally and get away with it. We tried to go to court and when they called their lawyer, their lawyer lied and said we didn't pay May since we pay using prepaid cards, and can't track which months we paid. Especially since they blocked us from online, including blocking us from viewing our lease. I do not understand how any of that is legal, so it proves their legal department is dedicated to taking your money and have ways to do it where you cannot do anything about it. We will be doing everything we can about it. This is outrageous and we will not stand to be treated this way. I believe they are trying to kick us out without telling low income housing so they can move someone else in who can pay what they want, and double dip; getting 70% from low income house, and the full rent from the sucker that moves in. It's incredible that the court system didn't realize this. We have not given up yet. read more

Only rent here if you will stay only 1 year!! WARNING!!! DO NOT RENT HERE IF YOU ARE GOING TO STAY MORE THAN 1-year LEASE TERM. Avalon apartments are owned by Caldwell Bank and they run their apartments like any banker would... The apartments are all built using the cheapest possible materials and then Avalon charges the highest possible rent allowed by law... Since it is owned by bankers they are interested in one thing only MONEY MONEY MONEY... they do not care about morals, ethics, or humanity. I have lived here for approx. 2 years and am writing this review because I am disgusted by the rent increases. I've paid my rent on time in full every month for the past 22 months. Last year at renewal they increased our rent by 4% every month. This year they tried increasing it by 5% every month. When I argued with office that they were trying to raise my 1BR loft apartment to $2,284 when they are listing the same apartment currently vacant for $2,195 they advised me that is only for new tenants coming in. When I asked why they are raising my rent by soooo much again and does that mean they want us to leave? The response was "Oh no... we are raising it because we can by law". I explained just because you can by law does not mean you should as their rents are already above market for this area. Their response again was they can so they will. Typical BANKER response.. move here only if you would like to live in an apartment complex made by bankers to make as much money as possible for bankers. read more

Love living here at Avalon Bloomingdale. The apartment is lovely and the private balcony is an added feature we especially enjoy. Maintenance is so accomodating and right there whatever the need, and office personnel are so nice and yet are on top of keeping everyone on top of following the regulations on the premices. It is quiet here and the surrounding mountains offer a great view. Couldnt be happier! read more

My rent was raised by 20% and they are offering the same layout one floor above for $293 less a month. If you need a place for one year it's clean safe and dog friendly. I have had two major maintenance issues that took more then a week to fix. Staff is friendly but seem powerless in most situations blaming contractors for delays. I can't recommend this apartment complex to anyone for more then a year. I feel like I am a money bag and not a person talking to the staff about how high of an increase this is.
