Living in Upstate NY we wouldn't be able to get down there until the weekend. No problem, they held it for us until we drove down this past Saturday. When we got to the shop, it even had a slip of paper with her name on it so it wouldn't accidentally be sold. It was the last of that size and brand. And since it's now after Labor Day, I'm guessing they won't restock until next season. I don't know the guy's name behind the counter, but he did mention he's been surfing the Jersey shore over 50 years. He was amazing. He was the benchmark for awesome customer service. He set up her board with the fins and leash. Gave her a tip about securing the leash when putting the board away. He gave her all kinds of other advice and easily answered every question she threw at him. Now, to put this in perspective, we had been to a shop in Rhode Island and the guy behind the counter was trying to sell her a more advanced board that she didn't want. I told her not to get it. Get the one you want, develop your muscle memory, then get a hard board later down the road. And when I told this to the guy at Ocean Outfitters, he said "Yes! That's what we tell the people that come here for lessons." All in all a very cool experience. I would definitely be back. Will definitely check here first for any other surfing needs.

There was an expiration date on the GC. Went into the business to ask for an extension so I can use the GC next summer and they said no. After explaining it is illegal to have an expiration on a GC the employees looked it up on the computer and found that we were correct. Harbor outfitters still refused to extend the GC knowing that what they did was illegal! I usually will visit this place several times during summer but I will not go there anymore. They have no problem with stealing money !

This joke of a "business" rented us a golf cart for a week and we asked Tricia, the owner, which was the best. The maroon cart. So we took it on our way. When returning the cart after the week of use as directed, it completely died and shut down on a main road at an intersection. It did not give any warning and there was no ability to coast to a halt off to the side because there is no neutral. We couldn't move it out of the road. They didn't show us a neutral switch (if there was one). We called the business and they sent for a tow truck. The cart was finally towed after a long delay, all the while the police were there to redirect traffic on a Saturday morning beach weekend. Nothing was said or done at that time, the police didn't mention anything was amiss since it wasn't our vehicle. No licenses or insurances were taken at the scene. Fast forward to about a week later and THE POLICE called to tell us we had a CRIMINAL CHARGE for OBSTRUCTING A HIGHWAY. This sad excuse of a "business" gave our drivers' license info and probably was told what was happening. Instead of working with the police about THEIR vehicle breaking down, they gave a WEAK response! (attached is the actual email) When we contacted Tricia to have them work on this for us, they flat out REFUSED and Tricia said "Since the citation is in your name, there's nothing I can do about it except standby." All future email requests have been IGNORED. We were able to get the charge significantly reduced to a basic moving violation once it was explained to the judge, but there's still a $100 ticket and huge amount of time wasted. Still no response to cover our ticket or time spent to resolve this issue. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS JOKE OF A SHOP.

never rent a golf cart from this company. this is a followup from post last year - complete cart…read morepower failure causing the brakes to lock in the middle of an intersection. left cart after many people tried to help move it- went to store (owner says police saw me leave, but there were no police around) to insure tow truck was called- had to appear in court and plead down to a $100 fine from an obstruction of highway summons (criminal offense), no offer to help or reimburse. cart was losing power all week, could barely make it to avalon from stone harbor- dropped to 15 mph max from 25 although fully charged batteries. asked owner to send me the repair bill to confirm battery failure- no response of course. it is renter beware- so i am giving you a heads up- don't ever do business with this company - should be a no star rating

Celeste is incredibly patient, encouraging, and always makes the lessons fun and engaging with songs and games. She gave the kids choices, built their confidence, and skillfully guided them to the next level with each session. The children absolutely adored her and looked forward to their time in the pool! Celeste was also wonderfully communicative with us as adults, keeping us informed, offering tips, and being flexible with scheduling to accommodate our needs. Mid to late March 2020…read more They're filming an episode of Walking Dead on the beach town/ Island of Avalon NJ. **Scratch!!!** Not really. It just feels like it. For someone who enjoys my own company I'm starting to feel the weight of social distancing. As I write this I'm nine days in. I don't get it, I prefer talking with folks via this gadget in my hand. So why on this Island does often being the only one for miles around feel this lonely? A bit scary? 'rona I hate you. The first day I walked the streets I saw NO ONE. NOW, the one or two folks who sometimes pass me jogging as I walk is a refreshing change of pace and I act extremely friendly. I say act because although I'm all giddy with happiness at seeing other people, I'm hesitant to get too close so it's always a six feet quick hi and bye. The people here are friendly though. Sometimes, well maybe once I forgot where I was. I forgot about the pandemic threatening the world and I felt as if I was in a village in Tobago (Trinidad and) and what a peace that came over me. I'm not a beach lover and I haven't actually touched Avalon's sand as yet. I've been on the bay side but I haven't walked the beach. I do enjoy my morning strolls on the boardwalk though. I like it here and maybe I'll come back in the summer. Wait! Will I leave here before that? Thanks Avalon, so far you've been kind to me. I apprecilike you. The End.
